So, what book did you last read (re-reading also counts)? Was it any good? If so, share with the rest of us!

The last book I read was called Elantris, by Brandon Sanderson; it's a standalone fantasy, and his first published novel. I thought it was excellent, and very original (it kept me guessing most of the time). It dragged in a few places, but overall a very good read, and more people should read it!

I was reading Animorphs, the second book (The Visitor). The series is really good. I used to be obsessed with it, but now I just read it once in awhile (I finished the whole series a few years ago).

From a Buick 8, by Stephen King. I've got three books started ATM that I alternate between when I want to read something. It's like, a good way to decide what I want to do at night. XD

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. It was my summer reading for school. I did kind of enjoy it, though. It really had some impressive writing in it.

I sort of abandoned it when school started at the end of August, but I'm in the middle of The Sorceress, book 3 of the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series. If you're into magic and action, the whole series is fantastic.

My last book I read was The Long Patrol by Brian Jacques. It was one of the Redwall series that I really enjoyed, I'm reading Triss right now and I'm about halfway done.

I recently started re-reading the Harry Potter series... but so far I have only finished the Chamber of Secrets (book 2 for you ignorant ones) and also a sound-book of Deathly Hollows (yes, 2 and 6.... but it helped me notice a few things about the Chamber of Secrets I hadn't noticed before) but right now I'm reading Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox XD

The Goose Girl, which is awesome feminist fairy-tale YA fantasy, hugely recommended, and the Small Business Guide to E-Marketing, which is more... practical and useful. I've started Enna Burning, which is the sequel to The Goose Girl.

"The Book of Tea" by Kakuzo Okakura.

I've always been interested in Eastern tea procedures and traditions, and I love the many healing benefits a simple cup can provide.

This book also qualifies as the best homework assignment ever since I had to read it for a class.

Disco Bloodbath - James St. James

Awesome telling of the infamous murder committed by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Alig during the Club Kid disco drug scene in late 1980s and early 1990s. They made a movie of it called 'Party Monsters' which was just as amazing as the book.

I finished The Princess Bride two days ago, and it was fantastic. As good, if not better, than the movie, but I saw the movie first and it has more sentimental value for me.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Gah, stupid Americans and changing its title) was the last one I finished reading. I am in the middle of reading Twilight and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Haven't read them for a while though. The two largest books I've ever read were The Loop and Watership Down (awesome book, you should read it).

I just finished Lord of the Flies last night. Good book, but the way he writes it makes it confusing sometimes, so I have to guess who is saying what. Also, his attempt at slang usage is a bit weird. But sucks to that too.

The end/near end was spoiled for me though, so I managed to catch a lot of the foreshadowing. Amazing how much you don't catch until you know what to expect.

I just got finished reading that for one of my classes, I definitely picked up a whole lot more than I did when I read it in highschool. Which I think was my professor's point in choosing that particular book, since she knew a lot of us would have read it before XD Since you thought it was good already I definitely suggest going back to a few years after you graduate. Now all my recently read books are srs bsns school books, like Sons and Lovers by D.H. Lawrence and The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton. Although I don't particularly go for classics, so to speak, I do now highly recommend Katherine Mansfield's short stories, they're quick to read and extremely interesting, plus they're very good at making you think.

On a more fun note, I did read Grave Peril by Jim Butcher, part of the Dresden Files series. I'd read them all but that one, which considering it's the third out of eleven, led to a bit of confusion, but I'm glad I went back and read it even though I'd pretty much figured out what happened.

I finished The Child Thief by Brom earlier this evening. It's incredible. It's actually my new favorite book.
It's an adaptation of the classic Peter Pan, and if you thought Peter looked like a freakin' ninja in the Disney movie, your mind will be blown.

However, regardless of how glad I am to have finished that amazing book, I'm sad... because I have nothing else to read at the moment...

Lastest series I'm working on: Maximum Ride by James Patterson. Highly intertaining. I read Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports, The Final Warning, and MAX: A Maximum Ride Novel in 6 hours. Couldn't put them down once I started. Plus I'm a really fast reader.

Just got done reading 1984 for class. It messed me up in the head and I will never read it again!

