What is this and why would I join?

Do you write little nifty stories in your journal? Like posting some of your own work for others to see? Maybe even the occasional song? Well than this is the place for you! We're a group of writers, creative and yearning to talk to others of our kind.

Rules:
Rules may or may not be edited as I see fit ^^
1. Please include a link to your GPX profile upon requesting to join.
2. In order to be accepted, you must have some sort of content in your journal aside from goals, clicking policies, etc.
3. Another thing I ask is that you update your journal frequently. Now, I'm not asking you update it everyday. But, you know, at least once a week. To keep things fresh
4. Please do not put a banner in your signature until you are accepted.
5. Feel free to advertise this group in your journal as well!
6. Please use a legible color in your journal. GPX is on a gray background, so colors like yellow, aqua, etc., are difficult to read. However, any other amount of coding is okay!
7. If you fail to comply with these rules, you can and will be kicked out. If you fail to comply with rule 2 or 3 after we have accepted you, expect to be moved to the Inactive Users list.

And a note: You dont have to have these massive journal stories that take up your whole journal. Mind you, you can if you wish, but don't feel obligated to do so. We understand that you have other things you like to put in there =3

I also update story infomation about them on their individual pages, but I'm not sure if that counts.

Qualifications: A random story every update that follows the viewer interacting with Rune and her PKMN at the Nevaha Temple Center! Also, I have many detailed descriptions for nearly each of my PKMN.

What you post in your journal that qualifies you for this group: Well, its a journal story thats reasonable quality about a Espeon and a Umbreon that were abandoned by their trainer and they have adventures, i update it every 3 days (unless the third day is a Sunday, in which case i make it a 'normal' journal) I update the dressup and description for (important) characters in the story when something happens to them.

I have the entry for tomorrow basically done and it'll be uploaded when the reset occurs.

What you post in your journal that qualifies you for this group: I post either a barrage of quotes or interesting facts every five days or so. Most of the quotes express my own views, and I've had a few people message me and tell me about how my quotes made them feel better. Every time I post new facts someone comments about it. I'm not sure if this counts as blogging, but I do like this group. : )

What you post in your journal that qualifies you for this group: Most of my journal is taken up by a dialogue similar to Irk's and several other people's journals, except it's pretty much just between myself and the actual Doctor Octopus, Otto Octavius. (I make him stick around with liberal amounts of Oreos. Betcha didn't know that Oreos are his favorite cookie.)
Although I did just start a little mini-plot thing because of the random plot bunny that attacked my brain... now that I've hatched myself a Peter Parker (shiny male Spinarak FTW), I decided to expand my journal a bit. For now it's just Peter that's allowed to write in it, but I think JJJ (my Exploud) will probably somehow get his hands on it at some point.

Plus there's usually a smaller message in red up at the top saying where I am and/or what I'm doing.

And heck, that contest sounds awesome! I'm always up for some inspiration. Sometimes I just end up staring at the screen with a vague idea of what I want to write but no clue how to get it from my brain to the screen...

Yes. Those plot bunnies seem to enjoy popping out at random places and times and attacking me. Not unlike that Dread Bunny of Caerbannog, actually...

hur hur I'm glad you got a laugh out of Octogonapus. I wrote his description a while back... ought to pull him out one of these times so I can give him the needed sunglasses.

And I can make userbars, if you want. I'm not so sure about the banners though... I tend to be very picky when it comes to how something looks, and if it isn't quite right, then I end up tearing my hair out until it does look right. Plus I haven't ever done a banner before...
But userbars are something I can do. I'll keep an eye out for the new name so I can whip a few up.

Updated my journal with moar intrigue, whooooo -ghostly type noises-

I decided to bring a few other 'characters' in... 'characters' in quotes because they're technically extensions of an already existing character. They are Mo, Flo, Harry, and Larry, also known as Otto Octavius's actuators... or tentacles. Keep in mind that this is from the movie version of Ock. None of the other five or so versions of him have sentient arms with artificial intelligence, you know. This is much more interesting.
Mo = upper left.
Flo = upper right.
Harry = lower left.
Larry = lower right.
Mo and Flo are the 'leaders', with Flo being 'leader' most of the time. As opposed to the other three's male personalities, Flo actually has a female sort of personality... but she doesn't really act like one. Flo was the one that did most of the persuading for Otto to rebuild his fusion reactor... with a little encouragement from Mo. Harry tends to be a bit sarcastic, but generally nice enough (for a machine anyway). Larry though... Larry's a little slow on the uptake sometimes, but that's because he was the one that got electrocuted. Twice. So... he's kind of quirky.

