[Apologies if this is in the wrong section. I've played this game for years and years but never poked my head on the forum. Please move it to the right spot if it isn't.]
I mean, I get that trinkets are random, but the "Scold's Bridle" in particular completely contradicts the atmosphere of the entire game. I play it for lighthearted fun, so I was surprised to find this in my pokechest. http://prntscr.com/c1d3az This thing was used to silence and otherwise lacerate the tongues/mouths of the accused for breaching etiquette/whatever. It also served as a humiliation device to rub salt into the literal wounds. (Which was even worse back then for women, since image/behavior/reputation was literally all they had, and a lack thereof could ruin their lives.) The curb-plate was frequently studded with spikes, so that if the offender moved her tongue, it inflicted pain and made speaking impossible. This isn't some weird sensitivity/feminist thing, this trinket just really doesn't seem to fit this game and it was a shock to log on for some lighthearted, lazy egg-clicking only to end up mildly disturbed (especially since I already knew what this was, even without the description). I just want to ask: do you really want this here? Is this appropriate for the vision and tone of the game? It's fine if it can't/won't be removed or you guys find that it does match what you want for GPXplus, but damn am I trading this away ASAP. Creepy. XD Just thought it would make an interesting discussion. This post has been edited by CheckeredZebra: Aug 3 2016, 09:36 PM |

Trinkets were submitted by users of the site, not made by the staff, and pretty much anything that's not plagiarised was accepted. You can find thousands of objects as Trinkets, none of which are related to the rest of the site except as little things to collect. Someone just decided that torture devices would be a fun thing to make, and hey did a good job spriting them too, so there's no reason they should be removed over anything else. And remember that all Trinkets were evaluated by the staff, so they already decided that these aren't particularly offensive.
In short, I don't think they should be removed and I know they won't be removed, but hey, if you'd rather not have them you can always gift them to someone on your Pal Pad. That's part of the game as well :p -------------------- |

Personally, I am fine with it. Trinkets are meant as a huge collectible items collected for fun (and achievements, but mostly fun.) so a variety of items beside the usual plushie/toys is a pretty nice addition.
Well, but if you get creeped out, you can trade em off -------------------- |

Yikes. Gotta agree with CheckeredZebra on this one. It's creepy and doesn't fit the site.
I mean... trinkets are supposed to be fun, a little minigame on the site for when you're getting in some downtime between mass clicking. I understand wanting variety, but having torture devices? There's many other things in this world the staff could have chosen besides that. I don't want to talk bad about them, but that was terrible thinking on their part to let that trinket in. There should at least be an option to throw trinkets away. I don't think I'd want to gift that to anyone really. |

It's just a trinket, who cares? I'm glad that this site isn't as strict as most adoptable sites, because it gets extremely frustrating as an adult to feel like you're constantly walking on eggshells. I don't really think the site has a "tone" either. It's just a Pokémon collecting site where the vast majority of members seem to be adults or young adults, with that in mind I don't see any issue with trinkets being weird or creepy, especially when several Pokémon themselves have really warped backstories.

When I get the time, I might try submitting a Judas Cradle, Spanish Donkey, Brazen Bull, and a Pear of Anguish. Happy collecting!
