Ability: Natural Cure: Status Conditions are cured when withdrawn from battle.
Weaknesses: Bug 4x, Dark 2x, Fire 2x, Flying 2x, Ghost 2x, Ice 2x, Poison 2x
Resistances: Electric 0.5x, Fighting 0.5x, Grass 0.5x, Ground 0.5x, Psychic 0.5x, Water 0.5x
Stats: 100 HP, 100 Atk, 100 Def, 100 Spd, 100 SAtk, 100 SDef
Tier: Overused

*UPDATE 8/9/08*
Standard
Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power [Ice] / Psychic
- Recover
- Leech Seed / Thunder Wave / Stealth Rock / U-Turn

New Standard. Defensive set, grass knot destroys gyara/ttar. HP Ice is for garchomp but in general is a solid attacking type. The last slot depends on what you need. Leech Seed is generally nice because it supports the whole team and laughs at blissey. T-Wave is if you need para support and works because most pokemon who are immune to thunder wave don't wanna stay in against celebi anyway and also cripples things like gyara/heatran/gengar or whatever. Stealth Rock is an amazing support move in general and celebi learns it. U-Turn is mostly used for scouting.

Psychic should only be used if you are really scared of hera/machamp or something and can't get Hidden Power. Speed EVs get you to 244 which beat jolly tyranitar

Moveset 1: Heal Bell Cleric
Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Def / 44 Spd / 40 SAtk / 96 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Heal Bell
- Leech Seed
- Psychic / Grass Knot
- Recover

Celebi, as a pokemon in general, is a team player most of the time. This is a great support set for it, as celebi can help heal status for your team, not only with it's natural cure ability for itself, but with heal bell, it can heal your whole team of status. Leech Seed supports your team and can cause switches with the opponents team, especially if they switch in Blissey or Snorlax, trying to wall your special attacks, while you tap into their seemingly limitless HP stat for your own benefit and laugh at their attacks. Recover lets you last even longer. Psychic vs Grass Knot can depend on what your team needs. Psychic is a more solid attacking type, and can hit salamence and heracross on the switch in harder, while grass knot hits weavile, and hits Ttar for super effective damage, although sandstream almost negates that.

These Evs give you 404 HP, solid defenses and enough speed to always outspeed tyranitar, and beats bulky gyarados to the punch as well.

However, Celebi is a very flexible pokemon, and it should be noted that you can change the Evs to your preference, or based on whatever works for your team.

Moveset 2: Calm Mind Baton Passer
Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Baton Pass
- Psychic
- Recover

Baton Passing Celebi, yet another example of how versatile of a supporter Celebi can be. It is probably one of the best Bpers in the game with his balanced stats and durability. This Celebi has 308 speed, enough to beat Adamant Garchomp and any pokemon with 90 base speed (Lucario, PorygonZ, etc.) with a +speed nature, without scarf of course. You will also outspeed any non scarf heracross. While celebi can’t pass nasty plots to a ridiculous special sweeper and help sweep in 2 turns, the great thing about calm mind is that anything that can take a hit can appreciate the special defense boost and use it well. Also, Baton pass helps protect celebi against nasty pursuiters like weavile and tyranitar. If you outspeed said pursuiter, they will hit celebi with the weakened, 40 base power of it. If you are faster, they hit the pokemon coming out. Baton Pass can also be used to scout for what your opponent sends out to fight celebi, even without any bonuses. Yet another point for Baton Pass is that it is virtually uncounterable by the definition of “counter” in pokemon, since if something threatens celebi’s immediate safety, you can baton pass away.

Moveset 3: Swords Dance Baton Passer
Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Baton Pass
- Aerial Ace / Return
- Recover

Same as the Calm Mind Bper, except with swords dance. Unlike the CM passer, only certain pokemon will really care about getting dances passed to them. Also, other pokemon such as Gliscor can do this job better than celebi, with their bigger physical movepools, and without an annoying pursuit weakness. Celebi still has nice resistances and balanced stats to do this job however, not to mention that it’s unexpected. Celebi can’t benefit much from the swords dance either, seeing as how its only worthwhile physical attacks are Aerial Ace and Return or Frustration, which have the exact same base power at their respective optimum conditions.

Moveset 4: Leech Seed + Calm Mind staller
Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 148 Def / 40 Spd / 70 Sdef (Bold) / 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 Spd (Timid)
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) / Timid Nature (+Spd, –Atk)
- Leech Seed
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Psychic / Energy Ball

Celebi is….durable. Very durable. This set will last a long time if you play it smart (read: not switching into heracross megahorn or attempting to set up on weavile). The extra defense is so you can survive random physical attacks, since calm mind will boost your special defense. This set will outright beat last pokemon blissey if you seed and set up on it. Seismic toss will do next to nothing with leech seed, and your Calm Minds combined with Blissey’s mediocre (if you’re optimistic) special attack will make sure you win. When you get a sufficient amount of CMs, you can beat down blissey ruthlessly as you remain untouchable with leech seed, and then your opponent will quickly realize how quickly softboiled’s 10(16 with PP ups) PP will go down the drain as you beat that egg at her own game. This celebi was damned good in advance, and while the introduction of weavile and physical.

