August Community Thread!

The July Community thread has been moved http://forums.gpx.plus/index.php?showtopic=74928

If you're new here then don't be shy! The community thread is the place to come and chat with fellow members of the site who share a common interest with you. Talk about whatever you want, whether it's GPX related or something going on in your personal life, just be sure to read the rules first before posting. There's always someone on the forums to read and respond to your posts, so chat away and maybe you'll meet some great people!

RulesMonthly Raffle

Nominations are now gone, and I'm using post count to determine how many entries you have into the raffle. The first 19 posts you have will count as one entry, and every ten after that will count as an extra. Think of it as the first number of your post count is how many entries you have. To see what your post count is, click on the number of replies any certain thread has. Nothing else on the site will influence the amount of entries you receive, so if you'd like a chance to win, then post here frequently!

The raffle is what chooses who gets to choose what's in next month's egg distribution. There are no other site advantages other than that, and even then the whole site gets a chance at that Pokémon that you chose!

August Egg Distribution!

How to get an egg from this eventIMPORTANT EVENT NOTES
  1. No, you do NOT have to be online at the time I am sending out eggs.
  2. These eggs do NOT show up in the Lab for the event. They are sent out randomly.
  3. There is ONE set shiny for each Pokémon, but every other egg has a regular chance of being shiny.
  4. If you obtain ONE of the eggs from this event, you will NOT be able to obtain another one from this same event. This means if you get an egg on day 1 of this event, you can't get an event egg from any other day during this event. By the way, abandoning an event egg does nothing. So if you get one you might as well keep it and be happy.
  5. If we find any accounts being made just to get eggs from the event then they will be immediately banned along with your main.
  6. If you were a winner of the raffle, your chosen Pokémon will be spawned into your party on the day of the event. It won't be forced shiny, but there's always a small chance just like any other egg! This will not count as an event egg and you can still receive one from the event.
  7. There is no guarantee that you'll receive an egg.
  8. Eggs chosen will not be available to pick from again for 3 months. If x egg was in the January egg distribution, then it can not be chosen again until April.
  9. The event runs at 4 p.m. server time.

Happy August, everybody! I'll probably forget yet again, but I'll try for Latias on the 3rd and Lugia on the 5th if I miss out on the former.

Enjoy your SWSH prizes. wink.gif Please breed them so that everyone can get all of them!

Since Moltres is out in Pokémon GO, I hope people have lots of luck with their raids! Don't forget that it's only available for a week before Zapdos shows up in its place. Myself, I'm gonna see about doing a few raids tomorrow and hopefully catching the fire bird.

Posted by: Megatron Jul 31 2017, 11:08 PM

Huh, feels like July just slipped away in the blink of an eye. Hopefully I remember to leave a party spot open for the day Misquaza goes out, don't have one yet and I'm too lazy to summon my own.

Glad I was able to finish my SWSH, even if my Salandit was male.

I wish I could do raids in Go. There was an Articuno really close by on the weekend, but I'd feel really awkward hanging outside a church for an hour plus .-.

Posted by: Alchemists Fire Jul 31 2017, 11:13 PM

I think I'd go for almost any egg this month except the Dofo. Misquaza though <3

Also, did anyone else see the "Old Rod" vouchers in the invo? I'm not sure if those are the SWSH prizes though?

Edit: I saw the mention of the PoGo legendaries - I never even got a chance to join a raid for Articuno, which sucks because I'm Team Mystic. I'm not even sure if I'm going to bother going for the others (don't have a Lugia either). My Pokemon aren't high enough CP to help much, and my game lagged right in the middle of the one Lugia raid I did join, and I couldn't get back into the battle. And of course, there was about one person's amount of damage left when the timer ran out...

Good luck to anyone that does raid =)

They're the SWSH prizes, and you use them for the special Magikarp patterns from Magikarp Jump. I'll be breeding pink and... either gray or brown, depending on whether or not this brown one hatches female.

Posted by: Gryphaena Jul 31 2017, 11:18 PM

I think the Old Rod summons the prizes, at least I used an Old Rod to get one in my Party.

Posted by: Liliac Jul 31 2017, 11:21 PM

Woah, pretty fishy...

Posted by: Sign Seven Jul 31 2017, 11:22 PM

Just got my first Ultra Wormhole just moments before I was going to purchase a Legend Voucher + to get a Cosmog. On my 8th GPX+ anniversary, no less! August is off to a great start already. happy.gif

Looking forward to catching Moltres in Pokemon Go as well, it's just a shame I have to drive 30 minutes to a city where I can actually find enough people to beat the raids.

Posted by: eludicatorflame Jul 31 2017, 11:27 PM

I will breed the Calico, Pink and White Karps I got from the Old Rods after I manage to get my shiny rockruff nods - never played magikarp jump but the designs are sure pretty!

Posted by: Zerxer Jul 31 2017, 11:30 PM

Be sure to check out the "Change Sprite" options for each of the 9 Magikarp. PokeNOM went all out with this one -- so thanks to her for all the hard work!

Magikarp Jump is a pretty fun little game and it gave poor little Magikarp some spotlight.

Ooh, okay. Really nice that they granted us three of them!

I'm gonna see if I can shelter/safari stalk them and then breed once I see what the patterns look like =)

August already, where does the time go? Looks like I'm leaving my party open for all of this month, just for a chance at a distribution Pokemon. I'm also going after Raikou for my monthly exploration, when I get a chance to do so.

I managed to get two Wormholes today, neither of my Cosmog were shiny. I didn't have to wait too long for the second one, Prankster turned into Wormhole after an hour. I'll be using my Old Rods from the SWSH tomorrow, for now I need to sleep.

Posted by: The Majestic Mr L Jul 31 2017, 11:36 PM

Oh no.

Fuck, I can't decide between Latias and Misquaza
on one hand possible golden dragon, and on the other I'm hunting Misquaza, not sure which to go for

Posted by: YoRHa No9 Type S Jul 31 2017, 11:36 PM

The Pokedex says these guys always breed novelties, so it shouldn't take to long to populate them.

Posted by: Ganbaruby Jul 31 2017, 11:39 PM

You have no idea how much I love this new set of SWSH prizes. I don't even care if I spent 9 Flame Orbs on it!
This certainly makes up for how no one seems to be breeding half of my shiny hunt targets -_-.gif

Hopefully when I get out again on Wednesday, I'll be able to bump into a random raid. I arrived too late for an Articuno one last week and wasted my Raid Pass because it was actually my first raid.

Posted by: Vande Jul 31 2017, 11:59 PM

Ohhh finally a reason for my sprite changers! Also - love those karp!

Whenever I have stuff in my Mobile Walker I use Chrome to activate it every hour. I just started getting a "Your browser was unable to determine your location! Please try again later." error. Is it because people are obsessing over the new Magikarps and overloading the system, or is my computer being stupid?

It's something that seems to happen for the frst few hours after reset. Try using the mobile site and it should work.

Back on the subject of the 'karp, and I hope I don't sound greedy here, but is there any chance of us getting the Skelly pattern as a new sprite for normal Magikarp? Since in the game it's classified as an offshoot of the standard pattern.

Posted by: Natsume Reiko Aug 1 2017, 12:13 AM

Time to check out the karp!

Posted by: Stufful Aug 1 2017, 12:15 AM

I don't know why but the new month struck something in me. A few months back I decided to kinda start fresh on my shiny collection. I want my shinies to mean something to me. Try not to be random, not safari zone, but my own collection, and i've reorganized my boxes so many times I;ve ruined the collection, and they feel worthless to me. So I decided to release all 300 something of them. I wanted to start fresh. I felt weird getting rid of them because of the five years of emmories but I rather someone else take care of them, so I don't just have them hidden in my box. I wanted to make sure they stayed in my party to level up, and kinda add more feel to them, dk. ^^ I know regrets will come but I feel clean. I still held onto my novelties, legends and my first ever shiny though. ^^

Have you checked the alternate sprites for normal Magikarp? wink.gif

Posted by: Taylor Kathleen Aug 1 2017, 12:31 AM

i've been playing magikarp jump a lot lately, so getting the old rods as a prize for my first swsh back on gpx was really exciting. i'm looking forward to this month here!

https://r.gpx.plus/GeagL
if you don't mind, could you feed teddiursa a rawst berry for my exploration? ty!

Posted by: Morowyn Aug 1 2017, 12:34 AM

The Karp look nice!

I think I'll go for lugia since I'm hunting it. Saves me some prize points happy.gif

Posted by: Sofia Aug 1 2017, 12:45 AM

Oh my goodness! Magikarp Jump! grin.gif I love that game - I'm at the Expert League. Now I get more Karps here

And tomorrow I get to brave 100+ degree temperatures to go catch a Moltres. It's kind of fitting that it will be record-breaking high temperature while hunting for a legendary Fire Pokemon

Posted by: KaliOfDarknesss Aug 1 2017, 01:16 AM

Geez. I can't find any pokemon my new magikarps want to stay near >< This breeding thing is gonna be fun.

Posted by: miu Aug 1 2017, 01:28 AM

Just hatched my last batch of puppies; I'm pretty happy with this SWSH, got a shiny (male, sigh) Salandit and a shiny Rockruff that I may or may not evolve. I'm gonna keep this hunt going, but I'm not going to be very actively hatching them eggs.

For now, I've just used my Old Rods, and I'm gonna start breeding 'karp, yippee! Also gonna start the Regigigas exploration, I still don't have it, and then one of the trio explorations, as I'm still missing one of each. It's gonna be a fun month, this August happy.gif

I picked up a bunch of them, including several that I was planning to hunt in the future; in particular, I'm very excited about the Jolteon and Mega Steelix. I'm trying to think up nicknames for all of them, and raising them all to max happiness if they aren't there already. Thank you so much.

Sigh, I've failed the Shiny Hunt for the fifth time in a row...
only those new Magikarps can cheer me up now.

I have been playing that game A LOT before my dad left (the game was on his phone)

as for the SWSH, I am still determined to finish the extended hunt. If I could do it with the Alola Vulpix (you can see her https://r.gpx.plus/VXqeX, she is now a Ninetales) then I can do it with Rockruff and Salandit as well.

Posted by: Lodrelhai Aug 1 2017, 03:27 AM

Oh man, magikarps! I love some of the designs in Magikarp Jump. And I actually have enough prize points to buy enough rods to get one of each. But one of each color and design is going to be a different matter - probably going to need another pc box.

Also, was really glad to see shiny magikarp also gets the skelly sprite! Thank you!

Do the various magikarp colors have shiny versions too?