On a happier note, I am rereading the Nightlife series by Rob Thurman. If your interested in Action Novel with some monsters in it action. Read them. They are damn good books. The first is Nightlife, the second is Moonshine, the third is Madhouse and the fourth is Deathwish. I dont know if there are going to be more but I hope so.

I read Ender's Game in high school, so I wanted to read some of the sequels. This one was essentially the same plot, but written from the prospective of Bean, who was...well, Ender's shadow (not literally :P)

It had me crying during lunch... >.>;
It's an amazing book. I really don't know what else to say about it, but Albom is just amazing. I think that everyone should read at least one of his works...

I read The Devil Wears Prada. What was the point of Christian in the whole book, really? I haven't watched the movie so I don't know what Andrea and Christian do in it. I laughed at Andrea's misery just like everyone else.

I'm currently reading 'Thirteen reasons why' by Jay Asher. It's great! We're going to read it in school after the holidays (yes, you read right. In Germany, we've only got summer holidays for six weeks but two weeks 'autumn holidays' after roughly eight weeks of school.). After that, I'm planning to read 'Hexagon' by Marc Kayser, the sequel to the German book 'Trias'. I'm pretty sure neither has been published in other languages...

Before that, I have to admit I read 'Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith' by Matthew Stover, since I saw a quote and was instantly in love with the writing style. I'm normally not a fan of science-fiction, but it was still amazing...

I can't remember what, precisely, I just finished, so I'll give the last five, in no particular order, because I read them all around the same time:

Singularity's Ring by Paul Melko, which is a really nifty sci-fi about a particular group of people known as a pod, who operate and are considered to be one person, which is highly normal in their society, while singletons are the technical outcasts

My umpteen-millionth rereading of the Harper Hall books Dragonsong and Dragonsinger, by Anne McCaffrey. I'm actually about to start on the third (also for the umpteen-millionth time). I really need to get new copies of these, or maybe the old hardcover omnibus, just to have it look pretty on my bookshelf, 'cause these poor books are almost literally falling apart, I've read them so much.

Ranger's Apprentice: The Siege of Macindaw, by John Flanagan. I don't care what people say, I may be in my twenties, but a well-written book is always good, even if it's directed for a much younger audience. Besides, most of my favorite series' have female main characters. It's nice to have one that's male.

Shade's Children, by Garth Nix. Another sci-fi, this one post-apocalyptic. It was kind of disturbing in some ways, and very graphic, but I love his writing style. I swear, he could write a textbook about how to draw right angles and I think I'd be enthralled.

And last, but not least, Michelle Sagara's Cast in Silence. And I hate that I have to wait another year before the next installment of that series. It's fantastic, and I think the main character is so wonderfully three-dimensional that she could walk out of the book and pass as a normal human being ... because that's exactly what she is, and it's great.

Terrry Pratchett, Unseen Academicals. It was even more disappointing than Making Money - it was cluttered, and who cares about soccer anyway? Even the wizards were nowhere near as funny as usual, and both Ridcully and the former Dean seemed OOC. He's really been off his game since the brilliant Thud!

The last books I finished reading was my mom's copy of The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. It was okay, but the resolution needed work. In context, it should not have happened immediately. But oh well.

"Do androids dream of electric sheep?" by Philip K. Dick.

I put off reading it for ages, even though I'm a fan pf PKD, because I thought Blade Runner sucked big time, and it's based on "Sheep?". But it turns out it was a very loose adaptation, and the book is deep, subtle, meaningful, scary, complex, moving and short - everything Blade Runner is not.

It also has a better title.

I <3 PKD. I recommend his books to anyone who likes intelligent, creative scifi with mindbogglingly clever premises. Even if they do tend to be turned into movies like "Total Recall" and "Paycheck".

Okay, just finished numerous Stephen King books including: Pet Semetary, Night Shift, Skeleton Crew and It. I'm now working on 'Salem's Lot.
Oh, I forget I also finished reading Doomwyte by Brian Jaques for the second time. I can't wait until February when The Sable Quean comes out, I really need to read the newest Redwall book. It's becoming an obsession now.

I just finished reading Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith, which was pretty good despite the plot being rather predictable. However, it wasn't nearly as good as Gorky Park, despite what everyone says.

At the moment I'm reading Pnin by Vladimir Nabokov, and Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, which should last me a little while. They're both rather wordy.