The second nature and spread is more of a quicker, more offensive spread for outright sweeping however, in DP this is not recommended because of things like random choice scarves, heatran, etc that will just beat you down and completely stop you in your tracks, but if you have a fun team and are feeling brave enough to go for it, then more power to you.

Moveset 5: Leech Seed staller / Subseed
Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Psychic
- Recover / Baton Pass

Another Leech Seed set, except you substitute and keep stalling behind it. Works better against pokemon that are slower than you like Tyranitar, Metagross, and Blissey. It’s similar to leech seed sceptile, except celebi is slower and has better defenses, and 404 HP substitutes just to show how much you love Blissey. Recover can make you last even longer than should be legal, but Baton Pass can help spread the substitute love, and help out against stupid Weavile and Choice Scarf Heracross. Psychic is the only option on this set, and is recommended because psychic hits the grass types that leech seed doesn’t affect,

Moveset 6: Choice
Celebi @ Choice Specs / Choice Scarf
Trait: Natural Cure
Evs: 6 HP / 252 Satk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) / Modest (+Spd, -Atk)
- Psychic
- Energy Ball / Leaf Storm
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting] / Hidden Power [Fire] / Hidden Power [Ice] / Charge Beam

For a change of pace, you can use choice item celebi to go on the offensive. Energy Ball is for consistent power, Leaf Storm is more hit and run, which tends to be the nature of choice sets anyway. Hidden Power Fighting is recommended for Tyranitar / Weavile. Fire hits Weavile, heracross, and metagross hard, but if you are on wifi, where getting a celebi is hard enough, much less one with the correct HP, then charge beam is an option for gyarados, skarm, and other random fliers. Obviously this isn’t the best use of Celebi’s talents, but it’s certainly an option. Also, Timid is recommended for specs, while Modest fits best with the fashionable choice scarf.

Other Options:

Celebi is very versatile, and has many other useful options. Grass Knot is alternate grass STAB however, it isn’t worth using over Energy Ball because of it’s inconsistency, and Swampert is scared of Celebi anyway, even without a grass move, and you have no business getting walled by Manaphy like you would if you used Grass Knot. Giga Drain’s PP is too low and you already have enough healing between leech seed and recover anyway, not to mention it’s pretty weak too.

Reflect is probably one of the best moves for Celebi this generation, since it protects against physical pursuit and other physical threats, and supports the team. U-turn is also a good physical option for celebi for fighting the pursuiters that oppress him so, but if you are faster than the pursuiter (Metagross, Tyranitar), then it hits you as if you were switching out for double damage so it’s recommended that U-turn have its own specialized set however, remember pokemon is a team game.

Celebi also gets some electric moves too, in the form of Charge Beam, Shock Wave, and Thunder Wave. Charge Beam is good against gyarados, and the special attack boosts can be passed off, so it’s a decent option. Shock Wave always hits however, if you’re looking for just something to hit gyarados with. Thunder Wave is a new addition to Celebi’s movepool, and Weavile will hate hate hate you if it gets para’d, though heracross will thank you for the guts boost. These moves would be more viable if Celebi didn’t already need his 4 moveslots, plus Celebi can usually BP away from whatever threatens it anyway.

Celebi also gets Stealth Rock, and it certainly has the durability to do so, however, Celebi has better things to do with its ridiculous movepool, and other pokemon can use stealth rock as effectively, if not more since Celebi has so many more options it can support the team with.

The floating head o lettuce also has Perish Song if you have a specialized Trappassing team, and it also guarantees you the game if you have more than one pokemon left at the end, but everything hits so much harder in DP, the viability of perish song is questionable.

Celebi can also be a decent and unexpected user of trick room with his durability for a trick room team.

Evs:

Celebi can be flexible with Evs. You can give him 404 HP with 252 Evs in that stat. Speed is pretty flexible. You can go for 244 speed (32 Evs) to beat Jolly Tyranitar, 247 (44 Evs) to beat no speed Mismagius, which is pretty rare, and bulky gyarados who sometimes goes for 244 as well however, 247 also outspeeds slow base 100s as well, like a bulky zapdos. 305 is another useful threshold to hit to outspeed Adamant Garchomp. You will never outspeed Jolly Garchomp, however, and it’s usually best to Baton Pass away from these counters anyway. The rest of the Evs can go into whatever defense you want.

