I feel like the Novelty pokemon ordering is getting seriously more and more out of order every time we get a new novelty. Now I love a new egg as much as the next man, but with all the new variants coming in, it would be nice for the novelty numbers to be reset into a better order. Like how they're now just being popped into any number they'll fit so a living dex starts looking like a mess.
I'm confused, what do you mean by re-numbering a PC box?

To go along with this, the Generation 6 Legendaries/Mythicals are also out of order (they're in the middle of the non-Legendary section of the Dex), as are Darmanitan's Zen form (stuck between non-Legendaries and Megas), the Alolans, and all the alternate forms of Vivillon, Oricorio, Wishiwashi, Furfrou and Minior (all stuck in the middle of Novelties).
Also, on an only semi-related note, sometime around Generation 5 or so, the "date released" field was added to the Dex, but nothing from Generation 6 onward has ever had any data in this field, as far as I'm aware.
I mean what pumpkin-king interpreted. The Pokemon are out of order (and in the pokedex as well as PC numbers) novelties such as Rotom are no longer pooled neatly, Wormadam seems to be in the Novelty area, the Alohan Pokemon are spread almost randomly...
It's not the worst thing ever, but as more pokemon arrive, most notably from the Alohan region, it's a problem that will make itself worse. It's the kind of problem that is best solved sooner rather than later.
I'm just not sure how easy - or difficult - it would be to fix.

I definitely agree too, would it be possible to move the novelties to a separate number count for simplification?
I brought this up a couple weeks ago I think? Specifically pertaining to the fact that Gen 7 does not appear at all in some sorts of the Dex, would be nice to see the order fixed and be able to see Gen 7 in the other sorting options.
I only joined recently, but quickly noticed this as well, and it does bother me. It's also worry some with how close we are getting to official Pokemon reaching that big 1000 number (where the Alternate Forms start). And once that happens whether it takes 2 generations, or as many as 5, we're going to need to alter the numbering anyway.
Honestly I'd suggest moving things with some consistency. (Canon) Alt Forms in the 2000s, Megas in the 3000s, Alolan forms in the 4000s, Anime Noveltys in 5000s, Game Noveltys in the 6000s, Unique Noveltys in the 7000s, and Admin Noveltys in the 8000s. That way each would be given some breathing room for when the next novelty, or generation, gets added. And it's all nicely organized.
I know it won't be the easiest job, but it's one that will be easier to do sooner rather than later. Just look at what happened to the Rotom-Dex because they were full on either side. And it can only get worse the longer it's left.
