Again. Models.

Well. My love for Zoids has recently, and quite randomly rekindled. So much so, that I even dug out my poor dusty models from the depths of the hellhole called my closet, and put them back together. Although now they're collecting dust on the floor next to my tv, as I don't really have a place to put them.

With this newfound interest in giant robotic animals (lul), I decided to come here and see if anyone else shared this interest cat.gif I do regret to say that my models are the the "newer" generation ones, releasing around the time of the New Century Zero/Chaotic Century anime, back in 2000 or so. If I were a diehard collector, I would try to hunt down older models, such as the Robo Strux and Techno Zoids lines, but most of those don't appeal to me lol. I do hope to eventually start building up on my collection though, and maybe replacing some of the ones I have, due to broken or missing parts. I'm looking at you, Dark Spiner )<

As for what I actually have, it's a small amount, and I won't really mention them xD I could show the random pile of parts I made with Unenlagia, Leo Striker and Fire Phoenix parts from the "Blox" line, though.

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa44/Veahl/100_1483.jpg

I could also ramble for a while about the models I wish to hunt down. Snipe Master to start. But I've been wanting some of the "Genesis" line for a while now.

But I'll stop rambling for now.

(I did scare my bird by accident the other night with my Liger EM though.)

I remember owning one Zoid model when I was younger. The name of the Zoid escapes me, but I remember that it was grey and crimson in colour. I'd put it back together today if I could, but the poor thing was subjected to child torment and well... let's say the leg of the Zoid is all that remains to date, provided I haven't chucked it out yet. shift.gif

Ah. There are a number of various grey/crimson coloured Zoids. Most are coloured depending on whether they are a Republic Zoid, or an Empire Zoid. Empire Zoids will typically sport grey/black/crimson palettes, while Republic types are normally blue with white. These also tend to be older models, or rereleases of old ones, as newer models will deviate from this. The hue of the cockpit is fairly reliable for older ones as well; orange cockpits to Republic Zoids and green cockpits to Empire, but again, newer ones deviate from this a bit.

A good example of the differences is the Liger Zero model though. The original Liger Zero is a white Republic Zoid with an orange cockpit. The Liger Zero Empire is red, gold and brown, with a green cockpit.

Off the top of my head though, I could guess perhaps yours was a Helcat or maybe an Iron Kong?

Oh, Command Wolf with Irvine's palette xD I only have a regular one, which is blue. I don't recall if I ever saw the Irvine models here, so it wasn't something that popped to mind. Helcat is pretty common, so it was my first choice. That's a shame though. A friend of mine had a few models. I hope he still has them, I would love to get the Salamander he owns off him. One of these, but with a palette similar to this. With my luck, he's already gotten rid of it though.

Haha, small world!
My interest in the models (though I have to honestly say just Zoids in general) came back around December last year, after one of my friends directed me to several websites where people had showed off their custom painted zoids models.
I had more models than I could remember back when Zoids was popular enough in the US, but out of the twenty or so of them, only three survived. Reason being my friends collected the models too, and we would always 'fight' them by bashing them together repeatedly, which over time led to many, many broken models.
I regret it, because since the model lines aside from Kotobukiya have since been discontinued, it's harder to find some models, and even when you find them you can expect to pay about 3 or 4 times more then when you could have picked them up at a local store.

The three surviving models of my original collection are Genobreaker, Death Stinger and Gojulas Giga.
But since December I've brought up my collection to seven more, which ended up being quite an investment..
(Four Kotobukiya models and three from the Genesis line.)

I think out of all of my old models however, I miss the Liger Zero I had with the Jager CAS parts. Eventually getting another Liger doesn't bother me however since I've seen a few here and there that are cheaper, but, geez. Over 100 USD for one set of the CAS parts alone. Whyyyyyyyy.

Yoooouuuuu. I want your Gojulas Giga. Now.

