Ok the Pokemon anime is pretty popular but heres a funny question?
How long has Ash been 10 years old!? He never seems to age. The pokemon anime were first released on April 1, 1997. Its now 2009 and the only case of a Birthday is in the little Mini Movie with the Pichu bro's when Ash celebrates His and pikachus anniversary of meeting which was on Ash's 10th birthday but the mini movies never mean anything. But I mean its funny. Well, it's not really like the Simpsons, though, because unlike that show, time is actually a factor in this show. Like, Ash has gotten HOW many badges? And the characters even mention at times how years have passed... Maybe he has his Pikachu give him electric shock therapy that keeps him in perpetual youth

Because its really doesn't matter. At the end of the day, it's a kids cartoon, not some big drama series or soap, and as such, the age of the characters really doesn't matter. Obviously it will have general themes running through to kinda tie all the episodes together, but stuff like character development just doesn't exist. Also, as its a cartoon, everythings drawn, so the characters can be whatever age the writers want. Therefore, its much easier for the writers just to keep them at the same age and just recycle the same old stories. If the characters where to age, then the series would have to begin going down a different route, either by getting a new bunch of kids to go catch Pokemon, or continue to focus on Ash, but maybe he becomes a gym leader or something. But obviously, it would be too risky to mess with a established and decently successful formula in this way, and for the sack of a bit of continuity, (with is already completly fucked up) its not worth it.
So yeah, anyone thing I went into a bit much depth with this one

Honestly, I think it would be perfectly logical to assume he's about 14 now. 10-11 for Kanto, 11-12 for Johto, 12-13 for Hoenn, 13-14 for Sinnoh. It makes a lot more sense to judge by the journey itself rather than how many seasons the show has been running. XD
What I was always skeptical about was the fact that they'd allow 10-year-olds to run about in the country wielding dangerous fire-breathing creatures, but hey. >_> That's a different deal entirely. Edit: Also, take a look at Gary. He's the same age, but now he's a researcher in training. He's obviously matured enough to make that kind of decision. well a year isnt a year in poke world xD
new episodes only come on now on saturdays so like one battle can last up to 2 weeks maybe he is a teenager but he is still a kid  (idk either somtimes i just type things)

He's had to have aged, it would take quite a while to walk from town to town, collecting all those badges. Across 4 different regions of the world.

hmmm that is a good question... I thought of this before, he should be pretty old, unlike the simpsons, wich episodes are usuely not linked pokemon roles thruogh 2+ days an episode, Ash should be like an adult, do the math each day follow another, over one hundred episodes, with 1 or more days each... I guess the creators, are eather stupid, or want the show to stay childish for ever, but if you take a look at deeper meanings in the show it is more of a teen series... like the fact that prof.oak always "happens" to be at ashes moms house or vise versa...I guess it is the thought of keeping the younger kids at mind... they should make a series where ash is older, a series for teen like myself, call it "PokemonX" or "pokemon Uneverse" or summtin like that... where the characters actually age... and brock gets slapped every now and then xD Yeah the ageing thing in cartoons with actual days passing by shouldnt work like a show where random things happen each day like the simpons.

I think Ash could be 11-12 now because he is on his journies for 1-2 years now but it seems 12 years in TV.