Hur hur yeah. Bringing the actuators into this sounded like a fun idea to do, so I did it.

Storm and I came to a realization last night - we have ZERO ideas for a new name for this group. Neither of us is crazy about the name Blogring, we just took it from the old owner, but we don't know what else to call it, either. It's gotta be something catchy! Something snappy! But with my titling skills, it'd end up as "The GPX Story Journal Group" or something else equally dumb. Do not trust me with this job. So! Does anyone have any suggestions? Tips? Anything at all? I'm not considering this a contest or anything, just shoot out ideas and if we take yours then you get a virtual cookie and credit in the initial post, but we need a new name so that we can actually start making graphics. We're desperate. XD

And no, I'm not getting Storm's permission for this, but I'm co-owner so BLEH. She can disagree and then punch me if she so desires.

Lame joking aside, Irken has a point. We have absolutely no ideas for the name. So yes, feel free to post thou ideas! Trust me, even the slightest bit of info helps. Example: I got a deoxys from the shelter back in october, and I had no idea what to do with it, so I go to irk and say "Hey, what do I do with it?" and her response was "Never give it up!", which made me go "...one Rick Astley themed space virus coming right up!"

Awesomesauce, welcome to the group, Mousekiro! I dont have any chocolate, but I do have some sort of almond... not sure how old they are though. I think they've got some sort of mold growing on them. But that gives them flavor, right? 8D

Dark, Irk, you have no idea how much your posts made me laugh. First for that "YOU MUST DIE" part (my friends and I go crazy at school with the internet memes) and then the Astley and 'cake is a lie' Deoxyses... es es es. I have no clue what you'd make the plural of 'Deoxys' be.
Maybe I should redo my Deoxys as something witty and meme-related now... but then again, I do have Dr. Octogonapus, so... yeah.

As for a new group name... uhm... -scours brain desperately for ideas- The Writer's Collective? -feels an edge of Borg-like 'resistance is futile' creeping in to it- Eh, maybe not... but that's all I've got for now. Maybe some Oreos will start the creative juices flowing again.

EDIT: Oh yes, and I am looking for a good nickname/description for my new female Easter Buneary. I'm coming up empty on this.

I like the word Society and would like to include it in the title. I don't know why, it's just so... OFFICIAL. XD Now we need a good word to stick in front of it. Maybe we can come up with some sort of cheesy pun or rhyming phrase? Cheesy titles are fun. XD I just wish I was cleverer and could come up with something myself...

Hm, "Society" does sound like a good word to use... although I do have to admit, "Syndicate" has been bouncing around my head lately (mostly because of my shiny hunt for the Sinister Six)... perhaps if I could find a synonym for 'authors' or 'writers' that starts with an s something could work out... -steeples fingers as brain cogs start turning-

Dang wow, I came up with something good for once. Heh.

Oh yeah, and I did finally name my female Easter Buneary... I ended up just taking her name from a Beatles song that I like anyway. Martha the Easter Buneary. Yeeeeaah.
I need to get around to naming and describing my female Shellderboy sometime too. (Good grief, the thing's a walking paradox.) So far all I've got in mind is a name - Helga. -shrug- Other than that, all I've got is a vague idea of her being a useless bouncer.

Fhhh, all of these stories are win. I have to admit I'm a bit lost on everyone's but Irks, as I've only ever read Irk's journal faithfully XD. But I'll read a few descriptions of pokemon and acquaint myself.


@Irk: I wouldn't sweat it. Trainer(the aptly named self-insert of myself in some of my pokemon's descriptions) is a total jerk and fail trainer. Better stupid then...whatever Trainer is.

