Do you spend lots of time coming up with a unique username that you think no one else has? Have you ever been disappointed to find out that it has already been taken?

Well, I have. Many times, actually. Especially on sites that are really popular and have lots of users.
I think the two websites that have frustrated me the most are Deviantart and Ragnarok Online. Pretty much all the usernames that I come up with are taken. I look up those usernames and most of the time I find people who have signed up with those usernames, have left their account empty and unused. I mean, "WHY?"

So what usernames have you guys come up with before, only to find that it has already been taken?

DeviantArt is the only place I've been where ALL my usual usernames were taken.

That means Darkrow, Krow, Kapptain-Krow, Redkrow, Royalkrow, Grizzo, Devon, Draven and Kapptain were ALL taken.

So I used Colorful-Blackbird, which is one of my RP characters' name and it worked. 'Twas a pain to sign up there.

Haven't had any problems with other sites, including this place.

Well, the username I have now was the username I made up when I played maplestory a long, long time ago. Everyone would always start out with a username you think was the best username in the world, but when you start seeng it almost everyday, you have the need to change it. When I try to make up a new username it turns out to be taken and it depresses me, but when I try 'iShawtyx3' to see if it's taken, it's never taken! It's weird but I think this username is solely mine

The only time I ever had trouble with usernames is when I was signing up for neopets when I was a lad.

before duder5000 i was always hypershadow1000 (my friend takes that name now...) then it was taken on pokemon crater, so duder5000, then on neopets (hate neopets now!) both were taken... (playing sonic heroes then) omaga123... spelled omega wrong though... tppcrpg (stupid) duder5000 was mine, then i was hacked, made duder5001, thats the backup name now

I used to have that problem all the time, but now I've made Fantasmically my regular username, and it's never taken. I'm not sure why, though. It almost sounds like an actual word and all.

Used to see that all the time when I'd use other unoriginal usernames but now that I have a unique one I never have that problem anymore.

Well, sometimes. This normally only happens when I come up with something generic, like "EmoQueen666", "Username", "Guest", or something along those lines.

Yes. All the bloody time on this site. I desperately want to change my name to Kinkajou or Kinkajouu, and BOTH of those have been taken - even though I can only find a person named Kinkajouu (I've been searching to see who's taken those names =P). So I have no idea who's had Kinkajou =| But it really annoys me XD

I've had it happen a few times, but my names are pretty unique, so I usually don't have a problem signing up for accounts.

Though when I used to play Neopets, it irked me to no end when all the names I came up with (either for a username or a pet) were taken. And it's flattering to have another person copy my usual usernames sometimes. It makes you think they're posing as you because they think you're cool. But still annoying.

It doesn't happen often, since I only go on a few select sites.

But, back in my horrid mapling days, It was quite frequent. I was a weeaboo, and wanted to use "Sakura" or "Kawaii" in my name.
Then...one day, I used "Konfuzzled." After that, I never had a problem with usernames. Probably because I don't like numbers in my usernames.

Ugh. This one, I thought was gold. And it is, for most sites. But on YouTube, AIM, and Twitter, someone already snagged it.

Weirdly, Halfwit isn't often taken, despite the fact that.. it's a normal word, no numbers or anything. I seem to have more luck with it than with other things. Though the fact that I don't have a single online handle anyway.. probably helps.
Well, doesn't help for remembering what my username is wherever I go, but still.

Icicle has been taken in a few places I've gone to since taken a liking to this name.. if all else fails I go for PunkTenshi, Mizuxhime, or other variations of the names xD;

I had some difficulties before because I didn't know what username to get. I would always get something to the line of Fired_Angel, JollyAngel, FriedAngel... then I adopted Nichaling. And I never have any difficulties with this username =0 If I ever go on another site and find out someone else has the username.... I'll ask myself some questions.

This issue is exactly the reason I have my current username. I wanted to switch from Kazz because there's many people with "kazz-like" names on here. I really like the Ace Attorney series and had planned on changing my name to Godot. Low and behold it's taken, but the worse part is that the user joined on July 30th and has never visited gpx/gts since then. I later decided to try Kanon (Wild Arms 2) but that was taken as well. The name Izzy Swag is completely unrelated to any video game. I'll probably end up going back to Kazz if it's not taken when I'm able to change again.

I've had a problem with it on just about every site I've joined. It made me whack my head on my keyboard a few times. I was pretty tempted to use that as a method to pick a name at one point, actually...

I don't remember all of the names I wanted to use for each site, but I can safely say that I'm content with my current set of names. I still change/switch names now and then, though, because I'm indecisive and get bored with the same old thing easily... It's annoying, even for me.