This is one of my most favorite books in the world. Have you read it before? For me it started off super slow, I had to put it down and pick it back up, but after I picked it up (and forced myself to get through the first fourth of the book or so) it was ah-mazing. So if you haven't read it before, don't be put off by how tedious it seems at first.

I got done a couple of days ago with a book called The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. It's a newish series called the Kingkiller Chronicles. It's the first book in that series. It was a very good read, and I don't rate books very lightly.

I am now reading The Malloreon, Volume 1: Guardians of the West, King of the Murgos, Demon Lord of Karanda by David Eddings. I've read The Belgariad and it was an entertaining read, so I'm excited to start this one.

The last book I read was Book of the Dead by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.
It was the sequel to Dance of Death, so the storyline wouldn't make much sense if I explained it.
In the book, Special Agent Pendergast is being pursued by his brother, Diogenes who is a brilliant, insane criminal. It's a good book. I recommend reading as many Pendergast novels you can.

A couple, actually, though nothing new.

"Hunted" by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast. It's the 5th in the House of Night series. The story isn't actually that great, but I've become attached to the series for some reason.

"The Green Man: Tales from the Mythic Forest." It's a collection of short stories and poems about treemen, fae, shapeshifters, etc, with a very informative introduction. Rather inspiring for my own writing.

Finished rereading "tokyo/the devil of nanking" by Mo Hayder.. it's good if you like quite quirky/disturbing [..somewhere between the two] novels about human nature and the disfiguration of it in the struggle for power and denial of history and past mistakes.
also, hostesses.

Currently sort-of-reading frankie boyle's autobiography, which was a birthday present. It's quite like his stand up so far, hur.

I finished the Hardy Boys Galaxy x trilogy for the second time. The end of the third book is great.

Yeah, I know I'm past the target age, but I grew up with the Hardy Boys, and I'm not giving them up!

It's not for the faint hearted, and it can be pretty morbid at times.
(It is based around the hunt for a serial killer, though - so it's understandable.)

'Fallen' by Lauren Kate

It was a very good book in my opinion. The plot was interesting, and the events that happened in the plot would motivate me to continue reading and find out what happens next. Such a shame the next book in the series don't come out until September, because I really want to know what happens next ;-;

Empire Falls by Richard Russo
I had to read it for school, but it was a pretty good book. The only I did not like about it was the ending, it was just a little unnecessary for a book like that.

i just got done reading the horsemistress saga by toby bishop

its really good about a farm girl who is accidentally bonded to a winged horse when only girls from noble family are bonded. she also has to stop a mad duke who hates women and hates the fact that only women can flay the winged horse. so the duke sets out to try to bring the women especially the farm girl down an crate a line of winged horses for men to fly on.
i think its a really good sires to read

The God Engines by John Scalzi. He's a fantastic SF author, probably my favorite. Anyhow, this book was his attempt to dabble in fantasy. It came out blended strongly with his SF style and content. It was unique and unpredictable and I thouroughly enjoyed it. Great read

The last book I read was for class, and my English class right now is about children's literature, so it's Alice in Wonderland. Before that, it was Peter Pan and Treasure Island. Kind of makes me look a little childish, I guess? But it's been fun.

If assigned reading doesn't count, I don't know what the last book I read was--probably Making Money by Terry Pratchet. Right now I'm reading Dark Banquet: Blood and the Curious Lives of Blood-Feeding Creatures, but I'm only halfway through.

Looks like everyone's reading some awesome books--I read the Artemis Fowl books over Christmas break (stole them from my little sister ) and The Lovely Bones and The Truth About Forever are some of my all-time favorites. And Haunted was really gross, but I had to finish it because it was assigned reading for me last semester--and it was well-written, so it could have been a lot worse. XD

The last book I read is not a real book per se, it's "The World According to Clarkson" by Jeremy Clarkson, it's a collection of columns he wrote while working for the Sunday Times. They ran from 7 January 2001 until 14 December 2003. The topics were varied, each one usually based on either a big or trivial news story from the week. About eight were written as Clarkson travelled around Europe. All of the articles are written with humour but often with some serious undertone.

