yay sounds fun!! Good luck everyone
Oh wow, I was around for the first egg design contest but i didn't enter for some reason.
If every entry gets something i guess i could try.
I'm excited to see what everyone makes! :]
reseving for egg spot.
edit: my one's been enterd.
good luck everyone
Everyone will have a chance to enter before July 17th. There's nothing special for users who submit first, so please don't rush to submit your entry if you don't have to.
Also, DO NOT post your egg anywhere on the forum or elsewhere in public. Letting others know which entry is yours is a fast way to get disqualified.
Nice! An egg design. Just what I'm great at. J/K. I'll have to see if I can entice my youngest back and have her enter one. Not sure if we have the right internet settings to be so creative, but if anyone in the family can do it.. I'm sure she could! Not sure if I will enter because... yeah. My art is with words. Not pictures. So I'm looking forward to seeing the artistic side of everyone on the site. Even the ones that don't get though the first rounds, in my opinion, are usually quite good. GPX just knows so many Pokemon inspired good artists!
Good luck to you all. I'm looking forward to seeing your entries!
I've made my submission. Hopefully it gets through the first round. This is my first egg design contest, so I'm excited to show off my top-notch MSP sprite editing skills! And I bet the other submissions will be great too.
Look at all those puns. Good luck everyone! I hope y'all enjoy the event.
Hmm, since we have until the 17th maybe I'll enter. Can't remember if I entered the last one. Now to think of ideas.
Ooo Ill have to do this before i leave town!
I have a few ideas in mind already
I guess I know what I'll be doing tomorrow Got a decent base going, just need to tidy things up in the next week or so.
e: nvm
SO PSYCHED!! I remember the first egg design contest aaaages ago! And I just got back into the swing of spriting so YAY!
Went ahead and worked on mine and submitted. I'm pretty proud of it as I'm not the best spriter but I've learned a thing or two from people here. Can't wait to see all the other entries.
Can we get a short description field, please? Just so we can get context on people's entries? I like to see the thought process behind people's creations.
Sounds amazing but I'm not that good at art despite getting a B on my art GCSE.
The eggs designed in the last contest were brilliant and very detailed, my would just be crude
I was thinking about this a few months ago and had lots of ideas had it ever come back, but considering how dead the site is now I never thought it'd happen again, and now I can't remember any of my ideas LOL.
Tho I do have an idea or two I thought up of when I saw this thread, so hopefully I can make something swaggy. Art isn't really my forte at all so pray 4 me,
Sounds fun and I'm glad to see another egg contest ^^ been a long while since we last had one!
But I'm not quite sure yet what type of egg I'd like to do... especially with there being so many talented people out there haha
if I get around to it, though, I'll do my best to submit one
Well this is sure a surprise! Time to try my hand at some spriting again, I suppose.
Oo, sounds like fun! I can't wait to see all the cool designs people come up with! Maybe I'll even try my hand at one.
Can I just say I lovelovelove Volmise's art in the first post?
Have fun, everyone!
Just give it a go. ^^
I was thinking of entering at first, but then I remembered that I'm horrible at spriting and such. So, my design probably wouldn't look too fancy.
So I'm just gonna sit back and watch for this one.
I've wanted to do this ever since I first joined! I never actually did the 2011 events since I was new, but they looked fun. Anyways, why is there a color limit? I made a really pretty design, but it had 500 or so different colors, so I had to go back and cut down on the stuff I did, so it doesn't look AS good (but I still think it looks pretty good )
Looking at the first egg design contest, I'm feeling slightly intimidated. MSP works down to the pixel, but apparently the entries in the last one were able to work down beyond the pixel. I'm not letting this discourage me, though! Still, I wonder what kind of programs were they using to be able to put in that much detail.
I meant any measurements that are smaller than the standard pixel, assuming those are a thing. IDK if millipixels or micropixels actually exists. But there's more detail on some of the eggs than going pixel by pixel, that's for sure.
Sorry to be a noob but I just wanted to ask: are we designing eggs to look like certain new pokemon, or just designing them however we'd like?
Also could I possibly get a link to the last egg design contest, if anyone would be so kind? I can't spot it haha
Is there a way to check my entry in the first egg competition? I want to compare, and I haven't found it in the contest page.
I'm using Photoshop for my eggs ^^ And I guess I must have not entered the egg contest last time since I didn't see my egg in the list xD
Just 2 questions:
1)Does the mode have to be RGB?
2)Is 64 the max or minimum colour?
