I don't think Pidgey was a pain for me, from what I remember I got it rather quickly. Sadly task 10 is a big pain. Only about 3 more hours until the shop changes items and then I can hope I get my item I need.

The item should be in the shop at 6 pm today, and if for some unlucky reason it's not...then 6 am tomorrow morning it will have to be in there(Of course there is still a chance it wont be). Regarding the battle item "complaints", that why you stock up with at least of 10 of every item, cuz you never know what an exploration task can ask for :P

Well not everyone has points to throw around like that. For me I don't use them in the VS Seeker so I have no use for them. I don't really want to waste points on something and never use it. If I had a lot of points then sure, but at the moment I have 23,000(I had like nothing when starting the exploration). The Item is in the shop now, so it's all good.
