QUOTE(Irk Splee @ Dec 6 2009, 12:43 AM) (The first draft of this was WAY over the limit... XD;; Cutting stories to match a length limit is painful, it really is. At least I saved the first draft so I can tweak it for quality instead of tweaking it for being too damn long.) Berry Smart Story Entry (click to showhide) “Ya ready, Waffle?” A Spheal sat on an Arcanine's head, his eyes glittering in anticipation. The two were standing on a snow-covered hill on their ranch home. “Yep, Caboose!” the Arcanine replied. “3!” “2!” Caboose continued. “ONE!” the pair yelled in unison before Waffle ran, sending himself and Caboose down the hill. Caboose gripped his friend's ears in order to keep himself steady. The ride only lasted a few seconds before Waffle stumbled over a rock, sending the two Pokemon flying. Caboose landed face first in a pile of snow, but popped out very quickly, not bothered by the cold. “That. Was. AWESOME!” he shrieked. “Wasn't it, Waffle?” “Sure was!” Waffle called out. He had landed on his back in the snow, which was melting around him due to his body heat. “Let's do it again!” “Do what again?” An Absol had come into Waffle's view, her face hovering over his. “Hi, Cass!” Waffle greeted. “You're upside-down.” “Then get up so you can see me properly,” was Cass's response. “What mess are you causing this time?” “It's no big deal!” Caboose said. “We were just body sleddin'!” “Body sledding?” Cass asked. Caboose nodded. “Yep! I sit on Waffle's head and we slide down the hill! It's fun!” “Really,” Cass said, not convinced of the amusement. “More fun than watching the Shinx kits? Like Waffle SHOULD be doing?” “I've got it taken care of,” Waffle said as he stood. “Marie's watching them.” “Marie isn't their guardian, Waffle,” Cass said coolly. “But it's Christmas Eve!” Caboose whined. “Waffle's been working hard all month! He should get to do something other than looking after stupid babies.” “I don't mind the job!” Waffle said quickly. “I just needed a break to play around. They'll be fine. Marie's a good caretaker. Besides, she's a Glaceon, she's suited to be out working in this snow.” “Marie isn't their guardian,” Cass repeated, her voice taking a chill that matched the winter air. “Lighten up, Cassie!” Another voice came into hearing. “I told you not to call me that, Beth,” Cass scolded the Vaporeon that had joined the group. “Yet I do anyway,” was Beth's response. “ Waffle's right about Marie. The Shinx really seem to like her, and she doesn't mind the job. Let the guy have a day off!” “Irk is NOT going to like this,” Cass insisted. “She's gone for Christmas! What's she care?” Beth argued. “Guys, go play! I'll get Cass off your case!” They didn't need to be told twice; both Pokemon ran off, leaving Beth and Cass alone. “Beth, you should stay out of my business-” “Speak for yourself,” Beth said. “It's Christmas! Can't you be happy for once? A lot of the others are. I've been handing out gifts today. Julien got a mirror, Grif got some candy, Lydon got a disco ball...” “Why would you encourage Lydon's music?” Cass asked. “It was on sale. Whenever I saw something I thought somebody would like, I picked it up.” “Did everybody get something?” Cass asked, hope in her voice. “Oh, not EVERYBODY,” Beth said. “But whenever I saw something good, I figured why not?” “I see.” Cass's face fell. “Oh, I did get YOU something!” Beth hurried on. “Why would I leave out the ranch's boss lady?” Before Cass could say anything, whether it was thanks or a comment at being called 'boss lady', Beth had stuck her head in a nearby tree and pulled out a collar. “Poochi showed me how to make these!” Beth said, dropping the collar in front of Cass. The black collar had been fitted with Dusk Stones – the only exception was a Razor Fang hanging in the front. “Do you like it?” Beth asked. “I saw the stones and the fang in the shop. I thought you'd like them.” Cass eyed the collar. “You really made this for me?” she asked. “Really!” Beth chirped. “How'd I do?” “It's... I like it!” For once, Cass allowed happiness to show in her voice. “Thanks so much!” “Merry Christmas, Cassie!” Beth said with a smile. “Go on, find somebody with thumbs to help you put it on!” Cass picked up the collar and ran off to do just that, finally allowing herself to enjoy the holiday. Yea, I'm a writer myself so I agree with the character limit. I think I'll change it to 10,000 for short stories.