I believe 64 colors is the maximum. That's quite a bit of leg-room, actually. As for RGB, I don't know.
Ovi-r here, I'm wishing the best of luck to everyone!
This seems fun, I'm already eggs-tastic over this. I already submitted my entry, just waiting for it to get egg-cepted.
...These egg puns are so eggs-ellently cheesy, I could make a tasty omelette with them.
Ahhhhh, probably a dumb question, but is there anything we can do if we've accidentally submitted the wrong image or are we up a creek if that happens?
Good luck to all! I look forward to being absolutely blown away again like last time! I'm amazed at the skill that this community has!
I entered the one I made today, as I don't think I can get it much better (I lack both the skills of an artist and the patience to go pixel by pixel for very long). I used Paint, and while it's not the most detailed design, and probably won't make it much past round 1 or 2, I'm fairly happy with how it came out. I think it's an improvement over my submission from the last egg contest (a Hostess chocolate cupcake with the white swirls, because I had no inspiration and could whip it up last minute before the submission deadline), so I'm proud of it no matter how it places.
Plus, the fact that anyone who enters gets some kind of prize was a nice motivation to enter regardless!
when u make an egg
> 294 colors
>> cries
this is gonna b funn
oh nvm that was easier to fix than I thought god bless MS paint pixel work and not gimp brush work #blessed
Just entered my design and was very happy with it... Until I saw the winners of the old contest
Oh well. Making it was fun, so I'm happy either way ^^
Just submitted my entry! Good Luck to all!
Yay another egg contest! I entered the first one in 2010 (I still have my entry in my signature) and had so much fun! I might try again if I have time. c':
Anyone else get a warm feeling when the note on your submission page changed from pending to accepted?
I'm surprised I got accepted. Thank you, whoever accepted mine!
I remember trying this once upon a time. It was fun. I think I'll give it another go.^^
Not to sound impatient or anything, but how long does it take for a submission to be accepted? I put in my entry Friday night and it's still pending.
edit: I had to wait a week just to have to submit a new entry? I'm not sure I can get one accepted in time.
I submitted my egg design on Tuesday and was happy to see when I checked a lil bit ago it was accepted. Honestly my spriting skills are rusty to say the least. I doubt I'll get far, though it's nice to know anyone will get a prize for entering. I remember many years ago I was planning to do an egg design and never did it. Honestly thinking of ideas can be such a pain...I still have some element-bent Pokemon designs I want to work on...namely of the second generation starters.
That being said I look forward to seeing the submissions and thank you to whoever accepted my entry. The worst part is that I normally don't have patience for things but spiriting I've always had patience for...or well more patience. Funnily...I think my color count was like...19. But then I've done spiriting for at least a decade so...it's easier to keep the count low and still look good.
EDIT: Looking over the last few pages, I wanted to add that I use Photoshop myself since I can make the egg transparent as well as keep layers for the edits I'm doing. For example I kept the very original base first, then the base colors I was using, then each additional part I added...and of course a layer to keep track of all the colors I need or may use. I was going to try for an actual Pokemon but decided to leave that for another time and just do something non-Pokemon. Would of been cool to do an egg for the new 7th Gen starters though. TEAM LITTEN!
My Paint skills are quite sub-par, I think I prefer Dress-Up Contests. xD
I'm not entirely happy with the less-than-64-colors version of my egg, but at least I managed to make something that doesn't look completely weird. xD
Got my egg in just there. I had to change my idea a couple times, but I ended up making something I'm happy with It wasn't too hard to get it under 64 colours either, although I was a bit surprised that it did go over. I just really hope it gets accepted now! I'll show it (and a couple beta designs) off when it gets knocked out.
I'm surprised at how many people had trouble staying under 64 colors. I can't even fathom why you really need too many either. I find it best to use at most 5 shades of a single color. Still I can't wait to see the eggs people have made.
Trying to make a design I'm happy with is seriously so hard... xD I've actually pixelated only a handful of my ideas and I just KNOW I'm going to submit it right before the deadline
Edit: Well... after spending five hours tonight making two more eggs, decided to go with the one I made last night after all xD I hope it does okay
I made my egg transparent, but the site linked in the OP made it a gif instead of a png, so I went back into Paint and saved the transparent gif as a png. I didn't realize until I'd submitted that Paint changed the transparency into a solid black background, so I'm glad whoever's sorting through submissions allowed me to resubmit. I ended up just submitting the white-background version from before I tried to make it transparent, and it looks fine on the contest page's white background.