Well, so much for the "Irk's a moron" plot - Storm talked to me about doing a plot with her, so we'll be doing that now. YAY.

As a random side note, the more that I plan out journals, the more I realize that Dexter Grif the Volbeat doesn't have very much in common with his Red vs. Blue namesake. He's an over-eater with an active sweet tooth and he's a girl who likes to wear ribbons in his hair and wants to kiss all the boys. (Except not.) That's about it. XD And that's why my writing board thread has a warning about me not trying to stay fully in-character with these things!

Heh, yeah, it made me laugh while I was writing it. Otto keeps out of trouble most of the time though... because I bribe him with precious tritium and Oreos. But like I said, stay tuned next week, the next plot's gonna be a wild ride.

My favorite part was Peter's confession to breaking into and reading my comic stash. Mostly because it makes me wonder... how did he manage to do it without opposable thumbs?

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Everyone has a muse of somesort, be it a person, a song, a peaceful rainy day whilst sitting on your balcony pondering the thoughts of the world.

I personally usually get my inspiration for stories from songs. One of my largest, most thought out stories started from a single song, "Dancing through life" from Wicked. It spawned this idea that grew to great proportions.

What about you? Where do you get your drive from?

A lot of my inspiration comes from trying to put my own original twists on the plots of the fandoms that I keep leeching - I'll tend to take one element from the existing plot and then build something new around it. Sometimes, the point I leeched gets dumped to the wayside and then the whole thing ends up original.

I also have a tendency to make whole plots just to squeeze in a certain joke. Like Grif's fashion contest entry and his wishing for cake - while I put him in the contest before having any real journal ideas, that shortly became one big build up for a "the cake was a lie" joke. I'm just lame that way. =D

As for inspiration... on a whole, from Otto Octavius AKA Doctor Octopus - myep, the same one from my journals. He ish my official muse, although I do have a couple of others (you'll be seeing another one pop up during the next plotline). He's kind of a snarky Octopus at times though, so when he's being grumpy about something or other and not being muse-ly, I fall back on my sizeable collection of songs. They Might be Giants is quite often quirky enough to spark something... and Martha the Easter Buneary in my journal right now? Beatles reference. A very very vague reference, but a reference nonetheless.
(Now that I think about it, my muses don't really like me much or are pretty anti-social. Now I wonder why that would be... )

I think at some point I'm going to have a Pachirisu whose description is just the lyrics to Squirrels by Inside Out. heh. Looks like shiny Pachirisu is going on my list.

Irk, I remember reading your journals from the contest, and then when the "cake was a lie" one came up, I laughed so hard it HURT. I'm laughing as I type just from remembering it! Naming your Deoxys "Not Cake" was just the icing on the... cake...

Depends on my mood and who I want to put it. Like if I feel in a detective mood (LLOL), I include Cydney. If I feel in a sing-song mood, I include Joe. Crazy mood... Puddles. etc.etc.

Hello from the middle of nowhere! I'm currently en-route to my vacation spot, and we're takin a short break in the po-dunkiest town I've ever seen. Even the name of it is terrible. It's the town of Mexican Hat. Yet it's the only podunk town we've found with cell service. How odd

Updated my journal! Meet Erik, more commonly known as the Phantom of the Opera. He's... an interesting muse, to say the least. He usually hides out under the Opera, which actually turns out pretty well most of the time since Otto and Erik don't particularly like each other very much... hence why Otto went to the Rotom containment unit, which is in the far corner of the ranch.
Hopefully it doesn't fall to pieces while I'm out clicking.

A quick question though - should I put my 'research paper is eating my face' update in my journal thread? It's a pretty small entry, plus it was kind of spur of the moment... a bridge of sorts. I'm torn. I don't know whether or not to put it in my journal thread. Any suggestions?

I like the storyline, just not some of the lines. So im re-writing it so its pokemon (like how they faint instead of die or something), and my other pokemon get included to. Im gonna make Tybalt a right posh twit. xD

Just a quick heads up here - I'll be on vacation from Saturday March 13th to Saturday March 20th.
I'll probably be able to finish all of the userbars while I'm gone.

