Typhlosion Pokedex #: 157 Type: Fire Evolution line: (lvl 14) -> (lvl 36) -> Bases stats: HP: 78 Atk: 84 Def: 78 SpA: 109 SpD: 85 Spe: 100 Total Base stats: 534 Tier: Borderline (BL) Strengths: Bug, Grass, Steel, Ice. Weaknesses: Water, Rock, Ground. No effect against: None. Resists: Bug, Steel, Fire, Grass. Immune to: None. Ability: Blaze, boosts power of Fire moves 50% when at 1/3 HP or less. Movesets: 1. Mixed Choice Scarf Lead Typhlosion@ Choice Scarf Mild/Rash Blaze 144 Atk / 252 SpA / 112 Spe Eruption EarthQuake/HP Ice ThunderPunch/Focus Punch/Brick Break Flamethrower/Overheat Typhlosion's movepool may be a little limited, but it can prove to be a good lead with choice scarf. With 112 EVs in Speed, it allows it to outrun anything up to 130 base speed, aside from fellow choice scarfers. Eruption is a must for this set, allowing a speedy and powerful punch with a 150 base power STAB move. Although, if he were to be damaged, you need a good back up fire move, such as Flamethrower or Overheat. EQ is there to hit an unexpecting Heatran, while HP Ice gets those pesky dragons. For the last slot, ThunderPunch hits water types, mostly Gyarados, for an unexpecting counter, while Focus Punch can hit the ever so annoying Blissey, although doesn't work too well with this set, making Brick Break another choice. 2. Special Choice Scarf Lead Typhlosion@ Choice Scarf Modest Blaze 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Hp Eruption HP Ice/HP Grass OverHeat/Flamethrower Focus Blast A strictly special version of the first set. Due to lack of physical moves, you don't need to put any IVs into attack, so they can be put into speed, making this Typhlosion faster than the Mixed version. HP Grass hits Swampert, a huge threat to Typhlosion, but HP ice gets dragons, and can 2 hit KO Salamence. Overheat or Flamethrower are backups for Eruption, if Typhlosion were to be damaged. Overheat offers more power for the first hit, but the lower in Special attack isn't too appealing. 3. SunnyBeamer Typlosion@ Leftovers/Heat Rock Timid/Modest Blaze 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Hp Eruption/Fire Blast/Flamethrower HP Ice/HP Electric/Focus Blast SolarBeam Sunny Day Sunny day is a great move for Typhlosion, or any other fire types for that matter. Personally, I'd use Flamethrower over the other two options, due to having more accuracy than Fire Blast and having a stable Base attack power. With SolarBeam, you can use HP Electric if you'd like, to get Gyarados a scare, although SolarBeam can do some good damage to him as well. 4. Casual Sweeper Typhlosion@ Life Orb Hasty/Naive Blaze 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Atk Flamethrower HP Ice/Grass/Electric Focus Blast Earthquake/Will-o-Wisp A casual Special Sweeper with a little hint of physical, if you'd like. With Life Orb attached, Eruption is not a good idea on this type of Typhlosion. Earthquake can hit Heatran and other Flash Fire pokemon, but Will-o-wisp is never bad to have. For HP, there are three options this time, and it's up to you. Ice gets rid of any Gliscor and Dragon problem, although creates problems when facing Swampert. Grass gets rids of any Swampert scares, but gives Typhlosion not options for the likes of Salamence and Dragonite. Electric solves the Gyarados threat, but is no good against Swampert or Dragons. 5. lol physical sweeper? Typhlosion@ Life Orb/Liechi Berry Adamant Blaze 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Hp Flare Blitz/Fire Punch Thunder Punch EarthQuake/Howl Shadow Claw/Howl A moveset to trick your opponent and is just crazy enough to work. In D/P, Typhlosion gets a good list of Physical moves, along with howl to boost his attack. Although, I don't recommend this set, unless you really know what you are doing. EQ is more valued over Shadow Claw, and Howl should really be there for this set. Flare Blitz is a powerful STAB move, which will be your most used attack. If you don't like it's recoil, along with the extra loss of HP from Life Orb, it can be swapped for Fire Punch. Other Options: SubBlaze is also a good option for Typhlosion. And despite it's good physical movepool, it shouldn't go completely physical, unless you do know what you're doing. Counters: Stealth Rock really takes a toll on Typhlosion, as with most fire types. Gyarados can make quick work of Typhlosion. Blissey/Snorlax can wall Typhlosion pretty easily, as long as they look out for Focus Punch/Blast. Swampert is a huge threat to this Fire starter. With out HP Grass, it really has no hope against it. And if you have HP Grass, not Ice, dragons like Kingdra and Salamence can run through this pretty easy. Final Thoughts Typhlosion is pretty underrated in my opinion. It's the only Pokemon that can successfully pull of the Eruption Scarf, which is what it's best at, and can set up a good SunnyBeamer if used right. And it's good physical move pool can really surprise some players. This post has been edited by Geoffrey: Jan 3 2009, 03:52 PM -------------------- |

I can tell. You have a very good working brain to post this stuff without giving up or getting bored/tired.

Why, thank you! I plan on making one for Dragonite, or Scizor, or Porygon-Z, or something.... maybe Espeon.
*EDIT* Yeah, I pretty much neglected SubBlaze.... but I'll add it in at a later time. This post has been edited by Geoffrey: Nov 30 2008, 10:57 PM -------------------- |
