Uprising

Two decades ago, the northern Hoenn city now known as "Noverus" was seized by Team Magma, under the control of High Commander Tyson. Under his rule, intimidation became law, and citizens feared his ruthless Elite Operatives. This reign lasted until approximately eight years ago, when a group of Magma Grunts defected and formed The First Rebellion. Under their council leadership, the Rebellion challenged Magma's rule until Magma retaliated. Launching patrols colloquially labelled as "Sector Sweeps" by civillians, Team Magma Elites managed to arrest and detain the Rebels in their fortification outside the city known as "The Keep". Hidden deep in the forested valleys and mountains to the north of the city, this facility served as a prison, this facility ensures that escape is impossible.

Prior to the defeat of the First Rebellion, Tyson ordered the renovation of the central tower in the city into his base of operations. What was previously a large corporate office is now a horrid, dark monolith known as "Groudon's Thumb". This cruel spire serves as the headquarters for Team Magma in New Terra. Tyson ensured that neither Groudon's Thumb nor The Keep would be infiltrated by Rebel forces as long as he remained in power.

Elsewhere on the banks of the river on which the city was built, Team Aqua has moved in and set up outposts. Under the command of High Commander Lucy, Aqua moved in during nightfall and seized a warehouse on the docks inside New Terra. From there, they have moved in operatives and gear, preparing to one day claim New Terra for themselves. While all of this has occurred, Lucy and a large number of Aqua's Elites discovered a cave upstream from the city. From here, they established something they call "Kyogre's Maw", which has rivalled Magma's fabled fortress. As well, Aqua has sought out to seize the hydroelectric dam upstream, yet they have lost the site numerous times right after Magma came to take it back.

After the First Rebellion was crushed, citizens began to lose faith in becoming free. After struggling through 18 long years of oppression, Rebels have held secret meetings and recruited trainers from across the regions in order to spread their simple message.

Freedom is on the rise.

The History of Team Magma in Noverus:
Team Magma began scouting out possible locations for their base of operations in Hoenn around two decades ago. At first, they seized the mountains to the north of the city. Next, they mined out the caves in the mountain range in order to supply their operations locally and throughout Hoenn. Sometime afterwards, the previous Commander went off on an expedition with a man known as Officer Tyson. During this expedition to scout out more mining sites, the Commander disappeared, and was never seen again. Magma operatives reported that Tyson was "mentally unstable upon arriving to the outpost". Tyson managed to gain leadership over the local operation shortly after the disappearance of his Commander, whom as far as everyone else was concerned, was dead. After two years of seemingly "silent" times for the citizens, whom were unaware of Magma to begin with, Magma captured the hydroelectric dam that supplied the city with power. The dam was used as a bargaining chip with the city. Magma negotiated with the city's mayor and urged him to surrender the city to Magma. The mayor reluctantly agreed, and was soon overthrown when Magma swept into the city. Once Magma gained control of the city, they cut off access to the outside world. Over the course of several years, Magma established several outposts and large facilities within the city.

The History of Team Aqua in Noverus:
Once Magma held the city, talk of their achievement spread throughout their rival's faction like wildfire. Team Aqua's Leader, Archie, assigned a Commander to supervise an operation to take over the city. The promise of resources and the largest base for any faction seemed worthwhile to Aqua, so they set out to take over the city. At first, Aqua made a mad rush to seize the hydroelectric dam, yet their efforts failed. The struggle for this site lasted for over a year, ending in failure. At best, Aqua only held the facility for three hours. Aqua's grief-stricken Commander decided that Aqua needed to set up elsewhere before launching such a raid, thus they scoured out the banks of the river for a good site. In about a week's time, they discovered a large cavern with a submerged entrance. Team Aqua established their small HQ within close proximity of Noverus, training new recruits and producing new vehicles for the next few years. Sometime later, they established a vehicle production facility on the bank of the river, perfect for launching aquatic vehicles that could be used sometime later when the time was right.

The History of The Rebellion in Noverus:
Magma's tyrannical reign over Noverus lasted a fey years initially, until they seemed to be distracted with another area. Once civilians noticed Magma troops being sent off to the outskirts, they felt that they stood a fighting chance. Specifically, a single civilian had an idea of forming an organization to combat these invaders. This man became known to his followers as "Elder Boscorelli", the founder of the First People's Rebellion. The FPR gained several skilled followers within weeks, and after a month they had raided numerous Magma storage facilities throughout the city. Their skills in stealth and Pokemon battles were the main factors that led to their success, while their secrecy kept them hidden from Magma's ruthless clutches. However, some FPR operatives went MIA, and things seemed too "quiet" for the Rebellion. After an entire year of "nothingness", Team Magma had discovered the location of the FPR's main base, through the missing operatives that they had captured. Magma Elites swarmed FPR members' homes, seized official members, and interrogated their loved ones. Within a few hours, the entire Rebellion was decimated, aside from Boscorelli, who's whereabouts were unknown. After many hopeless years passed, Boscorelli remained hidden, plotting a new assault force to remove Magma's presence from Noverus. As he did with the First Rebellion, Boscorelli spread word of the "good fight" throughout close contacts, whom then continued to spread the word. Now, new operatives have answered the call, and are willing to do whatever it takes to remove Magma, while remaining as discreet as possible.
