I haven't seen a topic exactly like this before, so apologies if it's a repeat!

Anyway, while catching up on the anime, I often find myself getting pretty frustrated with any of the characters (or sometimes just the writers, if the characters are unable to do anything) for not catching a Pokémon that would have fit really well with the team, or who liked them a lot, and other various reasons. Or maybe it was just a case where I personally adored the Pokémon and wished to see its personality developed with the crew.

An example is the Riolu Hunter J had been after; I know he had to go and protect the kingdom, but man, it would have been beyond cool for Ash to have a Lucario!

What do you guys think? Any cases where you've thought something similar?

I sort of get annoyed with every pokémon Ash lets pass him by.
What happened to Gotta Catch 'em All! You can't get them all, Ash, if you never evolve your pokémon and don't catch more than 5 per season.

I actually get annoyed with Team Rocket sometimes whenever they fail to capture a Pokémon. What's even worse, is they released their cool ones into the wild. Like, wouldn't it be completely awesome if they had caught a Kecleon or something? I mean, come on. They're lacking cool Pokémon. Meowth is the only one they have, if Jessie released Seviper. I don't know because I haven't watched the series since Ash and friends entered the Hoenn region.

While on another note, May should have caught that wild Swablu from Ep 340: True Blue Swablu! / Sky of Swablu! Spirit Of May! An Altaria on her team would've been great.

I sat through Giratina and the Sky Warrior thinking: "Gawd they should have caught that Shaymin".... Sure I knew it was a futile hope since they don't catch any pokèmon in the movies but still...
No one ever catches a legendary! Why can't they do that? Several have showed up over the course of the series anyway. I don't think its gonna ruin nature anymore than what they already do, with their catching of random wildlife and then releasing it elsewhere...
I have a small wish of Pikachu evolving too...or at least that they stop making episodes where he considers it, which they've done at least twice with a near-identical plot. Come on, Ash, you know that ain't gonna happen. But still. Raichu is so cute.....
And Team Rocket needs to stop focusing all of their attention on ONE Pikachu. Why are they after it anyway? Because they beat him in one episode? Do they fail to realize that EVERYONE beats them in every episode? Meowth even specifically requested the use of Arbok and Weezing to train a Paras because he knows they are losers. They might as well be obsessed with catching Caterpie (now Butterfee...and released). And like Ash they give away their Pokèmon for stupid reasons (Why did James leave Growlie with his no-good parents for instance?)
Somebody ought to catch a Magikarp too without kicking it of and angering it. And get a GOOD Gyarados.

I get so annoyed that Ash never even considers catching any of the legendaries he's seen in the movies. I know they usually have some stupid connection to world order and it would mess everything up if they were caught, but COME ON~! If it were real life, any trainer would want to catch a legendary! >:U

And I also hate how whenever Ash and co. see wild Pokemon, they're always like "Oh, look at how happy those wild Pokemon are~" and then they go on their way, leaving the Pokemon behind. You could admire them longer if you, oh I dunno.. caught them.


I remember way back when Ash first started out and he was always saying how much he wanted to be a Pokemon Master.. Now it just seems like his journey is pointless.

Whenever a movie comes up that has a legendary, I like to imagine that my character is in the movie itself with Ash and the others.

Ash: "Giritina's gonna destroy the world!"
Me: "I can fix this!" *calls Giritina back into its pokeball (Masterball)*
Ash + gang: *looks at me in a WTF gaze*
Me: "What?...I caught it, like, 5 minutes ago...I figured I might as well since none of YOU were getting it!"

I agree with Rikuman. Ash goes "gotta catch 'em all", but doesn't even try to do it.

I really want to know what happened to the Ash that used to try and catch almost every pokemon he saw. You know the good ol' days when he was just starting... he used to be so enthusiastic about catching pokemon. But what makes me mad is why none of the characters, that have released pokemon, have tried to find them again. Some of them still have their old pokeballs!

I honestly agree. I mean, come on. Did they change their motto from "Gotta Catch Em' All!" to "Gotta catch what I can get in the first try!"? No. Either that or they changed it and just didn't want to tell all of their viewers.
I totally agree about Riolu. *Pokes Username* At the end of the show, I went all "WTF!? Why didn't he take Riolu with him?!" I mean, come one. If he supposably can "sense" it's aura, he should be with it, right? I mean, come on. The Pokemon Anime is totally starting to dissapoint me.
Also, if one of Ash's friends or enemies realeases a Pokemon, wouldn't it be cool if Ash, Brock, or Dawn then had the Pokemon? Rememebr Jessies' Dustox? I think Brock should have re-caught it in the end. Then Weezing, Arbok, and...*Can not remember the third Pokemon*. Well, anyway, I think it would be really cool if Ash had a Pokemon who was originally fighting against him, would end up being his Pokemon.

That is great!

I don't know if them catching more Pokemon would be that great of an idea. Ash already ignores most of his Pokemon. He isn't a very good trainer.

@bird of the stars: I totally agree with you. Altaria's one of my favourites, so that would have been awesome.

@Usagi Zakura: It honestly never occurred to me before, but now that I think about it, Ash and Shaymin would be great together. They definitely had a lot of friction going on when Shaymin was in its normal form, but once Sky Form kicked in, I can totally see it being one of Ash's best and most fun battlers. Tiny, agile, and cute definitely fits his type of Pokémon, hah.

Anyway, I think it does make sense to a point that they try to limit the number of Pokemon the kids catch because it's hard to develop personalities for each one as it is, and battles with flat characters would be horribly boring. So I don't necessarily agree that they should try catching every one they come across (hey, they might have preferences too, and I doubt Ash would ever consider picking up another Electric because he has Pikachu).

... come to think of it, Team Rocket are probably the only ones trying to loyally follow the motto (of the "Gotta Catch 'Em All" kind). They just suck at it.

But he was a bad guy, and he made Celebi turn evil and try to destroy the forest.
If Ash (or Sam for that matter) decided to befriend it and take it with them I don't think they would get too mad.

I know, I know. It all sucks. No matter what, they never get the good Pokemon. >.> It's rather annoying.

Though I feel bad for James. He was actually /good/ with Cacturn and gave it up for training. But, either way, it's really dumb that they don't get to catch anything good >.>.

Though I was happy when Ash got Starly. xD