I actually used to hate all things Gojulas. The original models look horrendous. But then there was a little known, and very mediocre Zoids game that released for the GCN many years ago. I did hunt it down, and I have gotten angry at it more times than I care to remember, because the missions were ridiculously difficult. But it did make me love Gojulas Giga. King Gojulas, however, I'll pass on. Not only do I not care for the design, but I've heard that model almost always has problems with the motor working incorrectly.

It will be a while before I'm able to start looking for new models to add to my collection though :/ I have tons of shit I have to pay off first. It's a shame that when the models were found in nearly every store locally, I was just some dumb middle schooler asking my parents for monies lul~ More often than not, I ended up with the easy to build wind up models. The only motorized ones I ever ended up with was my Dark Spiner and Liger Zero EM (Whose X armor I lost ages ago). I suppose Brachiozilla counts too. Iirc, it's a part of the Blox line as well. I wasn't too fond of it at first, but I guess with some models, once you build them, you realize how cool it really is. It's grown on me since then.

Also, which ones from the Genesis line? I'm aiming for Bio Megaraptor and Bio Tyranno eventually xD And yeah. The CAS parts doesn't surprise me. I wish they'd sold those here, since they tend to sell all sorts of customized parts, not just the Liger armors. But of course, I suppose Zoids just wasn't popular enough here for that sort of thing. Finding imports of Zoids merchandise that doesn't cost an arm and a leg gets harder and harder.

Hurf. I'm like that too. Although I think I started with Chaotic Century. Once I saw New Century Zero, I pretty much instantly liked it better, because it wasn't so serious and heavy on the drama. I'm the same way with Gundam. I dislike most Gundam series because they're so melodramatic and heavy with political garble. G Gundam was the only Gundam I really ever truly enjoyed. That's not to say I don't like series anime, I just can't enjoy it if theres layers and layers of political dramas and whatnot. Sort of boring, to me.

Oh whoops. Distracted from models. Oh well xD It was inevitable.

The Bit Cloud/Liger Zero season was the first one I saw and loved the most. The only model I was ever able to get my hands on was the Liger Zero. I really wanted the one that one kid had at the end of the series. I can't remember it's name, though. It was a purple T-Rex/raptor, and the Rider's name was "Kato Obsilus Psycho" or something.

I didn't have enough money for the Jager form that I really wanted, and I never saw Schneider or Panser in stores. Ever.

I had a handful of itty bitty plastic figures like Tauros, Lightning Sykes, etc., but they got lost. *sadface*

i liked 8th MS team, G Gundam was stupid. it's just that i watched new century when i was 10 and loved it then.. i couldn't get into chaotic century because when i tried to watch it i would always drift off. But i figured out how to multitask (due to watching more house lately) and be able to watch tv on my comp and talk to people/do facebook shit at the same time. as well as when not to try to multitask.

.. Berserk Fuhrer? :v Though, if I remember right, they called it Berserk Fury here.

Noooooo, my Gojulas Giga is like, my only custom painted model and I loves himmmm. noes.gif

I always loved the Gojulas Giga, not so much the regular Gojulas model for some reason. ..I think maybe it was just that Giga had a much more appealing look than the standard Gojulas model. Dunno. xD I never cared for King Gojulas either, but since it's one of those insanely rare models, I plan to try and get a hold of one, one day anyways. Of course, I've never seen any for sale, so if the price is insane I'll reconsider.
And oh, you're talking about Battle Legends right? The only one I have is Zoids Vs. III, which was like.. the third installment of that game? I dunno, I was addicted to it when I first started playing it, and now it's the games fault that I want to buy an army of Brastle Tigers.

Right now the only Zoids I have from the Genesis line are Murasame Liger, Sword Wolf, Bamburian and Bio Volcano. I want to get Megaraptor and Tyranno too though, even if the Bio Zoids don't have the 'classic' Zoids look, they're such badass looking models. The best part is, the Bio Zoids are posable too. grin.gif
The only thing that disappointed me with the Genesis line is that the three ligers (Murasame, Hayate and Mugen) come mostly pre-built, so there wasn't much of a challenge to it.