I like the JUMP designs for the Karps so I'm glad they've been added to the site!
Since I have multiple favorite colors and designs I decided to buy a few more rods grin.gif

Not that I play the game myself but I've seen plenty of pictures of fancy looking karps

This has been bothering me since the SWSH for the Oricorio forms. Why does the Baile egg look like it is about to hatch regardless of how far along its progress is?

They're feathers, which if you can't train your eye to notice the differences in hatching steps you could always refer to the handy UI we put under every egg.

Additionally, you don't need to spam complaints about Oricorio's egg in https://forums.gpx.plus/index.php?showtopic=74671&st=340&p=2476848&#entry2476848 https://forums.gpx.plus/index.php?showtopic=74928&st=440&p=2482310&#entry2482310monthly community threads.

I'm hoping to finally be a bit more active! I'm kind of sad because I haven't actually completed a SWSH on time since last July :/ Oh well, at least this time I can afford to buy one of the new Magikarp! I actually really like the fact that there are multiple breeds of Magikarp. I always like to think that Pokemon do have natural variations!

...also, the worst part about logging in here is it always logs me out of GPX and won't log me back in for about 5 minutes -_-2.gif

Posted by: Running On Ice Aug 1 2017, 12:55 PM

I was able to get all of the Magikarps last night. Helps to have a lot of points saved up in case a situation like this happens. I'm not sure which ones I want to breed yet.

Count me in as one of the people who are surprised that it's already August. It'll be Fall before you know it. I may go for Misquaza for the distribution. I hadn't gotten one of those in a while.

Stufful, I know it was a personal choice for you, but you made a lot of other player's days. happy.gif I randomly clicked on the shelter and saw shinies everywhere. I've played this game for almost seven years and I've never seen anything like it. I received a good few of your shinies, and I will take such good care of them. Thank you! ^.^

I'm currently at 2/6 Articuno, 1/5 Lugia and 1/1 Moltres in PoGO. Caught my first Lugia yesterday in the morning and my first Moltres a couple of hours ago. Definitely easier than Articuno, both in terms of battle and capture (it helps having both gold medals regarding its type). grin.gif

Moltres is super easy! In comparison with Articuno, where normally I would use all my team, I only used half against Moltres (2900-something CP Gyarados (95% IVs) and two 2500-ish Vaporeon (with 75 and 77% IVs) to beat it (we were 11). Despite the strong attacks (mine had Overheat, which is the best charge move), it goes down very quickly. And if you've patience, have both Flying and Fire type gold medals and are good throwing great throws, you're good to go. happy.gif

Today was weird since my city only had 4 legendary raids all day, so I'm planning on doing some tomorrow too.

Posted by: Alchemists Fire Aug 1 2017, 04:31 PM

I'm 0/2 Lugia. Because the second time people showed up and then left and we never even attempted it. Got sick of being in such a flaky group, and I can't get to half the raids anyway, so I'm just not gonna bother with the legendaries. They didn't really make it fair to people who AREN'T constantly battling and powering up their Pokemon. So screw it.

I'm so excited for the new Magikarp though, and I'm kinda considering doing a hunt for a regular shiny Magikarp so I can get a red Gyarados, which was a major part of my team in Silver.

Now if only I could finish my stupid Spiritomb hunt xD

I actually have a general question... when I visit these forums while I'm logged in to GPX.Plus, it logs me out there. Sometimes when I sign in here and try to log back in there, it doesn't let me. It doesn't give an error message or anything. It just refreshes and doesn't log me in. Does anybody know why this happens?

Also, on the above topic - Got my first Moltres today, so I'm pretty happy.

Posted by: Makoto Naegi Aug 1 2017, 05:29 PM

Had enough Prize Points to get 5 extra Old Rods on top of my 3 as a prize. So that accounts for 8 of the 9 novelties.

Aiming for Moltres, since that's the only of the event-given 'mons I don't have.

For explorations, doing the Three Muskateers one and the Victini one.

Posted by: Asbel Lhant Aug 1 2017, 05:59 PM

I've only ever seen two raids, yesterday it was a Vaporeon and today it was an Electabuzz. There were no people around for either of them, so I didn't even bother trying to go after it by myself. I'm not expecting to ever get a Legendary from Pokemon GO, so I don't really care.

Well I started a Type: Null hunt for the SWSH and decided to keep it as a regular hunt when it was over. I just managed to get the 15 eggs I needed to use Honey+ so I'll be able to enjoy the multipliers for hatching them. I'm just going to hope it doesn't take as long as my Rockruff hunt.

Posted by: Luneon Aug 1 2017, 06:19 PM

I don't do battles in GO whatsoever XD

At my grandma's there's not a lot of raids to begin with
I've only seen a single Articuno and that was pretty late in the evening

The legendaries I really like haven't been released yet, sadly ^^;

Posted by: Shadow Fennekin Aug 1 2017, 06:56 PM

This is why I don't buy legendary vouchers.
I bought the other 6 I needed. I just don't have the patience to search for eggs/Pokemon that rare. I think I'll breed some soon, I'll look at the stats and see what isn't being bred first though. To help that colored Magikarp get spread across the site. Rather than picking my favorite one and finding out everyone is breeding THAT Magikarp.
I really love the sprites, I'll take a look at regular Magikarp whenever I have the time.

And happy I see people wanting Misquaza. happy.gif
I was shocked I even won the raffle, I only posted.... once or twice in July. lol
And I might just grab Misquaza the day of, just for twice the chance at getting a shiny. It's such a pain summoning sometimes, and nerve racking as I miss most of them when the count is 300+. Plus, no mystery Pokemon this month or just a new Pokemon in general so that makes my choice easy.

Posted by: Mikaku Onchi Aug 1 2017, 07:35 PM

New month already huh? Time surely flies by.
Today I can say it was a good day I think. I finally finished my Pichu hunt and got a female, which I evolved to Pop Star Pika, she's so cute ♥. Finished the Victini explo, no shiny unfortunately and I'm still stuck in the feeding task of the Trio of Trials explo.
(If you could spare a berry for the Golurk here, I thank you lots)
https://r.gpx.plus/hsmgL

I also used my prize points to buy old rods and then get all the magikarp patterns. They are lovely, kudos to PokeNOM NOM NOM!!! I haven't played the game yet 'cause my phone is a little problematic, but my sister plays it and I like how it works. It looks fun.

On another note, I don't know if anyone remembers me talking about my ideas for a set of October trinkets? Well, it won't be a set, but I already made 3 different ones happy.gif Submitted one today, let's see if it will be accepted.

Can I ask what's your trainer level? You don't really need to be constantly battling to get legendaries. You just need a good raid group. I've found one during the GO Fest event and it has been great!

Besides, this follows the main series games logic: you also need strong pokemons to face legendaries.

I've only ever seen two raids, yesterday it was a Vaporeon and today it was an Electabuzz. There were no people around for either of them, so I didn't even bother trying to go after it by myself. I'm not expecting to ever get a Legendary from Pokemon GO, so I don't really care.

Yeah, unfortunately no one's interested in level 2/3 raids at the moment (although Electabuzz is doable solo if you have a mildly good team). Not even level 4 and I still need a Tyranitar. sad.gif

As for bugfixing, any hopes on the crashing issue with the shelter? Or being unable to use Mobile Walker on my browser? (I have used it on mobile without issues, but browser is like "lolnope")

Happens all the time for me, been 2 months I think. For the shelter anyways, I don't use the mobile walker.
I just refresh when the shelter does that, but it can be quite irritating when you see an egg/Pokemon you need and it does that before you can click on it. Happened last month on several Pokemon related tasks. xP

I've done the clear chache/cookies, uninstall and reinstall Chrome stuff but nothing changed. It even does it on other computers whenever I log in somewhere else, so I know it's not just my computer now.

I leveled up to 28 during the event. My highest CP is in the 2k rage, and all the rest are like CP1997 and lower. I've never bothered with the gyms because they were all in the 1000s within the first couple weeks the game was out, before I even had my first 200CP+ Pokemon, so I never saw much point.

We couldn't get a consistent raid group to show up. The most we had at one point was 9 people for a Lugia, and we failed it because the game hung on me while i was trying to heal my team to get back in, so there was "one person's" damage left...which would've been me...

The second time I tried, we had about 6 show up, and then one had to leave before we were even able to start. There's not enough people that don't have work/school or live close enough. I'm personally stuck with where I can get to on foot or on transit, which is about 3 gyms.

Yup, I used my Old Rods and now I'm breeding pink and apricot. Together. Probably not the best of ideas, yesterday they laid a whooping total of three eggs, donated all three of them, and I'm happy to see they've been picked up from the shelter. The pokedex says there are people breeding them (e.g. 12 people are breeding pink); has anyone managed to get a better result than The two Pokémon prefer to stay away from each other.?

I'm breeding the grey novelty with ditto and I get the "the two pokemon prefer to stay away from each other" message. Only one egg produced per breeding. I guess maybe I should switch to breed 2 novelty carps together, but so far i've only gotten males.

I'm breeding the novelty magikarps too, two different patterns together and I get the same result "the two pokemon prefer to stay away from each other" and only 1 egg per breeding. I guess this is meant to be? Or we have to leave them in the daycare for a long time together idk.

Posted by: Gato Aug 2 2017, 08:11 AM

I'm going to assume that one gets better results breeding same colored karps.

Posted by: Venusaur King Aug 2 2017, 08:15 AM

So do the Novelty Magikarps breed one egg at time? I haven't seen any in the shelter yet.

Posted by: miu Aug 2 2017, 08:51 AM

I'm getting either one or no eggs per breeding cycle by pairing pink and apricot. Maybe Gato's idea of breeding the same color would work, but it might take a while to get the right genders. Also, Gato, love the Chi avatar you've got there! Works great with your username too happy.gif

Posted by: Luneon Aug 2 2017, 09:57 AM

I'm familiar with the shelter bug. I get it multiple times a day although I just refresh. Luckily it hasn't happened to me while there was a legendary or novelty egg in there :P

-------------------------------------

As for the karps
Doesn't the amount of eggs also depend on the amount of time the two Pokémon spent together??
The karps were released just yesterday so maybe they just need a few more days

Plus there's always novel power I guess

I hope everyone is having a good week, I'm ready for school to start again later this month.

Yeah, your problem is definitely your raid group. Yesterday we had a level 17 in the group and previously I saw a girl that was level 22. If your strongest 'mon is something around 2k CP, you won't get the damage bonus, so what really matters is finishing the raid. 9 people for a Lugia is a very small amount of people, unless 8 of them were level 37+. I always recommend a minimum of 17 people because you'll most likely have some lower level guys and gals and with that number is doable.