Mine got approved this morning. My skills suck lol but had to have a go :p
We'll be extending submissions through at least Wednesday, to allow more time for new submissions as well as resubmits of denied ones... and also possibly because I don't have the time tonight to get the polls up anyway.
I asked on FB but gonna ask here as well for visibility. Are we allowed to resubmit if we've made a slight edit to what was already submitted? Or is this just for people who didn't submit or submitted w/o transparent backgrounds?
Just got an answer.
Cannot wait for the voting to start.
Judging by other artsy contests the site has had, the entries will be awesome! :]
I'm so antsy to see if my new one will be accepted! I'm actually kind of glad the one from Sunday was rejected - I think the tinkering to fix it for resubmission actually improved it in the long run. Is the deadline still tonight?
Submissions will be closing tonight, but not precisely at reset (we'll be out until later).
However, I'm going to allow resubmits of denied entries until Thursday night, and then the polls will be up at some point on Friday (possibly after reset Thursday). The page will just be closed to new submissions after tonight.
The voting shall soon begin!! ~
I'm excited for the voting!
Good luck to all who entered!
Good luck, everyone!
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
*Excitement intensifies gregariously*
Hopefully polls will be up in the morning, I've gotta be up and in work for 8 so I may have to check them late afternoon (around 5-6pm).
Can't wait though!
Voting has begun! http://forums.gpx.plus/index.php?showforum=157
These first ten polls, with 21 entries each, and 5 votes allowed per poll, will be up until Tuesday night.
Top 10 per poll will move on.
There were some good and some not so good entries from what I saw. But good luck everyone!
Question, how many eggs progress from each part? whoops nvm
WOWZERS!
I just visited the polls and (dare I say it? I dare! I dare!) We have very talented artists here at GPX and far better candidates than the US Presidential election! There was a lot of tough choices to make and I can see how many really put some thought behind their designs. Kudos to all of you!
Wow, some of these are really impressive!
This would be very, very great, wouldn't it?
Round 2 voting has begun! http://forums.gpx.plus/index.php?showforum=157
There are five polls with 20 entries each, and 5 votes are allowed per poll again. These will be up until Friday night, three full days.
Again, the top ten per poll will move on.
If you lost in Round 1, the http://gpx.plus/contest will say so at the top. If you're still in the running, it will tell you which thread your entry is in.
Good luck!
I was surprised I made it into Round 2. Anyway good luck to those who made it into Round 2.
Congratulations to those who made it into round 2!
Are we allowed to talk about our egg if we're out of the contest?
Pretty sure you can if you're already out...though I wanted to ask. How many rounds are there in total?
Some gorgeous eggs in the contest! Mine didn't make it to round 2, but I didn't expect it to really. Spriting details is a lot harder than it looks, and just trying makes me even more impressed with the entries that actually made it. Hats off to everyone, and good luck!
I agree with Lodre. Also Zerxer, I was looking at previous contests and just wanted to know what number of entries making it into the 1st to 7th place? Is it like the top 50 eggs?
Can't wait for the next round
Quarterfinal (round 3) voting has begun! http://forums.gpx.plus/index.php?showforum=157
There are five polls with 10 entries each, and this time you may only vote for 3 per poll. These will be up until Monday night, three full days.
Only the top 4 from each poll will move on. There are only two more rounds after this one; round 5 will be the finals.
If you lost in a previous round, the http://gpx.plus/contest will say so at the top. If you're still in the running, it will tell you which thread your entry is in.
Good luck!
I just want to thank all people who voted for my egg.
It didnt make it to the 3rd round but I wasn't expecting it to. Actually I was baffled and surprised it made it to round 2. I made it with normal Paint in like 3 minutes, I have no clue how to make the background transparent (I think in Paint you can't) and it was my first ever sprite I have done to any contest or anything.
There were/are so many brilliant works in the contest I thought my egg wouldnt stand a chance. So again, thank you everyone who voted on it.
This is the egg
Semifinal (round 4) voting has begun! http://forums.gpx.plus/index.php?showforum=157
There are four polls with 5 entries each, and this time you may only vote for 1 per poll. These will be up until Thursday night, three full days.
Only the top 2 from each poll will move on to the finals.
If you lost in a previous round, the http://gpx.plus/contest will say so at the top. If you're still in the running, it will tell you which thread your entry is in.
Good luck!
I feel you Kazuchan, I was surprised I made it to round 3. What's even more surprising is I was so close to making it to round 4 as well. Ah well. Pretty sure I know whose going to win though.
Thanks to everyone who voted for my egg!
It's hard to believe I made it to round 3, especially with everyone else's awesome eggs.