Thus, I will be updating my journal early - tomorrow sometime.
'Twill most likely be non-canon, but I'll see how it turns out...

So yesterday, I hatched one of my Saviour Project eggs for the day and went to get another from the Shelter. While I was in there, the site went down for a minute. And when it came back up, I had a Regice. The one time ALL day when I'd had an empty slot for more than thirty seconds and shazam, Regice. I hadn't wanted one-- the Hoenn legendaries have never got me too excited and that goes double for anything mineral. But I was idly struck by how much Regice in particular looks like a non-metal robot-- a huge beast of a thing that would probably move very slowly and heavily. And suddenly I had a completely surreal vision of this thing lurching around the Shelter in the dark and getting mistaken for the 36-hour monster, and thwacked/yelled at by a Shelter volunteer who came up to his knee. It gave me a fit of the giggles, so I decided to make it canon. Harrison the Regice is staying.

Anyone else ever have to get creative with unwanted gifts?

I get creative with unwanted Pokemon all the time - by honestly being a little abusive. XD;; Whether its using Regice as a refrigerator, getting pouty at Deoxys for not being cake, calling Drapion a "freaky scorpion/accordion love baby" because I ended up with the egg after not knowing what on Earth it could be by the lab description, or simply spending 600 characters yelling at Regigigas for ever being invented in the first place. Irk is, as a whole, not a pleasant person. XD;;

Unfortunately it's always bugged me if something's not quite right. That's part of the reason why I'm such a perfectionist with whatever I draw - and also why I rarely write anything other than these GPX journals.

I feel I should let you all know something, however. Our lovely co-owner, Irk Splee, will be taking a bit of a personal leave from the site for a while (after she finishes our tandem plot). Just got some stuff she needs to work out off the net. Don't bug her about it though, mmk loves? Just keep our irky in your prayers =)

So, tell me guys. Do you have a goal when you're writing? A purpose? If so, what is it? What do you write for? In hopes that people will love it? To educate the masses? To make people laugh? For your own personal enjoyment?

For me, it varies on the story. The Blimp Project I'm working on off-site is a story to educate the younger ones about following your dreams (with a side order of chemistry), while the Dmitri story I'm going to start as soon as I get that damn fourth chaos emerald shiny female ralts, I hope to inspire and awe. It doesnt really matter if its a huge hit with a bunch of people. If I get as few as 24 people who I can please with my Dmitri story, I will be a happy Storm.

My newest journal is finally written, I just need to get approval and an older journal off of Storm and then I can finally update that thing. FINALLY. I'm gonna try to not go almost three weeks without writing again. XD;; That was bad of me. While I'm writing in prose at points because my characters are away from the book, I prefer script format, though sometimes I need to remind myself that the idea is that my characters are all writing in a book, so things like vocal tone aren't present, Pokemon can just recently read something that someone else wrote about four entries up, total subject changes are possible without me needing to try too hard to segue into it, and it's perfectly normal for someone to say something and then not be responded to for a few hours, if that's what the plot needs (I THINK I pulled that with the Blik-goes-missing-while-Kai-horrifies-everyone plot, but I can't remember XD). SO YEAH THAT'S MY REASONING

I know how it feels, Irk. I remember trying to just leave the computer alone entirely while I was writing that research paper... -shudder- Yeagh, not fun. I ended up spending just as much time on the compy as before, just doing different things.

And really, they're pretty simple to do. The thing that really takes the longest is assembling all of the letters n' stuff. After that, it's just a matter of positioning everything, then turning it transparent. -shrug- It's not like I'm getting too terribly fancy schmancy with these.

Me, I prefer script format, mostly because if I try to do prose, I get waaaaay too wordy. I get too wordy just with this format as it is - I don't need extra descriptions and verbs n' stuff using up my precious 2000 characters.
I sometimes forget that the premise is that they're all writing in a book though... but just pretend that whenever Otto interrupts me, he's stealing the journal from me with an actuator or something YOU SAW NOTHING

Yours might take a little longer, DM. I can't decide whether Darkrai looks better on the red base (to tie in with the red teethy-thing) or the teal base (to tie in with its eye), or if I should just skip the colors and do a grayscale bar... which I'd have to figure out the grays from scratch since I don't have a gray base ready-made.
(edit: made a grayscale and tried Darkrai against it and it was boringness)

Interruptions are another thing I need to remember with the book premise, though usually it works due to Cass going "Oh crap, Kai's writing in the journal again, I better stop her before she writes something stupid". I don't recall using it in any other context, since that's the only one I can think of.