Breeding calico and black together (and just donated a calico to the shelter!) but only producing one egg per batch cries. Shiny hunting for black because I hate myself and thought this would be a fairly smooth hunt...
Well I think it will be kind of smooth after a short while and at least these novelties don't require animal sacrifices and spending that sweet sweet gpx currency to get so eh.

I figured, which is why I've given up on raiding. I don't think they were ever able to get a group larger than about 10 people at a time. The idea of trying to get 17 of these people together is almost laughable... Not to mention there ended up being a ton of fighting in the group chat...so I just backed out. Guess I don't need legends that badly.

Articuno is the one I really wanted, since it's always been one of my faves, and I'm Team Mystic, but it just wasn't meant to be.

And so I stay inside and play GPX and PokeFarm *nodnod* I've got shiny hunts to work on anyway xD

So the Magikarp are being bred, but only producing a super-small number of eggs... I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, seeing as they are novelties.

Is anyone gonna attempt to shiny hunt them? And, do they evolve?

There are 200 eggs of each pokemon, 1000 in total. So yeah, you might not receive one at all, despite being a bit improbable mathematically.

Unlike the games, gpx lets you breed the species of both parents. How this works is that when eggs are bred, they are considered to be the offspring of one of their parents. When you breed White Magikarp with regular Magikarp, all those regular Magikarp eggs you produce are coming from the regular Magikarp. Meanwhile, I do agree that the word always is misleading. Because won't necessarily always produce novelties. It will only produce novelties one novelty, sometimes.

Ah, so when White Magikarp breeds an egg, it will always be a White Magikarp egg, but if the partner breeds one, it will be one of theirs. That makes sense.

So I missed the SWSH last month, but I was able to buy 2 old rods, and depending on how I do on the hunts and such this month, I might be able to get a few more. Also trying for misquaza today. And apparently I need to watch for a cosmog portal. How does that work? Same as Hoopa? Which I just got yesterday XD

Okay, that PoGo announcement for Europe is really exciting for me because it confirms something I had thought about for a while, which is the idea that certain regional Pokémon would be available in other places for a limited time. Plus, Unown being more common is great (I've only caught one so far). Hopefully, this will be a thing in the US soon as well. happy.gif I have Tauros, Corsola, and Mr. Mime, but I sure could use some others for my dex. (And yes, I know GoFest had Heracross and Corsola available, but I'd like things on a smaller scale that happen more often and across a wider region within a city or something.)

Still looking for those novelty Magikarp... :/

GO Fest only had Heracross (and Unown) iirc. oh.gif At this point and seeing the number of big cities in Europe that are not going to have any of this, I would rather prefer that Niantic changed the concept to seasonals and have them migrate every 3/4 months, with their spawn rate being something equal to a wild Togetic/Tyranitar/Blissey/etc. It would be fair to everyone that way. :/

Regarding Jump 'Karps, I gave up and spent some PP. -_-2.gif I'll try to get them back in the following weeks with 1st place in the PokéHunts and see if I can get the remaining two Karps (Pink and Gray) from the Shelter.

A few smaller places here got a mention on the list which I see as nice for them since "rural" players don't often get much GO love.
Plus it's also good for tourism since we maaaaaaay go to said smaller places for some mons then have a drink there
I don't mind whatsoever that my city isn't on there even though it's in the top 5 largest places in my country.

After all, it's called Pokémon GO, not "Pokémon everything comes to me" :P
The having to work for it part is what makes it fun and challenging
Don't need a guide to find tourist attractions, just gotta open up GO and whoop I become an instant travel guide haha

I haven't found any Unown yet
Thought they weren't even released so that's a nice surprise

FINALLY got my 2 Onix from the Shelter. still no eggs from my Ditto/Black Magikarp pair. the Daycare Man says "The two Pokémon prefer to stay away from each other". What does that mean for my Egg chances? Still says they can lay Eggs.

Yep, they can still lay eggs, but it'll only be occasionally. Mine say that, too, and they've only made one egg in a few days. :/

Regarding Go Fest, the regionals that were available there were Heracross and Corsola. I'd personally really like Kangaskhan and Farfetch'd. I can drive two hours south to get Heracross if I really wanted to.

Oh, OK! keeping my fingers crossed for a Novelty Egg! also, with my Yellow Forest exploration, how do i find the Berry Pouch? i'm a bit stuck on that.

Man, now I remember why I never did the Regigigas expedition again after the first time.
This task is so annoying.
I honestly progressed through the dreaded Dedenne task faster than the 'feed Charmander Pecha berries' task. lol

And I hope that Go thing comes to the US at some point. I'm never going to be able to go to all of those countries, and I doubt most players will to get those 'exclusives' which I always thought was a dumb idea.

Posted by: Makoto Naegi Aug 4 2017, 09:51 PM

Haven't been really good in regards to GO, because of smaller town and stuff.

As for Jump Magikarps, I only need pink. Have 16 PP, and wish to save them for other stuff, so trying to find one in shelter (also not helping cause I'm trying to keep party locked until Sunday)

Posted by: Mamanator Aug 5 2017, 01:04 AM

Evening Everyone. happy.gif I'm actually on my way to bed and thought I'd see about turning over my Golett eggs when I saw a new egg in my party. Wow! Sweet! I forgot all about the event eggs! See how busy work is right before a big meeting? LOL

So thank you to the member (sorry, I don't remember who it was) that asked for Misquaza. This will be my first. I'm very happy with this egg. Thank you!

In non Pokemon related news.... I'm planning on watching THE DARK TOWER tomorrow. Very, VERY excited for this!!!

To do it quickly, use Search Power in the Shop and then interact with Pokemon, open other GPX pages, or just refresh your main page until it appears.

Or you can just wait a several hours (like overnight) and it will say you found it when you refresh your main page (or any page on GPX).

Chesto please!

It was only Heracross+Unown. That was what was advertised in pictures and Trainer Tips only caught those two there (capturing his first Corsola in Hawaii). I doubt that he (and everyone at TSR) would miss Corsola. Plus it wouldn't make sense to have two regionals there for the event and only give Europe and Japan one.

I feel you on task difficulty... though I'm on DOTW's locked party pokemon task. Of course the Lapras and Tropius still aren't at levle 100, and I can't move any of the mons from my party, so I'm kind of stuck waiting for them to get to 100 so I can actually hunt shinies again.

Also managed to get a Misquaza egg, maybe it'll give me a shiny to make up for failing the SWSH (luckily, I stocked a ton of prize points, so I was able to buy an Old Rod for each form).

Posted by: x Sam Aug 5 2017, 09:36 AM

I feel really bad. I picked up someone's fully hatched event Misquaza egg, and it hatched SHINY. Me thinking omgomgomg, I checked the forums and turns out it was an accidental glitch release aaaaand now I feel a bit guilty sealed.gif

I'm still on the Tapu exploration so I should probably finish that off at some point.

I've been a bit ill lately, I'm fine in appearance and sound fine, my tonsils just hurt a lot. I don't think it's tonsillitis because they're not inflamed but there are the odd tonsillitis symptoms here and there. Last thing I need! Note to self, don't let yourself get rundown aha.

Pokemon Go has been keeping me super busy the last couple of months! I've been doing heaps of raids, especially since my bf created a Facebook raids group for our town. It's worked out really well for organising raids, especially since the legendary raids came out. A couple of weeks ago I also managed to complete the dex (thus far, excluding regionals) ^_^.gif So I better catch Zapdos next week to keep it up! I hope we get some Pokemon Go related events here down under...would love a chance at catching some of the other regionals without having to go overseas :P Though apparently you can catch Corsola if you go up north of Western Australia...maybe an excuse for a holiday!

I haven't posted here in a couple of months ^^" Aside from Pokemon Go, moving house and six baby lovebirds have been keeping me super busy. Been in my new house now for two weeks, but still slowly unpacking! And my baby birbs are old enough to be sold now, so trying to find new homes for them.

So... in non-pokemon news, the old tenant that was living in the apartment above my parent's garage is FINALLY moving out (they were supposed to be out October last year, but kept asking for extensions for various reasons). Unfortunately, she left a bit of a mess behind.

Some wall fixtures are messed up along with the flooring due to the two pitbulls she had living with her, so we have to spackle and re-paint the walls and redo the floors. We also need to fix the front door since it warped a bit and won't shut properly without jamming it upward, and most of the nail for the stairs leading up to the door need to be replaced... but after all that, I should finally be able to move into the apartment.

That sounds good! Some work but it could always be worse.
At least there's no mould or rot going on where the entire floor has to be relaid or something!

I'm getting bored of being in my flat now. I just discovered that my 'friends', a few of them have actually been back in Bristol when I've been free but haven't told me. Thanks guys love u lots. So once I'm better (feeling a lot better today actually) I'm heading back into the gym.

Next two weeks are busy with work too rolleyes.gif Working Friday - Sunday next week and then the following week I'm doing Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. rip my feet

I LOVE the novelty/legendary change.
It would be great if some berry task requirements got lowered a bit too, for pretty much the same reason that happened. I'd actually start That Burning Desire, but knowing I could possibly be stuck on it for months just from the berry tasks.... is a big turn off to me. Especially when I could miss out on an expedition giving out UBs or Magearna/Marshadow

Agreed on the limit removal, I'm super pleased with this. #removealllimits2k17 is going well. Can Backroom limits be next?

I was hoping for a Misquaza egg in the distribution (after Latias I also didn't get) but it seems Sam got that shiny. Congrats, it's a beautiful one. I got the Lugia, which I guess I'll hope is also shiny Ż\_(ツ)_/Ż

I'm going on holidays on Monday, as well, and I'm really looking forward to it. I really feel like I need a holiday. We'll be spending a few days in Brussels and a couple in London. grin.gif

Posted by: Makoto Naegi Aug 5 2017, 03:39 PM

First anniversary hit, but I didn't need the prize so I sold it. Keep checking the backroom for a Silver Wing!

As for the limit removal, HECK YEAH!

I also agree with berry task requirements to be lowered a bit. Not by much, maybe by like 10-25%, depending on the original requirement, but enough to make longer tasks not seem impossible (hence why I'm putting off TBD and DotW for so long). Also, can it be possible to use Pokewalker and Mobile Walker for level to 100 tasks, but all other movable locations are locked?

I mean. Not being funny (and we know I'm hilarious), but That Burning Desire has been out for a good 5 years now. Plenty of time. Plus explorations are always rotated so you wouldn't miss out on it as a one time only thing.

As someone just stated, 400 berries isn't that bad. If you're active it'll soon go down.

Ayyy I got the Lugia egg! It was the only one I really wanted of the batch, so I'm super pleased. Also, nice to see the special shelter limit gone - I'd been running into some weirdness where I'd only adopt 1 thing and then no more novelties or anything would show.