Opinion:

Celebi was almost banished to ubers in advance, but the introduction of harder hitting threats, and physical pursuit cement it into OU. Celebi has some fun new things to toy around with in DP, with better grass STAB, stealth rock, thunder wave (which it couldn’t learn in advance), and to a certain extent, U-turn. Celebi is an excellent support pokemon and is very durable with a movepool that turns certain pokemon green with envy. Quite frankly, celebi is probably my favorite pokemon, if not one of them in the game, ever since using it in Advance. It’s really worth trying out, although it is very hard to get for wi-fi usage.

Counters:

Yikes. Tyranitar and weavile switch into psychic without fear and pursuit you. Although Tyranitar is weak to your grass moves, his special defense boost in sandstorm means you won’t do a whole lot. In addition, DDTar can taunt you and you basically lose almost all your options after taunt, and he can set up. Metagross can switch into any of your moves, resisting energy ball and double resisting psychic and can also pursuit you to hell. Aerodactyl is also a pest, always outspeeding you and it can also pursuit or use it’s flying STAB (Aerial Ace) or Ice Fang. Scizor, like metagross also resists your attacks and hits you with a strong pursuit. Not only that, but scizor carries bug STAB, and can u-turn to nullify leech seed and kill you, or break your substitute.Heracross can switch in (although it hates psychic) and pursuit or megahorn you.

Skarmory comes in on pretty much anything without getting scratched. and can set up spikes or stealth rock on you. Unlike the other counters above which you can usually BP away from, Skarmory can simply whirlwind you and your stat boosts away as well. Dusknoir’s pressure can also really wear down you PP, and leech seed doesn’t really heal a lot for you, but at the same time Dusknoir needs to have a good bit of attack to hurt you, and you can BP away from him. Spiritomb is much the same, except it is immune to psychic and has a STAB pursuit, and can force you to switch with hypnosis if you don’t have a sub up.

Salamence can come in on grass STAB and fire blast/thrower you, or maybe even fire/ice fang if it has it, but a choice specs fire move from mence will kill you. Taunt gyarados needs to be boosted to do any significant damage to celebi with ice fang, but taunt basically kills all your options and he gets to set up on you like tyranitar.

Heatran and Houndoom come in fearlessly and kill you with a ridiculously strong fire STAB, and in the case of houndoom, can nasty plot on the switch.

Blissey and Snorlax take your special attacks, but if you have leech seed they lose, and having max HP + substitute seals blissey’s fate even quicker. Also calm mind makes blissey useless.

Fast taunters in OU like azelf and deoxy-s e can stop the bp set although most azelf with taunt are usually of the suicide lead variety.

Despite the large counter list, Celebi can baton pass away from the majority of them, and is still a very reliable and durable support pokemon.

Mismagisues always run speed, so take that out. Take out the bit about Ramp, since it is mentoined it outspeeds T-Tar which is faster, so people will already know that. Separate the paragraphs to make it look neater

Ice fang is not used by Salamence, You outspeed Heatran, but mention ScarfTran, meantion that a faster taunter can stop Celbi from using Baton Pass and stops the BP sets except for the attacks.

Mention that Grass Knot is inconsistent but it hits some OU for more damage then Energy Ball, which makes it a good move for some Pokemon.

U-Turn imo could be mentioned on the Scarf set to switch out of threats and hurt them as well, eg T-tar

Trick room wouldn't be decent for the onion, because it has a base 100 speed and that by no means is slow.

Mention about the HP EVs, WHY 252 MUST go on stalling sets.

Opinion:

Celebi was almost banished to ubers in advance, but with the introduction of harder hitting moves, and physical pursuit made it stay in OU.

Celebi has some fun new things to toy around with in DP, with better grass STAB, and generally better and more reliable moves.

Celebi is an excellent support pokemon and is very durable with a movepool that turns certain pokemon green with envy. Quite frankly, celebi is probably my favorite pokemon, if not one of them in the game, ever since using it in Advance. It’s really worth trying out, although it is very hard to get a decent one for wi-fi usage

Metagross can switch into any of your moves, resisting energy ball and double resisting psychic and can also pursuit you to hell. Aerodactyl is also a pest, always outspeeding you and it can also pursuit or use it’s flying STAB (Aerial Ace) or Ice Fang. Mostly all pokemon carrying pursuit can counter you.(shortens it)

Skarmory comes in on pretty much anything without getting scratched. and can set up spikes or stealth rock on you. Unlike the other counters above which you can usually BP away from, Skarmory can simply whirlwind you and your stat boosts away as well.
