ok I liked this game everybody harps about how badit is and I think it's just because of all of the press it got before the release. I play a lot of other pc shooters and it isn't as good but I still LIKE it.
I don't like how you can barely ever see anything though. -------------------- I claim Scizor also don't pm me and ask me to trade if you don't have anything in mind. |

Never played it. I got it and the expansion pak, but my graphics card is built in, and therefore makes everything look like a bad Amiga 3D rendering. The best this computer can run is Q3A at medium settings without lag only when there's not a mirror. Sure, I could buy a better card, but why play Doom 3 when you have the previous 4 games, especially when there's countless mods, maps, and online source ports like Skulltag and zDaemon?

can you still get the older games as free ware or is that out of the question by now? Nope, they aren't even close to becoming free/abandonware, aside from the sourcecode being released. If you are too cheap to get the games off of Steam, I would reccomend FreeDoom, but it's pretty unfinished. You can still play all the mods with it, though. -------------------- |

My dad forced us to buy it. I liked the original Doom better. I played D3 (my dad bought it again... for the 360 I think). I swear, he and my brother are obsessed with Doom. I prefer Quake and Unreal.

I'll probably just get it off of steam. (I love steam)
man I wish there were other people in my family that played games... -------------------- I claim Scizor also don't pm me and ask me to trade if you don't have anything in mind. |

I would reccomend not using the program Steam gives you to run it. Copy the doom.wad/doom2.wad/final.wad/tnt.wad file from your Steam folder into a new folder, and download the latest version of Chocolate Doom, if you want the game to behave just like the original; or ZDoom, if you want an enhanced version of the source code that can handle much more than the original ever could. Extract the contents of the zip files from either ZDoom or Chocolate Doom into the folder containing the copied wad file (I reccomend having seperate folders for each source port), and doubleclick the exe file for the specific program to start playing. The same steps apply to Skulltag, which is for online play.
Oh, and for mods and such, I reccomend Doomworld. -------------------- |

what do you mean by play more like the original? what is the difference? Well, ZDoom is made for pushing the limits of the Doom engine to new extremes (remappable controls to fit any scheme you want, the ability to add new weapons/monsters/items, enormous detail, the ability to jump/crouch, bridges, deep water, glitches fixed, etx.), while Chocolate Doom makes it work just like the original version (which was plagued with bugs, limits, and bad netcode, but it's still not a bad engine) -------------------- |

you seem to be a big fan! I noticed by your name.
you would probably be really disappointed with doom 3 though since it's more like a slow version of half life 1 with alien tacked on. -------------------- I claim Scizor also don't pm me and ask me to trade if you don't have anything in mind. |

Yeah, Doom 3 is pretty boring. Too many zombies. I need to deathmatch again one day... I always beat my dad.

Maybe you should change the topic name to FPS Discussion, because we are drifting away from Doom 3 discussion

Huh.
GlaDos is awesome. Also played a little Halo... fun shit. My brother got Halo 3 and we goofed off a lot. I was primarily the Arbiter. Go aliens! |
