Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ General Discussion _ Who died on your birthday?

Posted by: Hideki the Dork Feb 16 2014, 08:40 PM

Just a random thing my friends told me about one day, to try googling your age of birth + death to see who died on that day, sort of like a "who were you in your previous life" game. For me, (Nov 16), the person/people who died are:

George Petrie, actor (Honeymooners)
Georges Marchais, Sec Gen of French Communist Party (1972-94)
Russ "Mad Monk" Meyer, pitcher (Philadelphia Phillies)

...
Well at least I got an actor and a pitcher for cricket.

Edit by Raven: any subsequent posts following this edit just posting a link to the list as opposed to the list themselves will have their posts promptly deleted and a warning. Please at least post some interesting parts of your list and make a few comments. Thank you!

On the very day I was born (2ns October 1989), Liesbeth Ribbius Peletier, Neth's 1st female advisor of State, died. Apparently she was famous, but obviously I have never heard of her lol.

Looking through this list:
http://www.historyorb.com/deaths/october/2
And there's not a single name on there that I recognise.

Without checking, I already know one of my biggest inspirations died on my 12th or 13th birthday, Jimmy Sullivan, better known as The Rev. He was the drummer for Avenged Sevenfold and was damn good at it.

Interesting ones (to me) that I found was Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys, and... that's pretty much it. A lot of musicians/composers died on my birthday, kinda weird... http://www.historyorb.com/deaths/december/28

The one that died on my exact birthday was:

Nikolay Basov, Russian physicist, Nobel Prize laureate (b. 1922)

Hmm, I won a Nobel Prize in my old life and might have lived in Sochi. Interesting.

About the only folks I personally knew anything about were Archbishop Thomas Becket and Rasputin. I recognize next to no other folks on that list.

EDIT: I decided to check my mom's birthday of http://www.historyorb.com/deaths/january/27 and there are some that struck me as especially notable:
John James Audubon, founder of the Audubon Society
L Ron Hubbard, author and founder of Scientology
André the Giant, wrestler

I also decided to check my dad's birthday of http://www.historyorb.com/deaths/september/22 and the only one I recognized was the famous French mime (and the namesake for the traded Mr. Mime in the Gen I games) Marcel Marceau. o_o

And as for the deaths on my friend Koji's birthday of http://www.historyorb.com/deaths/july/8, the only folks I recognized were William Cadbury, former first lady Betty Ford, and Ernest Borgnine.

Evel Knievel is the absolute only name I recognized and still I wasn't actually familiar with him. Never heard of a single other one of these people.

There are more interesting positive happenings on my birthday than deaths, I'm pretty sure I once read that Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez married on my birthday.

Man, this is a very depressing topic. lol Anywho, some people who died on May 27th were...

Paul Gleason - May 27, 2006. An american actor, who appeared on one of my favorite shows "Drake & Josh". That was his last role, especially. He played Mr. Thompson. Gonna have to go back and find that episode. He was also on "Boy Meets World" for two episodes. Also he was on "Die Hard".

Alex Toth - May 27, 2006. An american cartoonist and animator. Did a lot of animator work.

Gretchen Wyler - May 27, 2007. Died of breast cancer, and was on broadway before.

Jeff Conoway - May 27, 2011. Lots of shows as well, especially Happy Days.

Well, I was born on December 14 and from all famous people died this day, I actually know:
1476 - Vlad III the Impaler (b. 1431) (for ones who don't know, this person is said to be some kind of a prototype of well known Dracula)
1799 - George Washington, 1st president USA (1789-97)

And actually 2 people died the same year I was born, but I don't know who they are at all....

Bummer. I read Slaughterhouse V by him in high school and loved it.

Only one I remember currently is Leonard Cohen, though he didn't die on the same year. If he did, then I'd be only a year old and logically wouldn't be able to use a computer haha.

Not sure if this counts or not, but I always found it super amazing.

I've always been a massive Star Trek fan since I was a kid, I'm talking like there's action figures, tribbles, posters, starship models and autographs all over my house kind of fan. I have the NCC 1701D tattooed on my back and I have a TnG communicator badge on my chest. So yeh, massive fan forever.

My mom went into labor on Oct 22nd and I was born on the 23rd.

Gene Roddenberry's (guy who created Star Trek) ashes were put on board the space shuttle Columbia and launched 30 miles from my home on Oct 22nd and reached orbit on the 23rd as I was being born.

A bunch of people died on August 10th it seems, I skimmed through the "On This Day" page and here's some of my personal 'favorites' (that sounds morbid) -

Sinsharishkun, Assyrian king (612 BC)

Douglas Kennedy, American actor (Dark Passage, The Lone Ranger & the Lost City of Gold), dies of cancer at 57 (1973)

Patrick Kennedy, son of US President JFK, dies at only 3 days (1963)

Aletta Henriette Jacobs, 1st Dutch female doctor and feminist, dies at 75 (1929)

John M Martin, last confederate congress member, dies (1921)
