Okay, I posted this in another thread as a reply. However, since the Second Generation forums are not all that active I have decided to put this as a thread.
First of all, 2nd generation games' Internal Battery dies sooner than the first gen. because of the clock and among other things, and it drops the Internal Battery's life for a couple of years. However the games' battery can be recharged By following this instructions that I found. The game being fix is Silver, but it is the same thing with Gold and Crystal, and maybe with the 1st gen. games. Note: Instead of colouring important text, I decided to put them in *'s because of the different colour skins in the site. Fixing Internal Battery (click to show ) Hope this helps. My Crystal game will probably need it's battery replaced soon, as the internal clock has stopped working. For the time being I'm still able to save. Luckily, this is the first game where I've managed to catch both Suicune and the red Gyarados, so even if this is my last play through I feel like I've done pretty good so far. ^^
I'll keep this in mind. Most likely I won't go thorugh the trouble when my game does die, but it is nice to know that you can do this yourself. This should definately be stickied. -------------------- |

I read a similar thread on a different site before, but, it wasn't as detailed as this one. Thanks for the info.

This would mean fixing the "not being able to save and turn back on" thing, right?

I'm a little worried about my Pokemon games dying
I still have my first Gold game from when I was like 6. The battery works, everything still works great after ten years. Hopefully I will never have to do this. If I do I'll probably just end up getting it fixed by Nintendo xD Thanks for posting this though c: -- Oh nevermind I looked through the website and they no longer fix anything before Gamecube anymore. That bites :C Guess if they die I'll have to learn how to fix these xD -------------------- |

Wow. I must try this for myself when the time comes.
Thankfully, I reset all my games beforehand, so I ain't losing anything. Ah, the joys of being a pokénub back in the day of the second generation... |

Wha? I've had my Pokemon Yellow for years. What's the internal battery? Just looks at the images, and if you have either Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald, you can also see the battery. --------------------

o: I so should have known about this when my Crystal died (there went 3 shinies, if not counting Gyarados D : !)
I didn't even know this could happen until it did. First, the clock died, then I asked my friend (who knows everything about these), if he could replace the battery. But before I had time to move my pokemon away it just died ): Aww life's hard Ah well, my friend got it done, and now it has some kind of old battery of a thinkpad's laptop, looked exactly similar to the red version's battery o: Wonder how long it will last.. But thank you I shall get this to my favourites and change battery for Silver, too. Or then I'll just make my friend do that again By the way: How long does the blue/fire's battery keep the (blue/red) game playing? Do any of you know if they need replacement yet? -------------------- |

I'm not sure if it even runs out on the gen 1 games does it? I've had my Red version for years. I had Gold too but I sold it so I have no way of knowing whether it still works or not... (kind of regret that I did...it was awesome) If I still had it and it ran out maybe I could ask my dad to help me fix it:B

Green, Red, and Blue still have plenty of life in them Especially if you don't often play them. --------------------

Sorry for bumping up this topic, but I've just replaced the internal battery of my Crystal copy this afternoon and it works perfectly fine again. I've made it so that in future cases I can easely replace the battery too, with a simple battery holder construction.