(OK, extended version of random Christmas nonsense is go!) My REAL Entry (click to showhide) “All right, Waffle! Ya ready?!”
A Spheal had himself perched atop an Arcanine's head and was facing forward, his eyes glittering in anticipation. The two were standing atop a hill on their ranch home. The hill had been entirely covered in snow, to the point where the grass was only just barely visible in some patches.
“Aye-aye, Caboose!” the Arcanine said in response to the Spheal. “C'mon, let's count down! 3...” “2...” Caboose continued, bracing himself.
“ONE!” the pair yelled in unison. Waffle took a running start until gravity took over, pulling him and Caboose down the snowy hill. Caboose gripped his friend's ears in his flippers in order to keep himself steady as the two screamed in excitement. The ride only lasted for a few blissful seconds, however. Before long, Waffle stumbled over a rock, and thanks to his speed, the two Pokemon were sent flying. The Spheal landed face first into a pile of snow, but popped out very quickly – after all, as an ice-type, he wasn't too bothered by the cold. “That. Was. AWESOME!” he shrieked. “Wasn't it, Waffle?”
“Sure was!” Waffle called out. He had landed on his back in the snow, which was very quickly melting around him due to his extreme body heat. “Once I get up, we're DEFINITELY doing that again!”
“Doing what again?”
An Absol had come into Waffle's view, her face hovering over his.
“Oh, hi, Cass!” Waffle greeted. “Your face is upside-down.”
“Then get up so you can see me properly,” came Cass's simple response. “What destruction are you and Caboose causing this time?”
“Ah, it's no big deal!” Caboose rolled his way over to the two canines. “We were just body sleddin'!”
“Body sledding?” Cass asked, an eyebrow raised.
Caboose nodded enthusiastically. “Yep! I just sit on Waffle's head and he throws himself down the hill! It's fun!”
“Really,” Cass said, not entirely convinced of the amusement factor. “More fun than looking after the Shinx children? Like Waffle SHOULD be doing?”
“Relax, I've got it taken care of,” Waffle said as he pushed himself back to his feet. “Marie's watching them for a bit.”
“Marie wasn't nominated their guardian, Waffle, you were,” Cass said coolly.
“Aw, but it's Christmas Eve!” Caboose whined. “Waffle's been working really hard all month! He should get to do something other than looking after stupid babies.”
“I don't mind the job!” Waffle said quickly in hopes that Caboose's comment wouldn't tarnish his reputation. “It's just, I needed a break to play around for a little bit. The kits'll be fine. Marie's a good caretaker. And besides, she's a Glaceon, she's better suited to be out working in this snow than I am.”
“Marie wasn't nominated their guardian,” Cass repeated, her voice taking a chill that matched the winter air.
“Lighten up, will ya, Cassie?” Another female voice came into hearing.
“I told you not to call me that, Beth,” Cass scolded the young Vaporeon that had joined the group.
“And yet I do anyway,” was Beth's only response. “At any rate, Waffle's right about Marie. The Shinx really seem to like her, and she doesn't exactly mind the job, either. Let the big guy have one day to himself!”
“Irk is NOT going to like this,” Cass insisted.
“She's gone for the next two days! What's she gonna know or care?” Beth argued back. “Caboose, Waffle, go off and play. I'll get Cass off your case.” They didn't need to be told twice; both Pokemon ran off in a random direction, leaving Beth and Cass alone.
“Beth, I do wish you'd stay out of my business-”
“Speak for yourself!” Beth said. “It's Christmas and everyone's just trying to have a good time! Can't you be happy for once?” She had no response for that. “A lot of the others are. I've been handing out gifts today. Julien got a mirror so he can stop staring in the pond at himself all the time... Grif got a giant bag of candy that he's probably going to inhale before the new year... Lydon got a disco ball...”
“Why would you encourage Lydon's obnoxious music?” Cass asked.
“It was on sale. Whenever I saw something I thought somebody would like, I picked it up.”