Gotcha, DM. Thing with the script format is, while my intention is the Pokemon writing in a book, I know not everyone does that. Baby Zorua, for example. There's pros and cons for both book format and just plain conversations. I prefer my book format since it's what I've been doing since September, but hey, to each their own! Though it does open the question of how some of my Pokemon write without thumbs. Or hands.

YAY FOR ME LOVE. My main regret at this point is that I never really established the sibling thing between Kai and Grif. Just never seemed important before. Now non-RvBers may go "They're siblings now? Which orifice did you pull that one from, Irk?" Go ahead, folks, you've got my full permission. OK, sure, as far as my canon goes they're only "acting" siblings, not blood, just like Gordon, Waffle, and Blik are, but since they've barely interacted "on-screen" before now... go go go asspull!

I've made some new rules and the new, scary Inactive list, for those who die away/stray from writing. I just want to make sure we keep up our purpose as a writing group. No writing = inactive list.

I have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to do this week... it's just a matter of if I'll be able to fit it in my journal. This week's entry will pretty much require a prose format, since it's kind of action-ey. It's not like I'm going to write something in the journal, toss it to Otto to write in, then he tosses it back, etc etc. That would just be illogical.

I may end up taking out a lot of my other stuff (like what groups I'm in and such) in order to make room for it. Depends on how wordy I get and how much I can then prune it down without losing the essentials. eeyargh.

Well, this week's update is up! ... Albeit a little later than usual because I nearly forgot
Anywho, it is in prose format this time around, but it works better this way. I did end up having to take out everything else in my journal to make room for it, but as long as I've got it saved elsewhere, I'm fine.
But the best part is, I didn't have to prune very much to make it fit! Yay!

Anywho, updated my journal yesterday, and in addition to freeing up nine boxes, I released 195 terrified Pidgey into the shelter. So if you visit the shelter and hear screams of pure unadulterated terror, don't be alarmed, it is just a flock of Pidgey fleeing from the wrath of a bloodthirsty octopus. Last time I checked, 34 Pidgey have been rescued from the cold, hungry tentacles of Rodney, but there are still 161 Pidgey out there, so won't you please help these poor, defenseless Pidgey? (or not, Rodney is really hungry)

Sometimes it feels like I'm talking (er, typing) to an empty room.
Posts on your journal thread aren't a bad thing as long as its related to your story.

What with General Conference today, I'll have quite a bit of extra time to do all of this. The afternoon session starts at 4 PM server time, so I'll get on all this then - it won't take me too long, plus I want to use the time that I have in between to do some clicking. (Because I have to stream the session from the Internet - the TV station that used to run it decided not to renew the contract it makes everything else load uber slow)

And Baby Zorua, I'll turn that one transparent while I'm at it too. I'll PM ya how I turn things transparent though if you're interested.
As for your v2 LAWL bar... I don't think transparency would work very well for it. The text would end up having little white fuzzies around it. I think it's better off as is, in my opinion.

@Baby Zorua: I'm not quite sure what you're asking there... I'm saying that for the one with Smeargle and Jigglypuff it looks better as is - turning it transparent would leave undesirable fuzzies around the text.

Anywho, afternoon session of General Conference starts in just a few minutes... anybody else want to put in some last minute userbar requests?

Journal update time once again! Back to script style for me~
Updated my thread with the previous entry.

Okay, I admit - this week's journal is pretty random. What can I say? The Rotoms are insane. At least now we know that Otto's actuators are no longer functioning under their own will - the Rotoms possessed them! (Hence the actuators names followed by "Rotom Hordeling")
I enjoyed writing Harry's bits in the journal though.

Just in case anyone's unclear on what happened at the end, the "weird dragony thing" is my Dracowymsy Enigma.
