This is an emergency.
The government is planning on doing something to stop piracy and illegal downloads. And by doing that, they will be taking away ALL OF YOUR INTERNET PRIVACY. They will watch everything you download, EVERYTHING They will make sure nothing is against the "Government Policy" They will document EVERYTHING you do online. You will have no privacy at all This is very urgent and wrong. To help stop this, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. Post a DeviantART journal, a news article, put it on facebook, myspace, twitter, youtube, and any other website you use. THIS IS NOT SPAM OR CHAINMAIL, THIS IS THE HONEST TRUTH!! WE MUST STOP THIS. WE MUST HAVE PRIVACY! -------------------- CLICK MY ROBOT POKEMON ARMY OR ELSE!!!!!! My icon was made by MelNathea on DeviantART My DeviantART account Water types are weak against Fire types if they use Thunder as armor. Flareon can use dive and aim for the horn. Then finish it off with False Swipe although it may faint if it uses Endure...but thats just because everyone knows Arbok evolves into Seviper |

lmao.
If they didn't want it anyway, why do people still do it. I would still go out and buy the CD even IF I download it. I only download stuff for iPod, and I'm WAY too lazy to put it onto a CD. -------------------- Don't forget to love yourself. I don't care if the government knows what kind of porn I'm looking at. I've always assumed that they did know what I was doing. Then again, I also assumed that satellites from space were monitoring me when I go outside. I guess I'm paranoid like that.
The only things I download illegally are Roms for old Nintendo consoles (I don't have the computer power for gamecube games to run at full speed), Photoshop, and Audiosurf. I guess anime fansubs might count as illegal. I still buy CD's. MP3 files are overpriced, and they're often in poor quality. I guess that makes me an audiophile? I still download pirated music for all the music games I play, or if I am unable to find the CD that I want to buy. If this does become reality, maybe I can see my youngest brother get into trouble. The guy is addicted to illegal downloads and completely filled my fathers laptop with a bunch of games he never plays, and other nonsense. He must be punished! UPDATE:
This is ACTA who is going to stop piracy, WHICH ISN'T A BAD DEAL BUT HERES THE CATCH. THIS IS NOT ABOUT PIRACY. THIS IS ABOUT PRIVACY. Everyone on a computer will be monitored of their progress. No more privacy at all for anybody. NOPE. - ISPS will now watch what you download, and tattle on you if you download a music track/ any data / rapidshares / torrents etc. - ISPS will tattle on you, when you do anything which goes against "Governments policy". - ISPS will be able to document and store EVERYTHING you do online. nothing will ever be private again -- Potential border searches are covered by the "Border Measures" proposal of ACTA. As of February 2009 and according to University of Ottawa law professor Michael Geist there is significant disagreement among countries on this topic: "Some countries are seeking the minimum rules, the removal of certain clauses, and a specific provision to put to rest fears of iPod searching customs officials by excluding personal baggage that contains goods of a non-commercial nature. The U.S. is pushing for broad provisions that cover import, export, and in-transit shipments."[42] Newspaper reported that the draft agreement would empower security officials at airports and other international borders to conduct random ex officio searches of laptops, MP3 players, and cellular phones for illegally downloaded or "ripped" music and movies. Travellers with infringing content would be subject to a fine and may have their devices confiscated or destroyed. -- "Canadian officials travel to Guadalajara, Mexico this week to resume negotiations on the still-secret Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. The discussion is likely to turn to the prospect of supporting three strikes and you’re out systems that could result in thousands of people losing access to the Internet based on three allegations of copyright infringement. Leaked ACTA documents indicate that encouraging the adoption of three-strikes - often euphemistically described as “graduated response” for the way Internet providers gradually send increasingly threatening warnings to subscribers - has been proposed for possible inclusion in the treaty." -- No. I know nobody is going to want this. So what can you do? You can start by spreading the word. This isn't some chain mail, this is serious. They're going to monitor EVERYONE AND THEIR PRIVACY WILL BE GONE. And I don't want to log into my computer and see that someone is watching me. Big Brother is always watching and seeing what you do. You can not avoid it. They can hack into your computer at anytime. They can tap your phones at anytime. They have the power, we don't. I'm not shocked they're going to try to monitor illegal downloads. It makes perfect sense to me. In fact they could be reading this very thread right now. 0w0

When that happens there will be no internet at all! I mean all 97 percent of the people who use the internet download Illegal stuff, so pretty much three million or so people will use the internet out of the hundred million and google will loose all profit.