My mistake, then -- I read from someone else that Corsola was also there, but I didn't see any screenshots of it. Unown's not regional, though; just super uncommon.

I'm glad everyone's liking the egg limit removal. So yes, you should now (for example) be able to grab three things from the Lab that weren't summoned by you and summon another three, thereby allowing for six eggs in your party. happy.gif In addition to this update, I'm personally thrilled that I can get Tapu Bulu now. I didn't spend 200 Prize Points for nothing!

Also regarding the increased breeding rate for the new Magikarp: since more eggs are now produced, it would be super cool if people continued to breed them for those of us who don't have all nine forms yet. I just refreshed over a brown one and didn't see it again. sad.gif

Posted by: Veradana Aug 5 2017, 08:20 PM

Can someone explain the full details on the Special Eggs Limit to me, please? I've been here for years, but I have no idea what it is. It mentions novelties specifically but all people here are talking about is summonable legendaries.

Posted by: Luneon Aug 5 2017, 08:20 PM

Thank you guys for removing the egg limit
For those of us hunting summonable legendaries it's great to see we can now summon and obtain multiple.
I've been wanting to go on a summoning spree for a while now to finally get that one achievement.

---------------

Spent most of the day playing Splatoon 2
Managed to get max Splatfest rank (yay!)
Found out that I can get A LOT of points if I play more offensively (I've been playing support and defense up until this Splatfest)
Not really sure what I'm going to do with 50k coins though oh.gif
Maybe buy more clothing... I saw a few cute things pass by

While taking a break I saw the new US/UM reveal, I kind of like it.
Hopefully it will be available in both versions.
I haven't seen anything regarding typing but if it's a nice one I might add to my future US/UM team.

Haven't been posting here because my life has been boring and that weird kind of exhausting that happens even when you do nothing. We're moving again but almost all of my stuff is packed except for stuff I currently need or use frequently. So it's just lying around and awaiting the inevitable stress ball.

No luck in the distribution so far, though I did miss yesterday. Guess karma decided that because I was a winner last month I shouldn't get greedy? Still a few more days so maybe I'll be l u c k y. Lucky like my gf who got a Hoopa through the header on her third day of being here despite not being as active as me. Cries.

Ah!! My karps are more attached to each other and produced like five eggs! Hope people are searching/hunting for calicos or blacks

I must confess... I've been here a while and forgot there was like a summoning limit... Or.... Something?

Posted by: Running On Ice Aug 5 2017, 08:55 PM

Guess that means I can at least start doing all of the summoning item explorations again now I can use more of them at a time to summon things if I want to.

I ended up getting Zombidofo by mistake for the distribution and I wasn't sure what to do with it. I've been having some computer issues that I hope to look into this week. I may even have to send it somewhere. Either way I'm going to have to explain it all.

3 cheers for the increased Magikarp breeding! I was starting to think it'd be at least a few weeks before I managed to snag them all from the shelter. I'm still looking for White and Apricot, but Calico and Gray seem to be pretty common already in the shelter.

Posted by: YoRHa No9 Type S Aug 6 2017, 01:39 AM

It looks like orange, brown, and apricot Magikarp need breeding most of all. Black, purple, and calico are doing fine and probably don't need any more breeders now that their breeding rate has increased.

I'm watching the battle, and I see your problem. It's crucial to pay attention to type matchups and switch out whenever you're at a disadvantage, either offensively or defensively. It's also unwise to use more than one Pokemon of a type on the same team.

I have been switching out... and my double-fire, double-electric, double-ground has the best success rate so far. I can get him down to 2 Pokemon now instead of only beating 1 or 2 of them.

I don't have a lot of lvl 76-100 Pokemon to pick from that have 100 IV or more. I don't battle, I collect, I don't even know what IVs are, I don't think they existed in gens 1 & 2 (or if they did, I had no idea they did).

What do you suggest I do? I only have about 8 days left to complete the exploration...

Edit: Also feel like a complete idiot because I forgot to leave a spot open in my party for the egg distribution...way to go me...oh well, at least I finally finished my Shiny Spiritomb hunt after 6 months...

Posted by: Synx Itax Aug 6 2017, 02:33 AM

Since Orange Magikarp have the fewest number of breeders, I went ahead and put one in my Daycare. On a related note, I'm quite pleased to say that I managed to grab all the different eggs thanks to the increased breeding rates. happy.gif Hopefully, everyone can get the rest of them soon enough!

I also grabbed a Cosmog and no longer need to encounter the header event. oh.gif

Alchemists Fire, I'd suggest you look through the Safari Zone and grab high IV'd Pokémon. That's more or less how I got my team; they were random grabs or hatches, and vitamins helped as well. I'm not sure what battle you're doing, but you're better off overall if you have a team with at least 120 IVs each.

QUOTE(Alchemists Fire @ Aug 6 2017, 12:04 AM) *
-snip-

IVs are simple stat modifiers. Each IV you have in a stat is basically a +1 bonus to that stat at level 100. So they're a good way to determine a Pokemon's potential at a glance and pick the best individuals to take your time raising. However, base stats are more important overall. When I'm facing an NPC opponent and I know their team, I research the base stats of each of their Pokemon, taking particular note of which is their strongest attack stat and weakest defense stat. Then I try to find one of my own Pokemon with both the base stats and type matchup to serve as a good counter. I personally like to have a team with multiple Pokemon that can potentially handle each member of the opposing team, just as a backup plan in case things go badly.

The team I used for that NPC is listed https://forums.gpx.plus/index.php?s=&showtopic=72414&view=findpost&p=2481462, if you want some ideas on what Pokemon to use. I realize most of those Pokemon can be tough to get your hands on, but there's a number of others with similar typings and stat distributions that can serve similar roles.

It's the battle from the Tapu Exploration... All my 120+ IV Pokemon are weak against half the trainer's Pokes. I was able to do ok with some 100+ ones (like my 112 IV Raichu)

How do I tell if Safari Zone pokes have high IVs?

Can someone explain the full details on the Special Eggs Limit to me, please? I've been here for years, but I have no idea what it is. It mentions novelties specifically but all people here are talking about is summonable legendaries.

Back when the egg limit was a thing, you could only have up to three legend/novelty egg in your party at a time. Once you hit that limit, legends (including your own summons) wouldn't show up in the lab or the shelter. You could only fill your party with them through breeding, vouchers, or (later on) explorations. As far as I can remember, it was to prevent people from mass hoarding legends/novelties and never hatching them, since some of the legend events (ah, good old event scripts) resulted in people logging in JUST to get an egg and just letting it sit there to never hatch, preventing people who were active from receiving an egg.

Now that the site isn't as active and legend are a bit more freely available though explorations, the limit is removed and we can potentially have a party full of legends/novelites if we so desire. Hope that helps, and someone let me know if I missed something.

Makes it much easier to get all the karps
Atm I just need 2 more for the dex entries cat.gif
I think I might use my remaining vouchers for those if I can't find them in the shelter anytime soon

With the breeding boost on magikarp and it always breeding novelties doesn't that make it the perfect candidate for the Undaunted achievement?

On the subject of battles: I just did type matchups with whatever old Level 100's I had on me. Besides having matchups, you might want to have at least one Pokemon that has a lot of resistances. For me, it's a Bronzong.

Yes and no
It has a pretty low required egg steps amount which can lead to loads of one hour ruled eggs when there's pliers.
But I suppose it's great for when there's no pliers and things are moving forward slowly.

Thank you so much! Shows how rarely I summon anything, lol. I never noticed the limit, even though I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere easy to see.

Anyway, before I breed any carps I need to finish my Valentacool hunt.

*sigh* I don't have the PC space to adopt a bunch of potentially useless things...

I can't figure out the stupid type table, both ways I've tried haven't worked at all. I found one combo that gave me an x4 attack, but if I don't get to hit first, the Pokemon constantly gets 1HKO'd... all my ground types do, they're practically useless unless I get to hit first...

Also looks like all of YoRHa's team have gems...I only have one Electric Gem and one Psychic gem...

To be honest, you can get by without amazing IVs for exploration tasks. It's challenges like the E4 and Battle Subway where you really need the best of the best. For the longest time, I was using whatever random level 100s were in my PC. Gems aren't strictly necessary either, though I do recommend them. They're 5 points each in the prize shop, which is pretty cheap, and they're also surprisingly not too uncommon in the backroom.

The other piece of advice I have is to make sure your opponent isn't setting up on you. There's a move called Haze that will remove all buffs and debuffs from the two active Pokemon. I can't recommend it enough for times when your opponent is trying to boost their own stats.

I wondered why a random Zombidofo egg appeared in my party! Now I understand why! grin.gif

As far as Pokemon Go is concerned, forget the raids. No one ever joins in and I get slaughtered. So I haven't got a single one yet sad.gif

Looking forward to getting another legendary exploration under my belt grin.gif

I assumed the carps had been released for the Jump game. Just gotta keep an eye out for 'em wink.gif

For items, I usually try to equip with choice items or leftovers, depending on what I need in the battle (ex: Do I need both attack types or can I plow through with just one type? Can the mon use leftovers effectively? Does it need a speed boost over a power boost?).

Some good setup mons I occasionally use are Metagross and Bronzong with leftovers since they're pretty tanky. You can usually boost using the defense buffers (pay attention to whether the opponent's using physical or special attacks and focus on that one first as well as how much damage they're doing) use recover when it looks like your about to die, once you've used both buffers three times, just spam the steel attack moves. If you manage to get set up properly, the only thing that can knock you down are pokemon with a type advantage against Steel/Phychic types.

On some occasions, like when I know what their team is and they have something that would have type advantage to me, I can try to use a fast mon with a gem they're weak to to anticipate a switch to get a super effective hit in, then they either have to take another super effective attack to stay in or I get a free hit on whatever they switch out with.

As for not having enough space to grab random Safari mons, some extra PC boxes might be a good investment just so you CAN have space, plus you'll probably end up using them eventually, so why not get some?

I wouldn't say unstoppable, I've definitely had my fair share of set-up fails and knockouts after set-up, but it definitely wreaks havoc if there's nothing to counter it or kill it while it's setting up.

Also, FINALLY leveled all the locked mons to 100 and got the task done WHILE getting a blue puppy (from my normal hunt). Going for another one to get the other form... might take me a while before I'm ready to even LOOK at Null eggs again...

