Maybe the person who released the Mew was feeling generous, or just didn't want it anymore.

What I did was take ONE Easter Buneary egg from the shelter, and when it hatched female instead of releasing it and getting a new one, I kept it and bred myself a male with my E. Lopunny. Because the two weren't related, I was able to breed the new male with the new female. This way you don't have to constantly keep taking eggs from the shelter, but you also don't have to keep breeding until you get a third generation EB.