You realise that there are people who also host their own torrents, right? Like the site I just downloaded off of. Since they're not making a profit, it would be unreasonable to take them down. They could "block" it - but people would get angry, protest, and, of course, find a way around it. I mean, look at the piracy protection on HG/SS roms. It was fixed in what? Two weeks?

Illegal sites like limewire and torrents have been around for years and the government's known about them, yet they're still up. Everybody uses them because iTunes/Amazon/Napster/every other music site rips you off for what you get. I rarely download from iTunes these days, I either buy a full CD or I rip music off of Youtube. That's the only "illegal" thing I do.
And I doubt the government is going to start just now with monitoring computers. They've always had the ability, why start now? -------------------- [align=center]I am the earth-mother, and you are all flops.

I don't see what the big deal is really, I google images and when I find ones I like I save them to my computer so I can GIMP them later. I wouldn't really call that illegal, but I guess some would. I actually support the internet watching, think about it.
You have a 3 year old daughter, and she loves going and visiting your 50 year old male neighbor. You borrow his computer one day, and find a lot of inappropriate pictures of children on it. If the government had been watching, the guys butt would be in jail already and your daughter would never have been so attatched leaving you wondering what he (if anything) had done to your daughter. I don't download music/movies but I do go to youtube often. The main reason for this is movie rental places requires you to PAY to watch the movie ONE time and some of them don't even work. We have a family video in the nearest big town to us, they let you rent childrens movies for free. (COOL!) Or so I thought, NONE of the movies worked, and I had promised my daughter that she would get to watch The Fox and the Hound 2 (i think that's the name.) If you don't want your privacy taken, its your own fault for knowingly breaking the law. How will spreading the word prevent this? All spreading the word will do is let people know they are being watched so they can find a back-door to avoid being caught. I'm fairly certain I just made a few people dislike me, but I don't care. I would rather have the government watch my neighbors activity so that he won't have a chance to fondle my daughter. (My greatest fear). I don't have a neighbor, and my daughter is only (almost) 1. But these are some things I hope NEVER happens to us in the future. -------------------- I try to click back every click, I also click all your Pokemon/eggs with the right fruit (if listed) as well as any changes through out the day. I add back if I see that you added me to your pal-pad, and I always click my friends first!

Is downloading music off of megavideo.com illegal? Downloading music without paying is illegal. So, yes. As for everything else, it's all been said by the others. Really? I'm on Limewire right now. So I'm bad? I need to pay for this? Well anyway, if they do monitor EVERYONE, the extreme number of people who use the internet will give then headaches. They'll never catch EVERYONE. And even if they do, the pirates (yes, I call them pirates) work off the Net, too. Here in my place you can go to a certain place and buy all sorts of pirated DVDs in good quality. Really popular place, nobody ever catches them unless they use those major machines that can pirate several DVDs at a time. And it might not even be true; we have gmng24's link. The only thing I use Megaupload for is watch anime that are underrated, but even if that's gone there are thousands of anime sites to watch off...
And I'm not doing anything bad on the Net. Unless Limewire is bad. Then again I haven't seen an artist, recording studio or even the government ever sue Limewire. So yeah. -------------------- Might return to activity sometime soon. I have to get back to GPX, too...

My internet privacy's been compromised already with the company that provides us with broadband after introducing a three strikes scheme for each time they supposedly catch you illegally downloading something. Yet I still download stuff, mainly shows and movies, and haven't been given a single strike yet.
Plus the scumbags already cut us off from browsing Piratebay.org, which was a real blow to the amount of pirating I'd usually do... -------------------- Software engineer by day. Hermit writer by night. nothing is impossible chasing a super hero on the run |