I picked this book up out of the blue. It's a paranormal romance. No aliens or ghosts, though the setting is on a futuristic planet called St. Helens. Everyone is born a psion, or otherwise people with psychic powers of some sort. I thought it was pretty good. The book has a different concept on psychics. I find the names of inventions silly though, like coff-tea, jelly-ice, vio-piano (unless these things actually exist irl...consider me ignorant).

It's a really good [but very detailed] book in an alternate timeline in Japan, where students are forced to battle for their lives with their school mates and only allow one student to survive, in a hope to battle overpopulation and to keep the goverment's force of power in check to provide fear to the public.

And before you get judgmental, I only read it because my friend explained its shit plot and something about a baby vampire eating it's way out of Bella and then Jacob falls in love with it or something like that. The last book I finished was Youth In Revolt. I hated it, the movie was even worse Definitely not Micheal Cera's best, but arguably also not his worst. XD But it's hard to read a book where the main character does the exact OPPOSITE of what you want them to do.

Then I tried to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but I got too bored and then I bought the second book in the Bartimaeus Trilogy, so I started re-reading that ^^

Ah, I just finished a book by Kyra Davis titled "So Much For My Happy Ending". =/ For such a lame title, it's actually quite the read if you don't mind a first-person narration.

It's about a woman who gets into a marriage with a man who..well, who isn't who she thought he was. As..boring as that sounds, I definitely recommend it.

On a side note, I was having relationship troubles before I read it.
...Reading through it changed my mind a bit and I managed to work everything out without hardly doing anything.

I finished two books today and started one up. The ones I finished were Out Of My Mind, and Lord Of The Flies. The one I started was The Prince Of Mist.

Out Of My Mind was, for me, better then The Lord Of The Flies because of the emotions rolled into the plot. I loved it, and nearly cried because of how sad it was.

The Lord Of The Flies was for school and personally, I didn't like it much. It was a little hard to understand in some areas and the plot, I found, was quite boring. I liked the ending, though! xD It made me happy.

The Prince Of Mist, is my favorite book. This is actually the third or fourth time I've re-read it. I love the villan in it, Prince of mist, because of how evil, yet magical he is. Even though I've read that book multiple times, it never ceases amazing me.

ok. i read the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud. It's kinda old but a very good read if you like wizards, demons(or more respectively Djinni), and total chaos with a little thrill thrown in. I'm actually on the last one but i can't finish it because its at my friend's house , so i'm currently reading the lord of the rings ^__^

The Warriors: New Prophecy: Midnight.
I'm only reading it for homework I have on the holidays, and I chose it because I've read it before, and it's smallish.

Just to clarify things here. Yes I have read the series, no I'm not a fan. Yes I know Crowfeather is a WindClan warrior cat, so it may seem that I like the Warrior Cats, when actually CrowFeather is the name of my Sadistic Transformers Character.

Ah, good question! The last book I read was To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. I read it for school, and goodness, I ended up appreciating what it had to say a whole lot more than I thought I would. What a thoughtful book it was.

I'm enjoying reading some of the suggestions people are making here! I'll have to look into some of the titles mentioned.

The Family by Buchi Emecheta. What a disappointment. This, and the two previous books I had to read for this class were exactly alike, and both were tiresome cliches to read through. Standard soap opera bullcrap.

Just finished "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova.


In the novel, the protagonists span three generations. Each generation has one or more of its own historians. All are looking for the real Dracula (Prince Vlad Tepes) for both professional and personal reasons.

All believe that 'Drakulya' still walks the earth, selecting his acolytes and spreading his evil through bites on the neck, which leave them "undead." The search for the truth takes them to several different countries and to journeys of self-discovery that none anticipated.


I can totally see someone turning this book into an epic movie or mini series!

Its a very thrilling book and vaguely creepy in that it makes you feel that the "Dark Prince" could not only possibly still be alive, but lurking around any corner or looking over your shoulder as you read it.


In that respect, I think its better than most of the other vampire-fiction out there right now (Twilight especially!).

Ok, my last book I read is in a series known as Alcatraz and NO it was not about the prison, but a kid named Alcatraz. It was the second book in the series and it is by Brandon Sanderson (however, in the book it claims Alcatraz wrote it, but what ever). I'm not a person who enjoys reading, but i LOVE comedy, and this series is FUNNY!!!!