If you ever get the chance and have the patience too, you should check out the Kotobukiya models. They take forever to build and you're gonna have to superglue like crazy to keep parts from falling off, but they are so detailed. <3

I don't have any plans for a King Gojulas until they fix the motor. I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money on something that doesn't even work properly. I also think the design is too... Godzilla-ish, frankly :/ The horn looks pretty derp.

Also, yes, Battle Legends is Vs. II, ne? I spend more time in the tournament mode than anything, since it's easier just to breeze through stages, amass points, and keep buying Ultimate Z's. It took me a while to hunt the game down though. Even when it came out, no one carried it. But the mission mode is still ridiculously difficult. I normally take good care of my consoles and games, but it gets to the point that I really would like nothing more than to sling my controller at something in frustration.

The Bio Volcano; the one with all of the blue-ish spikes, isn't it? I've heard it's near impossible to pose without the assistance of a stand. It does look impressive though, design-wise.

Also, what do you use for paints x_x.gif? I would love to custom paint a few of mine (Starting with Fire Phoenix. Honestly, who thought pink with orange was a good idea?), but all we have at home are ceramic paints /Makes a face/ Obviously, I wouldn't use those.

I have doubts that they'll ever bother fixing the motor for King Gojulas. I wouldn't think they'd bother to care since the models are discontinued anyways, but it would have been nice if they had. Though the motor having issues doesn't really bother me, since I don't put batteries in them anyways.

No one seemed to carry the game around here when it was released either. I almost bought it online, but when trying to search for it I found Vs. III and.. liked it better. xD
And the mission mode in Vs. III was nearly impossible sometimes. I got to the final mission and it took me almost a week playing off and on to win that last one. (..Seriously, fighting a Death Saurer, and two other Zoids with guns/missles that more or less home in on you. By yourself. Wtf? noes.gif ) I was so disappointed to find nothing significant happened after I finished it.
But oh man, tournament mode was so fun, I agree.

And yeah, Bio Volcano is the red one with all the spikes. I'd heard that too, but I really didn't have a hard time getting it to stand on it's own. A leg popped off once when I was trying, but.. I think that was it.

Me, I mostly use spray paint. It's cheap, coats evenly and there's so many colors you can buy. (I'm so waiting to grab a duplicate Giga to paint with chrome and metallic awesomeness!) The paint usually dries pretty quick too. I have to warn you though, when you use spray paint, you should buy a can of white and black paint first thing to use a primers; white if you want the zoid to look bright and black for a darker look.
I forgot to use white as a primer once when spray painting my Genobreaker a few months ago. I used a very bright metallic blue, but since I didn't paint it white first, it turned out looking more dark indigo, instead of the bright blue it was supposed to be. See!
But another good thing to use are acrylic paints, especially for the smaller details. I've seen alot of people use enamal paint instead of acrylic also, but I've never tried it myself. I've also heard it's a pain to remove it you make mistakes too.

I battery by default :v I can't help myself. The child in me loves watching them move about.

To my knowledge, aren't there only two Zoids games that made it to the US (Battle Legends and Assault on 360)? I honestly haven't had the time to go googling anything, so I'm assuming anything else is an import xD; I'm interested in if 3 is better than 2. Probably my main beef with mission modes, aside from their difficulty, is lack of Ultimate Z's throughout the missions ): (Which would have helped a bit, since those alone add a substantial amount to stats.)That's also part of what makes tournament mode too easy after a while, though. When you can breeze through each stage in 10-15 seconds with a Rev Raptor armed with only it's blades, that should tell you something lmao.

I'll keep spray paint and acrylics in mind. I tend to be very anal about details, so I may go for the latter. This is all merely plans for sometime in the not so near future, though.

It's too cold outside for any nice photos. This is for funzies.

I still say that color combination looks horrible, though. Maybe something with.. blue.. or just lighter hues.. /Brainstorms