“I still don't think Lydon needs to be given another reason to play his garbage,” Cass said.
“Well, he's enjoying it, and that's the point of Christmas, isn't it?” Beth said, deflecting Cass's negativity. The Absol decided it best to drop the point.
“Did... everybody get something?” Cass asked hesitantly, trying to hide the hope in her voice, instead hoping it came off as a change of subject.
“Oh, not EVERYBODY,” Beth said. “There's over a hundred others here, and there's a lot of people no one cares about anyway. But whenever I saw something I thought someone would like, I figured, why not?”
“...I see.” Cass's face fell slightly against her will.
“Don't give me that look before you let me finish,” Beth said. “What, you think I didn't get YOU anything? Why would I leave out the ranch's boss lady?” Before Cass could say anything, whether it was thanks or a comment at being called 'boss lady', Beth had stuck her head in a nearby tree. Once she pulled it back out, she was holding a collar in her mouth.
“Poochi showed me how to make these!” Beth explained, dropping the collar in front of Cass. “I like the one she made herself, but Everstones are BORING. I decided to make you something with a bit more punch!” Cass lowered her head to examine her gift. The color was made of a black material that she couldn't identify; possibly something Beth had stolen from Irk's bedroom. A Razor Fang with a hole drilled into it and a thin string tied through the hole was attached to a loop on the collar. The rest of the item was decorated with decently-sized Dusk Stones.
“Go on, take it!” Beth said. “I saw the stones and the fang in the shop. I thought they'd make a really cool collar for ya!”
Cass eyed the collar wordlessly. “You really made this for me?” she finally managed to say after about a minute of trying to get her voice back.
“Really!” Beth chirped. “It's the first collar I ever made, but I still think it came out really good. How'd I do?”
“It's... I like it!” For once, Cass allowed happiness to show in her voice. “Thanks so much!”
“Merry Christmas, Cassie!” Beth said with a smile. “Go on, find somebody with thumbs to help you put it on!”
Cass nodded, picked up the collar in her mouth, and ran off to do just that. She may not have been the most personable Pokemon on the ranch, but for once, her mind wasn't filled with thoughts of who she should be correcting. Instead, she was finally allowing herself to enjoy the holiday.

Here I go with my entry: The bird of Winter (click to showhide) Flora get up really early today. She looked out of the window and saw a bunch of snow everywhere. “Huh? It’s winter again.” – she said. This Sunflora lived in very warm and comfortable cave-like house, with her friends: Philip the Farfetch’D, Paul the Wobbuffet, Gloria the Medicham, Stephan the Snorunt and Luca the Snover. They were best friends, and they were always eager to help each other. Flora didn’t like winter at all. “Hey Flora, wanna go make a Snowman with us?” – Gloria asked her. “No, I will stay here and make us some lunch.” – it was her answer. Everybody was having fun outside, and Flora was just looking trough the window. She sighed. It was like that every day. Once, Philip decided to go and take some woods for fire. One hour past, Philip was still gone. Two hours past – Philip still wasn’t home. Everybody got panicky, and especially Flora. “Oh no, what are we going to do? What if some monster captured him? Some Yeti or something! Or what if he caught in some blizzard? Oh my God, what are we going to do?” – She ran all over the place. “Don’t worry Flora, I’m sure he is ok.” Gloria said to her. 3 hours past and Philip still wasn’t home. Gloria decided to go and look up for him. Stephan wanted to go too, but Gloria stopped him. He was too young. After an hour, Gloria didn’t show up either. Now everybody panicked. “Ok guys, I will go. Paul, take care of everybody.” – Flora said. She stepped out of the cave, and started to walk. She saw some footprints in the snow, so she thought that was Gloria. She followed that trace, but soon it started snowing, so the footprints disappeared. “Oh, no. What am I going to do? I will get lost like they both have.” – She thought. Suddenly, one very strong blizzard started. “I have to find a shelter.” – She thought. She saw many pokemons running everywhere, and few Hoppip’s flying around the place. She saw something light on the sky. “What’s that?” – She thought. She saw it approaching to her. “Am