The Avengers

Sometime in the 23rd century...
The survivors of war, overpopulation, and pollution are living in a great domed city, sealed away from the forgotten world outside.
Here, in an ecologically balanced world, mankind only lives for pleasure, freed by the servo-mechanisms which provide everything.

There's just one catch:
Life must end at thirty unless reborn in the fiery ritual of carrousel.

So many things had changed in the year 2381. Humans no longer live in neighborhoods, cities like they once had. World War IV prevented that from happening again.. or so people believed. So many people died in the war, whether it was serving their country or just being an innocent bystander. The human race ended up wiping themselves out in that last and final World War and everything was thought to be lost with it. But.. as most giant disasters, there was hope. There were still plenty of survivors that had gathered together in attempt to reform civilization somewhere in America. They used whatever knowledge and resources that they had left and were able to make a haven for themselves. They gave no name to this place, though many people called it Utopia. It was an enclosed dome that could control its temperature enough to please people. Under this dome, the survivors felt at home and everything was at peace. Things began to return to normal for once.

Now it's the year 2274. Things aren't like they used to be. We gained more understanding of technology over the years and everything changed with it. The dome was refurnished and added onto over the years until its current state. Instead of having a governing figure, we now have a supercomputer that regulates everything. The supercomputer takes care of everything that humans previously worried about, including birthrate. We're able to have whatever we could want and not have to worry about anything now that we have the computer easily supplying us with food, water, shelter, and people to love. You can even get your face and/or body changed to something completely different if you grow bored of your old one. If you ask anybody around, they'd say that life there is perfect.

But it isn't. Everybody is given an expiration date underneath our dome. One thing that the supercomputer does not want to worry about is overpopulation and crowding, so it supplies us with a diamond-looking button in the palm of our left hands. These are our lifeclocks. As it gets closer and closer to the time of our.. removal, it turns red. The supercomputer does not want anybody older than 30 years of age to be inside of its dome to prevent overpopulation, so it automatically removes every single person that turns 30 years old on a daily basis. Upon the day of our required departure, it blinks red. If anybody sees you with a blinking, red lifeclock, then they are able to report it immediately to the local police, also known as Sandmen.

Departures take place at the giant, circular construction near the center of the dome. It's the place that we call the Carrousel. Everyday, lots of people gather inside of the Carrousel to watch the latest batch of 30 year olds be lifted into the air and killed off, one by one, in a giant explosion of colorful sparks. Each of these people are covered in white and wear white masks with black, tribal markings on them so that the crowd is not able to be identify them. Going to the Carrousel is a big, exciting event that many people enjoy.

Sandmen are the police workforce of Utopia. The supercomputer is the only one able to assign new Sandmen, which usually occurs right at birth. They wear different, black sweaters with a thick gray stripe that winds around their chest and a thick belt around their waist to differentiate themselves away from the normal crowd. They carry three main objects; one is a talking device that they use to communicate with the Sandmen base, a radar that signifies where Runners may be, and a gun that kills instantly with a singly hit. They don't interfere with the public unless they spot a Runner. Though they may seem cold and heartless, some Sandmen actually have a heart and may, every blue moon, let a Runner go. This is a rare occurrence underneath Utopia's dome, but it occurs occasionally. Sandmen generally get harassed around by the supercomputer, which has the ability to take back years off of their lifeclock if need be. Until now, it hasn't known of Sanctuary's existence. Now that it knows that people are trying to escape Utopia and get away from their fate, it is taking life off of particular Sandmen's lifeclocks. They are forced to be a Runner and find Sanctuary and people are able to hunt them like an animal if they get caught. Doesn't matter if you're a Sandman or not, if your lifeclock is blinking, you're dead meat. Unless you succeed in running.

Runners are the 30 year olds that try to escape their 'rebirth' in the Carrousel and attempt to find the place outside of the dome named Sanctuary. They have to hide their flashing red lifeclock and avoid any attention from others, which is hard when you have lots of people around you. However, there are more Runners than people think. They appear to be normal people and many of them just life among others. They keep away from any and all attention. They find other Runners and join up, planning to escape Utopia together rather than alone.

That's our goal.

Find Sanctuary and escape Utopia.