I find it pretty fun that we all use slightly different methods when it comes to battling on here
My strategy is just to go with types that cover the most opponent mons in terms of weaknesses
Only type I can't really do that with is normal
Luckily most normal mons are dual type with something more easily to take out
In the core games I tend to cover as many different types as possible instead of going the gym leader specific way

My second ruff hunt is now on 358 eggs hatched, I took a short break to hatch some karps but now I'm all back onto the ruffs.
I wonder if this one will be my 1000+ eggs achievement cat.gif

That's usually what I do. I go through all the mons if I've done the battle before and see if I can find any common weaknesses and plan around that. In-game, I always plan out my team before I even start the game, starting with which starter I plan to use and building a team that covers each other's weaknesses dumblook.gif

My Sun team ended up with Primarina (Aria), Lycanroc (Capriccio), Garchomp (Bass), Lilligant (Vivace), Talonflame (Tremolo), and Espeon (Cantabile) as my main roster. It works as a solid team for me and manages to cover everyone's weaknesses pretty effectively.

While I do agree that TBD!! is difficult (the most difficult one imo), you can do it if you're active enough. 2 weeks and a half should be enough. And that way you won't miss any new explorations.

Edit: Your egg hatched into Sh. Magikarp [Gray]!

welp, it didn't count towards Undaunted because I didn't had the egg dex entry :'( and it seems like it's the 2nd on the site

Are we talking about battling in GPX, There is always Sam's guide, but let me share my condensed guide to Master Commuter.

i) Speed is the most important stat you want to be the first to make a move and never have to worry about taking 2 hits on a switch.
ii) Your lead has to be fast and strong to many things. Dugtrio is usually a staple, very few things can outspeed a speed invested Dugtrio and ground type gives it a good range for the first hit.
iii)Always shoot to kill, never stay in on a neutral match-up, the opponent will always switch so must you. Switch to something that supereffects the opponent always, 95% of the time his attack will do no damage and you'll get a good, sometimes free, hit out. Even when you don't outspeed you must still switch.
iv)Never let one of your guys die, doesn't matter if it's on 4% if it's faster it's almost a certain kill on something later in the battle.
v) I don't think stat boost are useful, because switching is too important, staying in for a sweep rarely works out, most things die in one hit anyway if the attack is super effective.
vi) You need a bulky (mono-)fairy type ex.Clefairy. Most teams on the subway were made back in Gen 5, dragons are very common. A bulky steel type doesn't hurt either, a have a Ferrothorn without a steel move but that's enough to scare a fairy type opponent to a switch.
vii) Don't be afraid if your opponents starts to set up, that should never be a problem because during his turn of setup you will be switching to a thing that supereffects him forcing him to switch out next turn and giving you a free hit.
viii) Choice items are very good, gems are not. You'll do so much switching that being locked in one move won't be an issue.

Summarizing: Always switch to super effect, never waste a turn on a neutral move if you don't have to..

Also Fairy Gem when, there are some very specific teams a want to try it on.

I disagree with gems being useless. Mega Charizard X with a Water Gem is one of the best counters you can have against the common fire-types like Ninetales and Typhlosion, and having gems on my other team members has given me more options against tricky type combinations. For example, grass is a bad defensive type, but there's so many things with a double weakness to it that a Grass Gem is potentially a good investment.

I don't rely on stat boosts because, as you said, you're switching too much to make a lot of use of it. However, I've had major success with buffing Mega Aggron or Mega Metagross to clean up after major threats have been taken care of. If I have an opportunity to get a setup going with them, they can tear through nearly anything. Bulky steel-types are honestly really good candidates for sweeping, and I'd strongly consider putting one or two buffing moves onto them.

I agree that having a fairy-type is crucial, but it doesn't necessarily need to be all that bulky. The Alolan Ninetales I use has mediocre defense, but the type immunity means even physical dragons do very little to her. I personally prefer the increased speed she offers compared to other popular choices like Mega Audino.

If I weren't sick I'd actually try battling rn. This all is p inspiring .... I can be a decent battler in the games but gpx is a whole nother level. I've found that exploration battles can be easy to cheese though? Exploration AI seems fond of switching out Pokemon and I've managed to trap my opponent into being switch happy more than a few times. It's odd.... more like playing mind games than actual battling sometimes. Luck, too...

But I mean this isn't TBD or DotW so it makes sense I guess?

Posted by: YoRHa No9 Type S Aug 7 2017, 12:55 PM

Their AI is the same as in any other battle, really. At least with exploration battles you can study your opponent and figure out how to counter them, and there's no real penalty for losing. The other types of battles have higher stakes, since you can either have your streak broken or be forced to wait up to 3 days before trying again, so there's a much higher incentive to get it right the first time. Plus, since there's no way to know what's coming in the Battle Subway, it's important to have a team that's ready for anything rather than tailoring them to fit a specific opponent. I have a much wider pool of Pokemon I use for explorations and the E4.

Sure you have the Water Gem but the AI doesn't know it, so it will choose to stay in, and if it's faster or you don't kill it in one it's going to hit you hard. Same with a neutral match-up. Switching a flying or water type would be a much better choice. A single 1x hit does usually more damage than 2 1/2x.

I do have a Ferrothorn with the defensive set and leftovers, but I never set up I only have it as a last line of defense otherwise it just there for water types. That is because in order to be clear to set up you have to make sure the opponent doesn't have any ground, fire, fighting types left, sometimes that's half the opponent's team, at that point I don't need to set up, the pokemon left do ether no or even negative damage to me just by sheer bulk. I don't sweep at the end of the battle I usually start with my sweeper when I don't know the enemy's pokemon. At the end I know what to switch in. You can totally sweep with a setup steel type but you can do the same with a specs Dugtrio with no turns wasted.

There are so many dragons in teams there is no question about if you need a fairy type. I've tried Alolan Ninetales, I always had nothing to do against flying types and it's good. But Clefable suits my strategy a bit better I've found. Opponent has a dragon you bring Clefable take no damage, at that point you know he is not staying in, you click on Moonblast. It's a strong attack it's going to take a good chunk out of whatever comes in, you don't need to save the strong attacks all dragons die easily just with weak. I prefer the extra damage the strong attack offers. Again because in the beginning of the battle you want to do as much damage as you can, the opponent is always going to be switching out to something you can't predict.

Something different I wanted to ask people who've done battles in the subway. The only pokemon I'm afraid to see in a team is Mega Aerodactyl. It's so fast my Mega Alakazam might have outsped one once, and nothing I have other than the Ferrothorn can survive the 2 hits needed for a switch still it kills me faster than I can kill it. Any advice on that right now all I can do is brute force it?

Of course I'm not going to stay in for a ground-type unless I know I can kill it. However, oftentimes I can bait the opponent into switching to a rock or ground-type, and anticipating the switch I select Water Gun. Even if it's not a free kill, I often take a huge chunk of their HP. Similarly, the Psychic Gem on my Arceus is often better than Ninetales for dealing with physical fighting-types, since Arceus is so much bulkier. I either get to kill the fighter in relative safety, or if the opponent decides to switch, score a free hit against whatever they decide to send in, because for some reason the AI always expects electricity even if they know I have the gem.

Choice items have their place, but they've cost me enough battles that I don't want to rely on them if I don't have to. I prefer taking a more cautious and defensive approach, which works great with the sort of switch-baiting you can do with gems.

Something that it won't do x1 to? Another steel type is always good. Bastiodon is fine if you want something specifically for that.
I personally have a Mega Audino as my fairy but whatever works for you works for you.

I have to say though, in the case of gems and your scenario of Megazard X and a water gem vs a ground type - depends on the gem. I actually quite like using gems, they're pretty useful in situations. But it depends on what Pokémon you're using and whether you're using it effectively. But you're only using one type out of the 17 to use as an example. Grass gem megazard X is actually brilliant. A lot of ground types are part water so you've got a x4 effective sneak attack straight off the bat.

If you know you can't faint the ground type just switch out? Why stay in, lol.

Chances are you're either using the wrong Pokemon for gems or not using them efficiently because they can be pretty useful.

Gems have a great place in switch predicting, but I think that's about it, they don't work as coverage. A pokemon that can one shot with a gem attack have to be precisely calibrated any random 100lv won't work. If you've made the logical prediction that something is going to switch in to your Mega Charizard doesn't it feel a lot more safe just to switch to your grass type or if you can predict but know you need two hits you could get the same result by using Dragon pulse twice. Both take 2 turns to kill and you take no damage but you'll avoid the scenario of it quickclawing or surprisingly outspeeding you and you get a free item. I've seen them work but never felt they are worth the item slot, I haven't been in situations where predicting and using a gem beat predicting and switching.

Posted by: YoRHa No9 Type S Aug 7 2017, 05:51 PM

Another thing about gems is that shit happens. Sometimes your opponent has an item you weren't expecting, or they get a surprise crit, and suddenly you've lost the Pokemon you were counting on. Or an earlier Pokemon from the other team has worn yours out to the point that you don't want to risk keeping it in. Obviously you don't want any of that to happen, but it can and does, and this way you have a plan B.

It's all situational. For the record Dragon Pulse isn't an actual move on GPX+.
Any level 76-100 will work fine with it.

I'm not saying you should stay in with the gem and hope for the best, naturally if I'm at a disadvantage I would switch out. All my post was responding to was your point about how you dislike gems, and I was giving my own opinions as to why I personally think they're useful.

I've been in situations where gems are useful. I actually use one on my Mega Manectric, an Ice Gem to be precise. Mega Manectric has a stellar special attack and it works well for me. It saves me having an ice type pokémon in my team and saves me having to find a way to counter pokémon that would be super effective against it.

All I'm saying is, if gems don't work for you, that's fine. Just don't shun them off because you don't find them great, they can and do work in a lot of situations, especially within the super effective and not effective ranges.

edit: Whilst I'm here I'm going to argue the stat boosting statement.

It's situational. Yes it may sound like a "waste", but it's also a waste when you use Haze on something else. I've only lost a handful of battles with my Mega Audino which boosts defences first and then special attack and it's fine. Unless you're being stupid and trying to boost against something that's obviously going to kill it, then it's going to be silly to stay in.

But at the end of the day, the entire tower is situational. You absolutely cannot be prepared for every single pokémon or moveset or item. So shrugging things off by saying they're bad isn't really bringing any ideas to the table. What we need to be doing is promoting different movesets because not everything will work for everyone.

I personally favour choice items on certain things, gems on another and bulkier things will get the boosts. It works for me (and seems to have worked for others) but not all.

Posted by: Synx Itax Aug 7 2017, 08:33 PM

So much talk about Battle Tower strategies. I vastly prefer Choice items to any others because I like to hit hard and fast. Gems are all right, but I've only used them in a couple of situations. Whatever works for each person, though.

I got Zapdos in Pokémon GO today! On my first raid, too (though I've not done another yet). Took me two balls to do it. happy.gif I'll have to go find a better one with higher IVs, but hey, I'll take the dex entry.

