James was sitting there and wanted to see exactly what this poster sign said. He had previously payed the waiter and was ready to leave. His friends were ready and so was he, this poster seemed to have magically gained James attention. From the table they were sitting at he tried to decipher what it said. Unluckily he couldn't, so he hoped out of his seat and then pushed it back into place. He had left it how he had found it, the waiter would soon come and take the plates back for cleaning. James thought it was awfully nice for the waiter to do that instead of him the guest having to do it.

James, Kaya and Rose all headed towards the door as Kaya opened the door and James followed her out. Kaya had headed straight towards the sign to see what it said. James rushingly followed behind her as he could now understand what the sign had said. It had said 'Compete in the Pokeathlon. Were everyone is a winner!". James could see the images of the poster and it showed pokemon competing in different events, one he could easily depict was a block smash. He didn't know whether the Pokeathlon Leader would compete with that event or not. But James wanted to try out the Pokeathlons, they looked really fun.

As James then watched a Pawniard creep over towards Kaya he strangely looked at her wondering what was going on. The guy behind it seemed to be it's trainer. Kaya had only just met her and he seemed like a nice guy so far. His name was Luke, he looked pretty tough from what James knew but James was only eleven this guy had to be at least fifteen or no less. James wondered what to do now as he thought maybe later he would try to practice for the Pokeathlon, but James felt the wanting need to have a battle. He looked at Rose, Kaya and Luke and then said,

"Hey, I was just thinking, to kill some time anyone wanna have a 2 on 2 battle? The teams could be Kaya and Luke, and Rose and myself?"

James eagerly awaited the decision as he felt an itch on his arm from a mosquito that had just bitten him. James waved his hand as a more elderly lady was walking by, she waved back as James didn't know why he had waved. All James knew was that he was trying to swat away that mosquito. But it wasn't to bad, the lady seemed nice and didn't get angry with him. James then focused on his friends and the newcomer as he awaited the answer. It would be a perfect way to test out either Joltik or Sandile seeing as they hadn't yet battled.

"You're on!" Kaya said. She hadn't battled with Attila yet, so now would be a good time to see how the psyduck did at battling. It was also a chance to get an idea of if she could stand up to a gym leader. She looked over over at Luke, who shrugged and nodded. He sent out a ghastly that looked ready to start a battle.

"How many pokemon should we each use?" Kaya asked. If she had the chance, she also wanted to work with Pede-erpat. She still didn't know much about the venipede's battle style, so she couldn't work on his strengths like he did with Manera, Flit, and Miner.

Rose followed the others out of the restaurant, Pokemon trailing after her, and peered at the poster. "Pokeathlon, huh? It looks pretty fun..." She trailed off as she looked at the fine print below the larger text. "Oh. It says that you must have a minimum of three Pokemon to participate." She frowned, leaning back. "Well, that's a problem. I've only got Alaia and Ciar -- whoa! What the --?" she yelped, jerking backwards as a heavy weight suddenly leaped onto her back. She turned around, craning her neck backwards in an attempt to see whatever had attached to her. All she managed to see was a flash of bright blue before her attention was pulled away by a shout from down the street.

"Hey, you!" a rough voice barked. Rose looked up to see an irate young man, soaking wet, sprinting down the street towards her. "Girl over there! Have you seen a Panpour around here?" the man asked in between pants as he reached her, scowling heavily. "Little blue monkey-thing. Sprayed me when I tried to grab it..."

"Uh, no, sorry," Rose said quickly, backing up a bit so that the thing clinging to her -- and she was beginning to suspect what it was -- was more hidden from view. She didn't like the look of this man; he seemed rather unpleasant and vicious, somehow.

Luckily for her (and the Panpour), he didn't seem to be paying much attention. "Tch. Some help you were," he groused, brushing past her and beginning to run again. "Stupid thing... when I catch it, I'm gonna..." he muttered as he left.

Rose blinked after him for a moment, then turned (or tried to turn, at least) to what she was now sure was the runaway Panpour. "Alright, could you get off me now?" she asked.

Instead, the Panpour -- as she could now see that it indeed was -- clambered onto her shoulder. It leaned uncomfortably close, staring at Rose intently. She jerked her head back a bit, slightly unnerved. Finally, the blue monkey seemed to have finished its inspection. It moved back to a slightly more comfortable distance, nodding approvingly, and pointed at an empty Pokeball on Rose's belt. Rose blinked, glancing downwards. "You... want me to catch you?" she guessed, looking back at the Panpour. It nodded eagerly, with a bright smile. "Well, okay then." Rose pulled out the empty Pokeball and pressed the button as she pointed it at the Panpour. It turned into a stream of energy, and was immediately sucked into the ball, which clicked almost immediately -- the Panpour hadn't even tried to struggle.

Rather bemused, Rose stared at the Pokeball in her hand for a moment before shrugging and pressing the button again. The Panpour reappeared, beaming up at her. Rose found herself smiling back in spite of herself, and took a closer look at the water monkey. "Okay. You're a girl, so I think I'll call you Nina -- you look like a Nina to me. How's that sound?"

The newly-dubbed Nina nodded enthusiastically, giving a happy "Pan!" in response. Alaia and Ciar greeted their new teammate, the Cottonee more enthusiastically than her Zorua teammate.

As the Pokemon talked, Rose turned back to her friends, laughing sheepishly. "Uh. So... nice to meet you, Luke. I'm Rose," she introduced herself, a little belatedly. "And I'd be fine with a battle!" she added, smiling. "Guess I'll be using Nina here for that, then, since I need to see how she fights..." She gave her Pokemon a questioning look; Nina smiled and gave a playful salute in response, and the more senior two seemed approving as well. Reassured, Rose looked back up at the other trainers. "As for numbers, I've only got three total, so we can't use more than that each."
