Unofficial GTS+ Pokemon League
Hey everyone! I've become fairly inactive since the original GTS+PL was disbanded, and there are no plans for it to be restarted. I personally loved the idea of having user-owned Gyms within the GTS+ community, but for various reasons it didn't work out.
So now I'm coming to the Battles Forum to look for other users that are interested in starting an (Unofficial) GTS+ Pokemon League!
For those of you unfamiliar with the original GTS+PL, this is how GTS+ ran the league, to my memory
- Potential for one Gym of each type: effectively a total number of 18 possible Gyms
- Each Gym had a Gym Leader (a user with that position), and sometimes trainers (such as the swimmers in Cerulean Gym, testing the trainer before they got to Misty)
- Each Gym Leader had a public roster of 10 Pokemon (85% of which rounded up had to be that Gym's type; otherwise had to know a move of that Gym's type) from which they could choose to battle the challenger
- Each Gym had their own battle format (3x3 singles, 4x4 singles, 6x6 doubles, etc.), which the challenger could choose from
- If the challenger lost along the way to beating the Gym Leader, they would have to resubmit a challenge application and rechallenge the Gym from the beginning
- However if they won, they were given prizes: that Gym's Badge, and a Pokemon (usually GameSharked/Action Replayed into the Gym Leader's game) that was often shiny, had perfect IVs, etc.
Like I mentioned before, I'm looking for other users interested in starting something similar, albeit this GTS+PL wouldn't be sanctioned by GTS+ itself. For those interested in the initial specifics of what I was thinking, you can read through this.
Similarities and Differences (click to showhide)
Similar to original GTS+PL
- Possibility of 18 Gyms. Self explanatory, there would be potentially one Gym for each type of Pokemon.
- Roster of 10. Each Gym Leader would have a list of 10 Pokemon they can choose from for their battle. Should there be Gym trainers, the challenger would not be permitted to switch out Pokemon in between battles (if the challenger went into a 3x3 battle with Mega Venusaur, Blastoise and Charizard, they can't switch within one Gym to Venusaur, Mega Blastoise and Steelix). This applies to Pokemon, their moves, their held items, etc.
- Gym Trainers. Each Gym could have a number of Gym trainers that are "weaker" than the actual Gym Leader - they may be limited to 3-4 Pokemon instead of 6 like the Gym Leader. Challengers would be required to defeat all of the Gym Trainers within a Gym before challenging the Gym Leader.
- 85% Gym Typing. 85%, rounded up, of the 10-Pokemon roster would have to be that Gym's type. Any Pokemon that do not match that Gym's type would need to know a move of that Gym's type.
- Smogon's tier system. The Pokemon League Gyms would abide by Smogon's tier list. All Gym Battles would consist of Pokemon in the OU tier, unless a reasonable argument can be made otherwise.
- Gym-specific battle format. Each Gym would have the option of customizing what types of battles the challengers would embark on. Possibilities include Number of Pokemon per Team (1x1, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, 6x6), Number of Pokemon on the Field (singles, doubles), and potentially Tertiary Battle Conditions (Tier Shift Battles and Inverse Battles - must make sense with the Gym!).
Dissimilar to original GTS+PL
- Battle Platform. Original GTS+PL was done over wi-fi on player's console games: DPPt, HGGS, etc. Because of the staggering number of incompatible games, and the fact that not all potential challengers will have the games that each Gym Leader has (i.e. challenger has Diamond, Gym Leader has Black), these League battles would be held over http://pokemonshowdown.com/ to ensure that everyone can battle the Gym Leader and Gym trainers.
- Different Gym Conditions. Each Gym would have the option of limiting the battlefield or Pokemon used. Apart from clauses, such as the Item Clause and Species Clause, several other conditions are possible. For, example, a water type gym, the challenger may require a water-type Pokemon on their team to (theoretically) get to the Gym; or a flying-type Pokemon (or levitate?) to get to the flying-type gym. The Gym may also be limited to Gen 1 OU battles, or something similar.
Up in the air
- Rewards. Obviously each challenger would receive a Gym Badge should they beat the Gym, but should there be a secondary prize? If so, what?
- Level Restrictions. If we are to use Smogon's Battle Simulator! as the medium for the League battles, it becomes incredibly easy for challengers (and Gym trainers/Gym Leaders, for that matter) to make a team of perfect-IV Pokemon with an ideal natures, EVs, and moves. Because of this, to make the Gym Battles a challenge for challengers (as they should be), should we place a level restriction on the gyms? One possibility is that in a 6x6 battle, the Gym Leader can have a team of level 100s, while the challenger's Pokemon can range from level 90-100, but the total level sum can't exceed 570, effectively limiting them to a team of level 95-Pokemon on average.
Nothing in this post is by any means final, so if you think have any ideas that could improve on the potential GTS+PL, please say so! And if you're interested in participating in the GTS+PL, whether as a challenger or a potential Gym Leader, PLEASE say so! If we get enough people interested we can start a Pokemon League and have a bit of fun, friendly competition between players!
Thanks to all for reading!

Seems interesting. I'm good in the Mixed OU field, so I could become Gym Leader. But I'm fine with just being a challenger.
How much attention do you think this will get?

Honestly, I'm not sure. After a few weeks we'll see how many are interested and gauge if it's worth investing our time in or not. I'll keep you posted

I've got an Electric team that I would gladly use. Assuming this gets enough interest we could set up a reddit (probably easier to check than here) that I could help administrate.
Or we could just post here, but Reddit seems better in that there can be multiple administrators who can set up pinned posts.

Nitrodog96- I'm not familiar with Reddit at all, so if you'd be willing to help out with that that'd be great!