Omigosh I just hatched a shiny Lugia from the eggs sent out a few days ago! I cheered and scared someone in the other room, lol. Feeling pretty good!

I got Zapdos on my first raid in GO today, so now I have all the legendary birds! Out of all of them, Articuno was by far the most stubborn, it took me 5 attempts before I caught it. Moltres took two tries, and Lugia and Zapdos both only took one, with Zapdos going in after just two balls. Wonder what they'll release next. I'd guess Ho-Oh, personally.

So...this was just an extremely weird day. I had a 'do 2k interactions' requirement in my exploration, and I had nothing else to do today, so I finally went for the Master Clicker achievement. I got it, while doing and waiting in other parts of the Exploration, but at the end, I had to do 950 MORE after that achievement, so I did a staggering 14k interacticions, making me #39 in that regard as of right now, 10 minutes to daily reset. However, my unintentional generousity apparently didn't go unrewarded - not only did I get my Suicune egg today, finishing that one achievement of having all three legendaries from any said trio exploration, I also decided to fill my Egg Dex a bit with Eggs I never hatched yet. Low and behold, I hatched a very random Shiny Swirlix, probs because I was never close to ever SHing it. :P

- shiny link removed -

Now just to wait to buy a Whipped Dream, because Shiny Swirlixes themselves are kind of underwhelming. :P She actually hatched with an amazing nature, and decent IVs, too...I swear, if the Poke Hunt tomorrow is for Fairy types... xD

Shiny Lugia is one of my favorites, congrats!!!

Also, just had my third Cosmog event. Feeling pretty lucky with these lol! Trying to figure out what Pokemon to hunt next, I'm always looking for races!

I need to clear a couple spaces in my shine recorder first, but once I'm done I'd be up for racing a 10k egg. I still need Gible and Larvitar for my shiny mega set, and a race would be good motivation for it.

Back from my vacation. I was very happy since I finally managed to finish that hawlucha hunt from the Sept 2016 shiny hunt during the time I was away. Didn't do much clicking unfortunately since I was always on the go. Only have a few more hunts to complete from previous bimonthly shiny hunts that i signed up for now which is nice.

For the Magikarp I have apricot and brown still to get but I haven't seen them yet in the shelter so I might use my points to get them.

Yesterday when I was looking at the moltres egg I got from this month's distribution I had a weird feeling to sign up for a shiny hunt for it. I forgot to do so and I hatched my moltres egg this morning. It actually hatched shiny, I can't believe it! My very first shiny legendary. Though too bad i forgot to sign up for that hunt haha. Now I just need a shiny novelty cat.gif.

It's the most likely due to the next GO event in Japan.

I did 2 Zapdos raids today and didn't caught any of them. Since the gold type medals make a considerable difference I decided to quit for the day and hunt some electric types (was missing 10). Ended up the day with another Flaffy, Blissey and Hitmonlee (all with miserable IVs for competitive purposes) and 9 Chinchou lol at least now I won't feel like I'm wasting Premium Raid Passes.

Life-wise, yesterday I received my first parking ticket. 98€ lol. I had no idea that I couldn't park on that sidewalk as I had done it many times before (all the times with cars next to mine). Oh well. At least I won't lose any license points.

GPX-wise, I'm starting to lose my patience with the header events. Two whole months and not a single Wormhole. Guess I'll have to wait until October.

Posted by: Synx Itax Aug 8 2017, 07:30 PM

I got my second Zapdos today, but it has the same IVs as the one I caught yesterday. Both are at 75.6%. sad.gif Now, I won't transfer it as I tend to keep all of my legendaries, but I really wish it were at least 82.2% like everything else I have. Well, I'll see what tomorrow brings.

I'm definitely thinking that the next thing to be released will be Ho-Oh. I read somewhere that it's supposed to have at least 50000 CP, but I'm not sure how valid that source was. Wouldn't surprise me, though. Not like it'll matter since Rock moves will destroy it. Only thing I'd worry about is Solarbeam.

Also, may I take this moment to remind those of you with stuff hosted by Photobucket to find another host. Your images are all showing up as broken, and this includes avatars (Rita Zyon, I noticed that being the case with yours). You're not required to, but we can't see your images currently. I don't have to worry about the Poke Hunt this week. I grabbed a Spiritomb egg last night and this evening it hatched, with 160 IVs. I was quite surprised, I normally don't get anything good until like the last day of the Poke Hunt. I'm sure it'll snag first place, then again, I only entered the hunt for the Prize Points.

Work has been stupid, we've had THREE people quit in the span of two days. One of them was supposed to start today but she called in 10 minutes before her shift saying she wasn't working. Another just didn't bother to show up for work and the other worked a shift, said they were done after that shift. We're already short staffed due to people on vacation, now it's even worse. It's frustrating to say the least.

I know the feeling. I think a few people at the pub have time off so I'm doing nearly 40 hours this week and 40 hours next week to help out. I'm working Wedneday, Friday - Monday, next Wednesday and then Friday - Sunday x_x.gif

edit:

Whilst I'm here I've been meaning to ask, do any of you guys prep meals for the week in advance? I'm just starting to get into it and it's really fun.

I'm currently starting off small as I need to know things I can eat cold (so I can take it to work and not purchase extra food there), and sorting out breakfast. It sounds tedious but if you're like me and never know what to eat it's good. Plus you know your portion sizes, what you have to eat and what won't go to waste.

I ended up having mackerel with pesto sweet potato mash and vegetables for dinner, probably the tastiest thing I've eaten since moving here. I also managed to make 8 portions of veg to have with other things (which cost me maybe less than Ł2 in total?) - really am happy with where it's going. Saving me money and everything, plus I'm eating healthy.

Also overnight oats are amazing. I would definitely recommend them!

I just need more storage tubs to.. store food I make, heh. Making dinners to freeze then heat back up is fine, but at work there's no microwave so I might have to make wraps or something to take with me. Not exactly filling but it keeps down unnecessary costs!

In the oats theres: Plain rolled oats, semi skimmed milk, fat free greek yoghurt (makes it creamier), chia seeds, mixed berries and some strawberry whey protein powder. I usually mix it up so sometimes I use the powder and other times I like to add vanilla extract and honey happy.gif

It'll be 55251 CP. Only surpassed by Mewtwo (56557) at the moment.

Holy crap, that's right. It was something like that. Well... again, good thing there's that huge rock weakness. I didn't hear anything about Mewtwo yet, so that's nice to know.

Also Sam, I LOVE overnight oats. I don't really do any prep meals (although it's totally something I'd do), but I adore preparing overnight oats whenever I remember to and especially if I have somewhere to be the next morning. Our store carries pre-made oats that you simply add milk to or whatever your liquid of choice is, but I prefer making them myself. I use rolled oats (or sometimes steel cut if I'm out of rolled), some kind of nut milk (cashew being my favorite), peanut butter, a banana, goji berries, chia seeds, a touch of agave if I feel like it, and cocoa nibs. I may switch out the toppings depending on what I have, but that's my go-to right there. So good. <3

I haven't been able to get out to any Zapdos raids yet, but hopefully it won't be too painful to catch when I do! The weather's been pretty terrible here, wind, rain, thunderstorms, so that's been making raiding a little harder/bit unpleasant. I also managed to catch a 100% IV Tyranitar the other day too, which I'm pretty proud of! He's pretty useful for these legendary raids.

Now that we're in our new place together, my bf and I have been doing a bit of meal prep. It's mainly making up a big batch of something, like curry or a mince dish, for dinner one night, and then freezing the rest to take to work for lunches during the week.

My sister bought a Switch recently so I went over and played some Mario Kart with her last night. It was such good fun...even though it appears that I've lost my touch haha. I need to get around to doing my tax return, so whatever money I get from that, I can use to buy a Switch with wink.gif

Going to Manchester on Monday next week to have a go for Kangaskhan!

Posted by: Amberfunk Aug 9 2017, 06:25 PM

I usually only do meal prep right before I work saturday through tuesday. It makes it easier to have dinner either done or just have to throw it in a pan or something when I get home. After working 10-11 hours a day I just want to relax and put my feet and legs up as much as I can. I make slow cooker beans and rice or soup once a week and usually lasts a few days. I cut up green pepper and onion and made a vital wheat gluten loaf and made pepper steak with it.

Posted by: Luneon Aug 10 2017, 07:08 AM

I only do that with rice and potatoes.
My relatives want me to eat and prepare a variety of different foods per week.
Rice and potatoes go with anything so it's the easy choice.

Leftovers I don't throw away though.
Sometimes I accidentally make too much of something and then save it to eat at lunch the next day.

Posted by: Gym Leader Clay Aug 10 2017, 09:29 AM

Don't really do meal prep because my family is an unorganised mess. As with anything else it will be a habit I'll pick up from being with my girlfriend.

I've been trying to think of something interesting to say for two days and I'm just too tired and exhausted constantly. I'm actually a corpse right now.

I might as well ask though, there's a gpx discord server yeah? What is it? I just got discord yesterday. The only thing my weak ass did.

Yeah I try and do that too! If I can eat it cold I'll cover it up and make it with something for the next day. I might have to just accept I'll have to have wraps for work when I'm working, at least I know what's going in them then and keep track of what I'm eating sealed.gif lol

I keep regular tabs on offers, making sure I get rid of all the ones I don't need so I can identify new offers more easily and also allow for me to accept offers I do need.

It's quite annoying actually when a new rarity 1 trinket is out and in low supply and somebody offers something like a spatula.... I need to be more active in the trinket market. I did just use Chance Power and got 5 more rarity 10s out of it, so that's cool!

I try to read the stats for how many users need a trinket when I do make offers, but it feels really tedious having to scroll through the metric ton of trinkets I have... I wish we could filter out ones that no one actually needs so we could focus on what IS needed, thus more likely to get a response. Which reminds me, I should probably go check my offers since I finally garnered some free time.

I don't prepare meals beforehand, as of now I just grab a lunchable and take that to work, though I probably should get into a habit of making food either Saturday or Sunday and storing it to use for the week.

Also, Pecha berries for this little lady, please~

You know how in the second post there's people listed behind a Pokémon's name, right?
Well whoever wins the raffle gets to pick a Pokémon for next month's distribution list.
Usually about 3 people win.
You can only win by posting in the currently active community thread.

On Friday, the high school I work at had its "Feast Day", which is like a school festival day. Each homeroom puts up a stall, so there's always heaps of food and games around! At the end of the day there's also a concert. Some musically talented students get up on stage and perform songs in front of the whole school, and then the staff put on a performance for the students, which is always hilarious!