This was my entry!
(I just love Rowlet.)
Have no idea if we're allowed to post eggs that didn't go any further here or not but...here's my entry:
The final round is upon us! http://forums.gpx.plus/index.php?showtopic=74218
There is a single poll with the top 8 entries, and this time you may of course only vote for 1 entry. This poll will be up until Sunday night, three full days.
Information about prizes will be revealed later.
If you lost in a previous round, the http://gpx.plus/contest will say so at the top. If you're still in the running, it will tell you which thread your entry is in.
Good luck to the top 8!
Well I made it to the finals! Good luck everyone left in the running. So far, looks like I'm on for a good top 5 finish
Well, when I went to bed I was eight votes short of the final, but alas, good things can't last forever! I was honoured to have made it as far as I did, considering I haven't sprited for quite some time and I threw up my egg in photoshop without so much as a theme. All I knew was I wanted it to be on fire, then I pixelled in the mountains afterwards.
Oh General Ironwood, your egg is lovely! I'm honestly surprised it didn't make it to the final.
This is the egg I made, I based it on Norwegian rosemaling, which is kind of my favorite thing ever... Maybe I would've gotten farther by making something more recognizable
I also wish I'd done more with the shading and such, but oh well. Making it to round three is still an ego boost for me ^^
The contest is now over! Prizes will be handled later this week when I have more time, but for now...
Congratulations again to our final 8!
Coming in 1st is Sleeppari's design;
sharing 2nd place are designs by Rua and Aether;
and the remaining 5, sharing 3rd place, are designs by irisidium, Lovelybones0, Bonnie Clyde, Lhancat, and Sam.
All 8 of these, as well as the remaining entries, can be seen in their placements here: http://gpx.plus/design-eggstravaganza-contest
Note that they are not sorted by the number of votes received in each round.
congrats everyone!
on a sidenote, is there any way we could get one of these events more than once a year? I love seeing the community's creativity come out, and it'd help keep the site alive a bit
This was my design thank you for everyone who voted for it. I haven't sprited in a long long time and getting back into art, so I'm really happy with how far it had gone. Concept based off Fabergé Eggs
Congratulations to Sleeppari, Rua, Aether and the rest of the finalists
Congrats everyone! That last round was tough, several of the eggs had been top picks of mine for the entire contest.
Congratulations to all of those who tried their creative hands and went from one round to the next! Those were incredible designs and you should all be proud of what you had done!
Kudos to all of those in the Top 3! I am happy to say that I had supported ALL of those designs at one time or another (obviously, sometimes, more than once LOL).
I've said it before and I'll say it again. GPX+ has awesome membership whose talent is incredible! And for those that didn't advance past the first round - I hope you know that you still did something worth bragging about. Some of us (cough *me* cough) didn't even try, but you all did. That's awesome!! I hope you pat yourselves on the back for your efforts and continue to work on them for the next time (as, I'm sure, there will be a next time).
Definitely pumped to hear about the prizes.
Congratulations everyone on your talent! I hope we can do this more often ^^
I'm happy to see who won... To be honest, I'd been rooting for that one from the beginning, though I've kind of been rooting for everyone
Here's hoping that we get to do this more often, I enjoyed it immensely.
Prizes have been distributed!

For this contest's scratch cards, we've got Lucky Scramble, a new design by Volmise.
Wow, that's really cool that the winner's egg is "official". Great prizes for all rounds. Thanks for holding the contest!
Really liking the prizes and holy, it's nice that they made the egg official! Floral Togepi? Can't wait to see the design!
The prizes are amazing, even for last places like me!
"The egg design made by the grand prize winner, Sleeppari, has been used for a brand new Novelty Pokémon"
this is what I was hoping would happen but i didn't think it would actually come true lol olordy
The grand prize winner becoming an official site sprite is AWESOME! Congrats again Sleeppari!
I'm half-tempted not to use all my scratch cards because I love the art so. Shiny smeargles which I love, and that poor little togepi fleeing the torchic with the paintbrush! "Nuuuuu, I don't want to be painted!"
How do you use the scratch cards?
There's a link to 'Scratch Cards' in the updates section at the top of the site. Just next to the bit about prizes distributed, actually.
Thank you, so what do these do?
The instructions are on (and under) the card; click it to activate it, then click and drag to scratch the card and reveal prizes. Just like a real scratch card :p You immediately receive any items you see. You can refresh the page to use another card until you run out of them.
Sounds good for me. Nice and yet have scratch cards soon.