I dying?” – She thought. The light came very close to her. It was something covered in snow. It was flying. A bird covered in snow. “Philip?” – Flora whispered. The light came very close to Flora. It touched her. She could now clearly see who that was. It was a bird. A blue bird. “Is it? Could it be?” – Flora thought. The bird gently touched Flora, and somehow, she was on its back. “I have to be dreaming.” The bird took her to all wonderful places, filled with snow, it took her to places filled with joy, happiness and friendship. The bird showed her Philip and Gloria going home, and how Paul, Stephan and Luca are playing with them. They were happy. Only Gloria was worried. The bird landed and let Flora go to their friends. It was like bird was saying: “Have you seen the joy of winter?” Flora nodded, even if The bird haven’t said anything. The bird showed Flora a picture of pokemons playing in snow and laughing. Flora turned. She saw how everybody was happy. “Flora!” – Gloria yelled and ran to Flora. “I’m so happy to see you.” Flora smiled. Everybody smiled. “We knew you are ok. The bird told us.” – Philip mentioned. “Let’s go.” – Gloria said to her. Flora turned to the bird to see it flying away. It was covered in snow. Flora felt joy and she felt very warm, even if it was December. She looked at the bird. “Thank you. Articuno.” – Flora said while gently looking to the bird and waving to it. Flora then turned to her friends, smiled and run to them. “Hey, what we are waiting for?” – She said and send a snowball to Paul. Paul reflected her and sent it to Stephan. Everybody laughed and kept playing. “This is the best winter I ever had.” – Flora said and smiled happily.

My (rather long) Story (click to showhide)
Abra was just about to settle in for the day, his hours used up. He started to fall asleep, when he heard cries of "Sur, sur sur sur kit! Surrrrr sur kit sur sur!" As though they were singing. Abra got up, and wiped his eyes with his paw, then looked out the windows. Christmas Carolers the realization hit him. It was almost Christmas, and he hadn't gotten anything for anyone yet! That was when the Alakazam of the household walked out, and flicked some change towards the delighted Surskit and walked back in. Abra felt a light blush as she looked at him, but shook his head and decided it was time to hone his teleporting skills.
With a shout of "Abra!" the Pokemon was gone in a bunch of blue stars. Just as quickly as he had disappeared, he had reappeared at an antique shop. He knew he had but a few hours before his trainer returned, so he had to decide quickly. And that is just what he did.
===
~Christmas Morning~
"{Weeee, it's Christmassssssssssss!}" Abra squealed in delight as he went downstairs, to find the others waiting.
"{Ugh. We've been waiting ages! Sheesh.}" Kadabra glared at him.
"{S-sorry...}" Abra sighed, knowing that the Kadabra meant to no harm, but simply had trouble with words.
"Guys, why don't you open your presents?" Their trainer asked, brushing her orange hair out of the way.
"{Yes.}" Alakazam nodded.
"{Yeah!!}" Kadabra grinned.
{Yayyyyy, presents!} Abra almost dove in, looking for his.
===
All the presents had been unwrapped, and their trainer was starting to get up, but realized Abra was missing. "Huh? Hey, A--!" But then she saw the young Pokemon coming downstairs with three boxes messily wrapped in tow.
"{Are those... for us?}" Kadabra gasped.
"{...You didn't have too...}" Alakazam sighed, but then smiled.
Abra handed out the proper present to each one, "{Well, open them!}" Abra grinned.
Kadabra was the first, and gasped "{Oh, it's beautiful!}" at the crystal Ponyta that lay in the box. She gingerly picked it up, and marveled at how she could see through it just barely, and set it and the box down, and turned to Abra, "{Thank you so much!}"
Their trainer was next, "Oh!" unwrapping a book on the development of Poke Balls. "Oh, thanks little guy! You're so smart, you picked out a really good book, not too hard, not too boring..." She flipped through the pages before setting it back down to watch Alakazam unwrap hers.
She gingerly opened it, and stared in surprise, for there was two new spoons! She had desperately needed new ones... Alakazam smiled, "{Thank you.}" Abra blushed at the praise, and was openly grinning.
"Well guys, I think its time for some Christmas-style breakfast!" The trainer got up, and all the Pokemon cheered.
It was definitely a good Christmas. ^-^ You like it?