I've finally been able to sell a few of my baby lovebirds...three down, three to go! It's a bit sad seeing them go, after raising them since they were tiny, but it's nice to see their new families super happy to get them :')

When I'm not as active it changes once per few days, but when I do more stuff it sometimes even changes once or twice a day.

I don't think that's a glitch. It's an east sea body with west sea colors, which shouldn't be possible unless it was deliberately added in.

Either way, it definitely made me do a double-take when it popped out of the Egg haha. It just looks so odd.

You definitely got something rare, that's for sure! I've heard of single-gender Pokemon coming out as the gender they're not "supposed" to be, but a mutant Shellos is a first. God, getting a shiny one would be the dream. That might be a new pipe dream goal for me.

Reminds me of the time I was stalking the lab and found a broken egg image. I clicked it, which put a broken image in my party with no egg description. When it was ready to hatch... I ended up with a level 1 Torterra.

When I asked about it on the forums, I jokingly got a response that Cypress was experimenting with stem cells.

I remember someone from the really early days of the site somehow ended up with a level 255 Lugia. If the Blue Moons group ever gets revived, weird Pokemon like these totally deserve to be honorary members.

Posted by: Gigadweeb Aug 14 2017, 02:29 AM

Yeah. Seems like the level 255 Lugia's disappeared, unfortunately.

Aaaaaaand that's Hoenn Dex 100% completed! Apart from Shinies, of course. Normal Deoxys was my last mon to go.

I should do that with the rest tbh, but it's gonna be such a pain for Johto.

Also, does the removal of Legendary/Novelty limits apply to amount in your party, amount overall for shelter grabs or both? Might summon the rest of my stuff if it's the party limit.

I'm also currently waiting for my Youngster header event to turn into an Ultra Wormhole. Need 2 more Cosmog for my living dex.

I went out in the stormy weather this afternoon and finally managed to catch a Zapdos in Pokemon Go zapdos.gif Being the last day for it finally motivated me to actually do some raids for it ^^" I think a few people were thinking the same as we had a huge turnout to the raids despite the weather.

It isn't the last day. sweat.gif It was announced like an hour ago that Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres and Lugia will stay until August 31. This was part of the announcement of Mewtwo's release in Exclusive Raid battles.

I hadn't seen the icon of that before so I was really surprised to see it in person for the first time

With this I can finally complete my GPX+ Alola dex.

I released most of my Pokemon a while back to start fresh on a living dex, and it's making me realize that we practically have more Pokemon species than active users now. Most of the Pokemon I'm looking for aren't even in the egg shelter because there are only 0-2 people breeding them.

As far as I know, there's never been a limit to how many you could summon/obtain in a day, just how many your could have in your party at one time before others stopped showing up/were ungrabbable.

Posted by: Asbel Lhant Aug 14 2017, 07:02 PM

Another Cosmog egg is sitting in my party, maybe I'll finally get some shiny luck and it'll hatch shiny. I had Prankster in my header for two days before it turned into an Ultra Wormhole.

I'm still breeding for a shiny Zergoose and I ran out of Heart Sweets and I have two Zergoose eggs waiting for me. I decided to do Sweet Success to get some. I'm on the final task, this poor Teddiursa needs some bitter Rawst berries:

It's Shellos' frame 2 sprite in Diamond and Pearl and it's https://www.spriters-resource.com/resources/sheets/7/6956.png I never even paid attention to it before you brought it up, and I haven't noticed in in replaying Platinum lately either so I guess they corrected it starting with Plat.

EDIT: Woahhhhhh nevermind, I guess yeah wherever we pulled it from had incorrect sprites for West Shellos and Gastrodon's Diamond/Pearl frame 2 sprites. I'm seeing it on a bunch of sites with frame 2 sprite listings too, so I guess the games used West Shellos/Gastrodon internally with East designs for the default entries. Adding it to the bug list.

EDIT 2: Yup called it, the entry for IDs 422 and 423 are west's colours on east's design. The actual east and west versions are considered separate from the default.

I'm super stoked that all legendaries are sticking around for the rest of the month in Go, I missed out on catching an Articuno since that was before I joined our local Pokémon Go Discord to RSVP to raids. At least I had my first raid with one today but failed the catch. Stocked up on 5 Zapdos and 3 Moltres so far, which are what I mainly wanted for attacking gyms/raids for later gens. I'm still concerned about what the future is with legendary raids, but hopefully missing out on Lugia and the Kanto birds won't mean waiting an entire year.

Guess I gotta start looking for more of those Magikarps with everyone and their mothers getting shinies. Me, I'm stuck with a computer that as of now only works properly in Safe Mode. Then again it's well over 6 years old, so it's been through tons.

I gave up on PoGo because I live pretty much in the middle of nowhere and I don't see much going on even in the busier parts of town. Surprisingly I still have the app on my phone.

As for trinkets, I still have 89 left, including, embarrassingly enough, rarity 2 holiday trinkets in my affinity, so I'm going to need some help.

Oh man, looks like my arse is getting out to play Go again sometime soon then. I originally picked Mystic just in case the legendaries were team exclusive, so it's a good excuse to get the game running. not me tho, ofc ;^)

also, just 9 more days until my 18th! might get the bois over to play some Smash and emu some old PS1/2 games.

not to mention, just got my first Ultra Wormhole this morning.

Yeah...I didn't see that announcement until later last night after I posted that ^^" I'm interested to see how these Mewtwo raids will work out, especially in smaller towns hmm.gif

Given that the announcement of the legendary birds staying longer didn't happen until around 9/10pm on the 14th my time, we were all still under the knowledge that the 14th was the last day for Zapdos...hence we spent all afternoon raiding for it. And then later that night once we all get home, it's announced that it's staying xD.gif

I'm going to dedicate an entire PC box just to Magikarp after enough of those exist. Counting the two 'jump' sprite alts for basic Magikarp

Yo, so out of curiosity, do we have ads running on reddit for this game? It might help get a few new fresh players in, at least, especially considering bulletin-style forums are more and more niche now. Might be worth investing some of the donation money we get towards running a bit of an ad campaign.

On that note, one more week until my 18th, so I'll probably chuck a few dollarydoos this way, get a honey day running.

Posted by: YoRHa No9 Type S Aug 17 2017, 03:43 AM

Not sure how I feel about that. Aside from my personal distaste for the (stereo)typical Reddit community, I'm not sure it'd really be worth the cost. Maybe it's just my own cynicism showing, but AdBlock is so ubiquitous and people generally hate ads so much that I don't really see it drawing a lot of people in.

Posted by: Gigadweeb Aug 17 2017, 06:38 AM

While that's true (I'm not a big fan of the reddit community either, they show a sickening love for fascism that can be observed if you look in the bigger subs like t_d), I still think even a few extra regulars would be good to help keep this place alive. I mean, we won't go under for a good while, but still, as I said, some fresh players would be good to help liven up the place (especially considering the fact that pretty much every subforum apart from this one is dead).

Both of those Magikarp are adorable <3 It would be nice if they made an appearance on here in the future! But for now, maybe I should actually get back into playing Magikarp Jump...haven't played it for a month or so ^^"

My Yuri Katsuki nendoroid came in the mail yesterday cat.gif I've finally set up my display cabinet so I can actually unbox and display my nendoroids now.

Posted by: Synx Itax Aug 17 2017, 12:48 PM

I'm loving the updates to Magikarp Jump!, but I've not gotten either of the two new colors yet. The blue is really lovely. happy.gif I'm pretty far along in that game (currently doing the Elite Four League or whatever it's called), so it's nice to have new stuff to do/collect. Apparently, Rowlet is a great Pokémon to add to the tank and max out since it gives so many coins, but I'm currently working on obtaining Snorlax so that I can get the event from having it.

Someone asked a few pages back if it's rude to PM someone and ask them if they can wait to donate their eggs. My answer is yes since people have various reasons as to when they donate eggs and shouldn't be asked to do something they may not feel comfortable with. I donate eggs right away because I don't like having the Daycare notification, and if I have a novelty to grab, I just grab it. That said, I am open to waiting to donate if I am breeding some rare or highly desired thing, so when I am finished with this Crystal Onix hunt, I am willing to donate eggs later than usual if someone would like me to breed something in particular.

Here's your daily (okay, weekly?) Photobucket check: If you have a signature/icon with a Photobucket-linked image, please change hosts! I see a few stragglers around, and I'm sure you'd like people to see whatever cool art you may have. happy.gif

Yeah, I don't think going to a Reddit-style forum would be ideal. Just sayin'. Redditors can be obnoxious enough as it is, and we don't want more folks like that on here, do we? Besides, what if a shift towards more traditional forums like this happens, like, say, tomorrow? We'd be hosed if we decided to switch to Reddit just because it's more popular. These things are cyclical trends. While Reddit may be all the rage these days, I'm sure we'll get a period of time when the proverbial pendulum swings back towards traditional forums again.

Also, seconding that PB checking thing. I've seen so many broken image links it's crazy. I'd like to see that fixed if possible. nod.gif

I dunno, I wouldn't be opposed to politely asking people (or being asked) to hold off on donating. Who knows, maybe they just don't realise. I think it can be done without being rude. But I would be a bit leery of doing it myself.

So reddit can be a pretty nice place in some places. Yeah the admins are spineless and it's still got the_donald on it, but smaller subs can have very nice communities. I think we could manage to curate a good one, the staff does a good job with this forum. That's if we were going to bother, this forum here is still a good way to discuss this site. I don't see any reason to abandon it like we did IRC. But I really don't think that forums are coming back, that's just not the way most people browse the internet nowadays. I don't see any cycles in it.

There's nothing that can be done on our side to change those PB images, by the way, short of mods editing signatures to remove them. I know it was a pain to move all my stuff over but it didn't take all that long, and I'd a much rougher time since I'm still maintaining an art shop!

Posted by: YoRHa No9 Type S Aug 17 2017, 02:37 PM

Back when I played Magikarp Jump, I focused all my efforts into getting Meowth and Rowlet and maxing them out, and using all those coins to upgrade food. You can use food constantly, so imo it's a better investment than training upgrades. Shiny Magikarp always give a bonus to coins earned, so if I ever fished up a shiny I'd keep it a few days and let my coins accumulate.

This is a less viable strategy later in the game, since eventually it becomes ridiculously expensive to upgrade even Oran and Sitrus Berries, but it's a good way to cheese it until level 65-70-ish.

I went to work today and decided to head home because I wasn't feeling well. I've been feeling pretty lousy the past couple days, my acid reflux has gone into overdrive lately. It sucks because work has slowly been picking up now that kids will be back in school within the next couple weeks. I can't afford to be sick.

I had to do a first aid course back on Tuesday for my job, it was pretty interesting. I did a first aid course about 15 years ago and a LOT has changed. It is interesting to see/hear what used to be popular and what they use now. Having to do CPR on a dummy is pretty weird to say the least.

