It says they are active but it's still using my flame orb/ sweet honey from my inventory. So just wondering if it was a glitch and whatnot that's just affecting me

You can see in the update thread that others have reported it as well, so no, it's not just you. I imagine staff have probably gone to sleep by now and it'll likely be fixed in the morning when they wake up.
