Anyone else find it disturbing that they took out Viridian Forest and replaced it with a maze of trees with no patches of grass? I'm not sure if they did it because they couldn't fit enough data into the game or not but I do feel sad that they took it out. Do you think that the game developers should have still tried to find a way to keep it in?

Well, we already had a forest in Johto.
I think that around that time, all of the bugs could sense that you could stomp them, and the trainers were hiding because OH GOD IT'S THE POKELEAGUE CHAMP. But really I think they just didn't want to bother. Maybe they'll put it back in for HG/SS. -------------------- Hello. My name is Pan and I'm a pokemon addict. I love Flaaffy and ANYTHING Flaaffy. I never thought about it, but bugs hiding from you makes an awful lot of sense. -------------------- Water. Earth. Fire. Air. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. ....Wait, what?!

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed that they took it out in GSC. I kinda didn't miss it all that much though, since there were still plenty of other places to go to. Luckily, it's back in HGSS.

Luckily, it's back in HGSS. thats good i was hoping they did that. i see what you guys are saying about why they took it out but then shouldn't they have done the same with Rock Tunnel? i mean they did shorten Mt. Moon too but still. it wouldve been nice to at least see a shortened version of Viridian Forest. -------------------- |

I'm sure it has to do with space on the cartridge... it was their first and only time trying to get two regions in the same game, and there has to be a reason they didn't do it later on:/
The DS-cartridges had more space, so they could put them back in. -------------------- Uxie Anitarig Daisuke Weasley Sceptile Rika |

I remember hearing once somewhere taht in the actual story they cut the Viridian Forest to make it easier for travelers not to get attacked by wild Pokemon in the forest, so they ended up chopping everything down. Or something along those lines.

Or something along those lines. But the trees are still there. Its just the grass that's missing, and Pokčmon are hiding in the grass around it. -------------------- Uxie Anitarig Daisuke Weasley Sceptile Rika |

It was do to memory problems. That being said, I would like the real Kanto, not the fake one in HG SS.

It was do to memory problems. That being said, I would like the real Kanto, not the fake one in HG SS. Exactly, I went through all the ROM maps, and they did not have enough room, yet they keep a crapload of unused beta maps such as the unused safari zone and early lake of Rage map, considering that the remakes of GSC, being HG/SS, have more memory because technology has vastly improved since 1999 when the GSC games were made, they managed to keep Viridian forest in because the ROM is capable of storing 50x more data than a ROM of GSC, I know this stuff because I am a ROM hacker on the Pokecomunnity forums.... -------------------- CLICK MY ROBOT POKEMON ARMY OR ELSE!!!!!! My icon was made by MelNathea on DeviantART My DeviantART account Water types are weak against Fire types if they use Thunder as armor. Flareon can use dive and aim for the horn. Then finish it off with False Swipe although it may faint if it uses Endure...but thats just because everyone knows Arbok evolves into Seviper |

I found that strange as well. Maybe over the few years since Red's days the forest just got smaller and smaller due to the expanding world and the need for trees to build houses and buildings. It is rather disturbing that such a famous forest seemed to have all but vanished.

I'm glad that it makes a return, but I do wonder if Kanto will only extend to Kanto, and not the islands that were added on in the third generation. Sometimes I think the Pokemon timeline (and there is one, I'm sure) is more messed up than the infamous Zelda timeline.
Probably means we'll have to pretend that the Sevii Islands don't exist, even though as Red we discovered them already. Oh well. Poor Viridian Forest... ;_; Also, regardless of how powerful your Pokemon are, I think the average Trainer could stomp on a Bug Pokemon no matter what. It's not like they're HUMONGOUS or anything. They're bugs. -------------------- |