Well, seeing as I'm home sick, I decided to do the Tour of Illusions. This poor Zoroark wants some berries so I can send it on its way home:

On the topic of donating eggs right away... I do that, I usually just pick an egg or two and just donate them as soon as I see the Daycare notification, because tbh I almost never get premature eggs, so I never realized this would be an issue. With the new jump 'karps though, I can see how it can be really annoying to have them reach full maturity quickly, so I try to wait at least until xx:00 (I'm malachite, so my eggs are laid at xx:32) before donating. If I'm at work though, I might just log in for a moment and check the Daycare, so I might donate a bit earlier just to get more eggs into the system, so I'm sorry if any of my eggs end up premature.

That said, I decided that this might be a good time to go for Undaunted, since a lot of people are breeding the new 'karp. Already got a Black shiny yesterday, currently hunting Purple happy.gif

Oh, sorry. I misunderstood the original post. I didn't think it was about advertising and what not. My bad. blush.gif

On the other hand, I'm having a good day on GPX+ today. My first rank 1 in the Poké Hunt and my first Ultra Wormhole. ^_^.gif

This will be the month I stay on top of the tasks list!

Posted by: AregularFrankiefan Aug 18 2017, 04:32 PM

Gah, that reminds me. I haven't even done any of the Scavenger Hunt tasks yet..Too busy trying to level up my already-existing Pokemon and make some more progress on my shiny hunts. Maybe I'll try to check off at least 1 or 2 tasks at some point, though, I still need that Achievement where you complete 20 different tasks.

Then again, I still need a lot of Achievements.

Posted by: Mars Adept Enten Aug 18 2017, 07:57 PM

The Cosmog I ended up getting had 2 perfect IVs and one almost-perfect one. oh.gif Might try to go for Solgaleo with this one. happy.gif

I'm wishing for some more variety with the scavenger hunt tasks for the rest of the month. Apart from one day where we had a trinket task, the only one kinds we've had are the color and type ones. I'm even hoping for a nature task in the future at this point. I know it sounds a bit petty but it gets old. I am breeding some Crabrawler for anyone who plans on using one though.

There could be a lot more variety regarding scavenger tasks. And the list goes on.

I'm kinda hesitant to ruin this nice, round number.

Posted by: Mars Adept Enten Aug 19 2017, 11:45 AM

Finally! I finally managed to get a Crabrawler egg. I guess bitching about not being able to find one helped? *shrugs* All I need now are the Tapu eggs and I have a complete egg 'Dex for Alola up to today. Granted, that will change when we get the new Alola batch, but still...

On the topic of the scavenger tasks:

I'm using the scavenger tasks to get some clicking done for Arceus explo whenever I can.
Unfortunately missed the first day but hey still plenty more tasks to go
At the same time I'm also working on achievements which require mons which align nicely with that.

Posted by: Asbel Lhant Aug 19 2017, 02:25 PM

I'm finally off a weekend for the first time in a month. We've had so many people go on vacation at the same time that I had no choice but to work it. The first thing I did was sleep until noon laughing.gif. It is so nice to be able to wake up and not have to get ready for work.

Last night I couldn't find any of the Pokemon for today's task so I took my Grey Magikarp out of the daycare and put in a Crabrawler. Less than 5 minutes later, I found a Tyrogue egg facepalm.gif. I decided to leave the Crabrawler in the daycare for now for those people still looking.

I'm doing a few explorations I haven't done in a while, I started with Notched Ear Pichu. This Scyther needs some Chesto berries so it can wake up:

Well you certainly helped me out. Thanks to you, Asbel Lhant, I got a complete egg 'Dex for Alola save for the Tapus. nod.gif And she has some pretty good IVs and nature: 31 HP, 29 ATK, and 30 SPD with total IVs of 153. The only not-so-great one is SDEF at 17. And with a Lonely nature, she'll be a good physical attacker too. happy.gif

So you really did help at least one user by breeding Crabrawlers.

Oh I agree,
I hate hate HATE the specific color and type tasks, the options are usually so few which makes it harder to find some. Often resulting in me having to breed it just to save time in order to actually get to level it up on time.

Posted by: Synx Itax Aug 19 2017, 04:09 PM

I wouldn't mind more variety with Scavenger Hunt tasks, but only if they're still fair. For instance, I don't think Battle Tower tasks would be a great idea since a lot of people can't even get two consecutive wins, much less five (particularly if they're just starting out and have an awful selection of Battle Tower stuff). Now, if there was some sort of Scavenger Hunt NPC who was super easy to beat, then that'd be fine with me. wink.gif

Meanwhile, anyone can grab something from the Shelter. Things I'd like to add would be stuff like buying an item from the shop (regular points, not prize), using the VS seeker, etc. Nothing that involves prerequisites that are too excessive.

Anyone interested in the eclipse on the 21st? I'm not bothering with it since we only have a 50% chance of even seeing it, but I know other people are all ready with their eclipse glasses and stuff.

That is my number of level 100 pokémon. I like to hoard pokémon, which is also why I am dangerously low on box space!

I got a pair of glasses to view the eclipse on the 21st. I wish the eclipse was tomorrow instead, so it could be on my birthday :P! Oh well.

I wonder when the remaining pokemon will be released!

Posted by: Mars Adept Enten Aug 19 2017, 10:41 PM

Yeah, I'm super-interested in the eclipse. Granted, where I live, at best I'll only have a 90-95% eclipse. If I wanted to bug my folks into going somewhere like say, central Nebraska, I would be able to see a true total eclipse.

And I finally managed to get my Crabrawler up to Lv. 10 for this scavenger hunt task. Hopefully, tomorrow's won't be as bad. irritated.gif (It took me forever to get it up to the proper level, but that may have been more due to me not doing as many clickbacks as I did yesterday...)

Also, I support the 'more variety in ScavHunt tasks' thing too. Don't know if I can really add much more to what has already been said, though.

Posted by: Alchemists Fire Aug 20 2017, 02:15 AM

I was very relieved for a low-level task xD I hate the ones that they want lvl 50+ cause I usually can't even find/hatch the Pokemon that meets the requirements in time.

Um. Does anyone notice something about one of the Pokemon in today's task? Are we going to be able to type-change a certain Ultra Beast soon?

I'd like some scavenger task variety as well. Preferably stuff that can help newbies with the completion of achievements.
Now I'm no newbie but why not hitting 2 birds with 1 stone xD

As for the eclipse, all the hype surrounding the it and people buying stuff last minute thinking they're going to get amazing photographs without having any photography knowledge whatsoever... ehhh
It just makes me wish the eclipse time is short so we can get it over with asap. It hasn't even started it and I'm already tired of seeing stuff about it ^^;

How many do you plan on having at lv 100? All of them or just specific ones?

Posted by: Myou Aug 20 2017, 08:13 AM

Huh... i should definitely see about finishing the last task on DOTW (and level some battle tower mons while I'm at it) so I can start one of the two legend explorations before the month ends. Of course, I still have to go shopping for lesson plan supplies and paint swatches for our school room's welcome board (going to turn them into popsicles).

If they're just starting out, it's not like they'll have a lot of Pass Orbs (nature tasks) or Pokéchests (trinkets) too. By Battle Tower I didn't meant the NPCs but rather the Battle Subway. 5 consecutive wins is perfectly doable since there are a lot of "easy" teams. And that way, maybe it could encourage people to battle more.

I'm not opposing to a Scavenger Hunt NPC. It could be the starter point to that streak for example. That way people would have an almost guaranteed victory.

Posted by: YoRHa No9 Type S Aug 20 2017, 02:22 PM

Speaking of the Battle Tower, I've found that scavenger hunts are a great incentive to put together a good team anyway. The Exp All is a fun and easy way to level stuff up. :D

I know this isn't the shiny thread but I'm still so blown away by what just happened so I have to talk about it.
Last Friday I sniped a Lugia from the lab while looking for a Groudon. I corrupted it in hopes it was shiny and jokingly commented about it in the discord server.
Fast forward to today and the egg hatches into a shiny Shadow Lugia.

I don't know what kind of black magic I did to cause this to happen but could it happen more often please thanks

Oh yeah, I didn't think about Pass Orbs or Pokéchests. Well, all things considered, I'd still not want to involve the Battle Tower too much (and I know you meant the Subway), but I definitely can see how it'd encourage battling. It really doesn't help that using the Battle Tower is super awkward on mobile for a lot of people, and that might get frustrating. I'm just more into something like "Participate in five consecutive battles" or "Battle in the VS Seeker' as opposed to having to win the battles.

No idea if varied tasks would ever be a thing that will happen anyway, but we'll see.

I still haven't gotten new Magikarp patterns in the Jump! game. sad.gif All I have left are the new ones as well as Brown Tiger. I also realized that I need to get way more diamonds for the Dratini event, so... ugh.

Posted by: Tyranisaur Aug 21 2017, 10:10 AM

Honestly, making a scavenger task like "win 5 battle subway battles in a row" is probably not that good of an idea. Not because it's going to be hard for some users. We really could go with more challenging tasks. However, the kind of users that would appreciate more challenging tasks are probably also the kind of users that would laugh all the way to bank from such a task.

Posted by: Running On Ice Aug 21 2017, 11:07 AM

I agree with Synx on this. I would like a bigger variety with new types of tasks, as long as they're all simple enough for the newer users, but I'm still a little peeved about getting these same types involving color and type.

I'll try and watch the eclipse. I don't have the special glasses so I obviously can't look directly into it but I think there's a way even without the glasses.

Posted by: Mars Adept Enten Aug 21 2017, 11:11 AM

Yeah, and because some folks aren't terribly good at getting a winning streak to even begin with (*coughs, points to self*) I'm no newb, don't get me wrong. If anything, I'm more of a vet. I'm just not good at battling other folks on here. Which is why I only do BT when it's needed for an Explo. And I haven't done either the VS Seeker or BS in a long time. Besides, not to denigrate the efforts of all the wonderful users on here, but if I want to battle, I'd rather just boot up an actual Pokémon game instead. I'm on here to collect, not battle. Seriously, just look at my battle stats over on GPX+ to see how bad I am at that. I'm definitely no top 100 battler, I tell you.

On the other hand, I got my pair of eclipse glasses, so now I'm ready for that. happy.gif

EDIT: Also, yes, there is a way to view the eclipse without the special glasses. You can make a pinhole projector and view it like that as well. You can probably find tutorials on how to make them online, and you don't need too much to make one, either. Also, I'll see if I can't take a pic of it with my 3DS. I want a physical keepsake of the first total eclipse I've been around for. grin.gif
