"Mission for you, Doc!"

The bright, chipper voice rang clearly even through the heavy door to the room. Seated at a desk, a slender woman slowly rose to her full height, gently setting down the book she had been reading. She moved easily through the sparse room, placing a soft hand on the handle of the door.

Slowly, it creaked open, revealing the ever stern face of Dr. Regan Chamuel. She stared down the cheeky messenger with eyes that indicated that she had been interrupted and therefore bothered.

"Oh, good morning, Doc. Uh...got this for you. Mission, right?"

"Is it too early for you to form complete sentences?" Regan slowly pushed the door open, revealing her full image. The woman had dressed very simply; a white blouse, a pale, faded red cardigan and a pink skirt. Around her neck, she'd matched a pale pink scarf as well, to tidy up her ensemble. Ever modest, Regan still took painstaking care in preparing her appearance each day. Peering over her glasses at the young man, she shooed him away with a swish of her hand. "Thank you, sir."

"Oh, thanks again for patching me up the other day."

"The lot of you seem deadset on hurting yourselves in every possible way." Regan sighed, folding her arms across her chest, "you seem to think I enjoy putting you all back together."

Not sure how quite to respond, the young agent blankly stared at her, then turned to walk away.

Closing the door, Regan returned to her desk, opening the envelope with her 'mission'.

QUOTE(Mission)
Dr. Chamuel,

The medical supplies here at the Sanctuary are running quite low. While we're able to treat our pokemon companions, we'll shortly be unable to treat our operatives, considering the recent string of injuries. We have a supplier. Please go "Roselia Apothecary". Use the password: "Uti, non abuti" to get into the store-room, and mark which items will need to be delivered to the Sanctuary. As you have the most extensive medical training, we're assigning you this mission.

Godspeed, Dr. Chamuel.

Regan smiled humourlessly at the message. The Rebellion had given her an errand to run under the guise of 'mission'. It stood to sense, though. She had offered to help the Rebellion in any way she could, and at her current age, she wasn't nearly as spry at the younger agents. She wasn't much of a fighter, by any means, nor were her pokemon, so it seemed logical to send Regan on these sort of 'missions.'

She rose and moved to her 'closet', which was little more than an indenture in the wall with a pipeline for a hanging rack. Procuring a long, black coat, a knit cap and a pair of woolly mittens (pink, like her skirt and scarf), she fitted them on and promptly left her room.

* * *

As she had suspected, the weather in Noverus had turned brisk, almost overnight. She thanked her ever-helpful foresight in having chosen such a warm outfit. Looking around, she noted that the sun had fully risen into its morning position, casting dawn shadows on the now stirring city. The people moving about were no doubt headed to their day jobs here and there throughout the city, which was something Regan missed dearly. But, having a mission today, no matter how menial, proved quite uplifting for the former doctor. She'd been convinced that she'd spend the rest of her life sheltered away in the Rebellion, unable to freely explore the city and move about since she was, for all intents and purposes, a fugitive.

It struck her as odd, though, that she hadn't been given a partner for this 'mission', which potentially meant that all other operatives were probably too busy for a the tiny task of selecting medicine. Hopefully, then, she wouldn't run into any trouble. While she didn't consider herself defenseless, she knew that she wasn't the sort of person to battle with her pokemon.

Feeling lonely without any sort of companion for the mission, Regan reached into her purse, pulling out the pokeball for Uri, her Minccino. Popping it open in her hand, the little Chinchilla pokemon appeared in Regan's arms, chirping happily up at her.

"Good Morning, Uri." Regan stroked the little creature's soft fur for a moment before setting her down. Beaming happily, the Minccino wiggled in her trainer's arms under the gentle petting before scampering around once she'd been let down.

"Chino!"

"Yes, my dear." the doctor smiled, "I'm counting on you to keep us safe today. Be on guard for anyone who might be following us."

Zephyros was walking through the streets of Noverus' districts.He couldn't really tell where he was exactly due to the fact this part of town, just say this entire city, wasn't familiar to him. He looked around annoyed, as people passed him and evaded eyecontact. Those who did made eye-contact were treated on a vicious glare. The temperature drop in the city had had an impact on Zephyr, as he was even more unfriendly thanks to the unsavoury weather.

The weather in Noverus had turned all of the sudden actually he had known his could happen but he was to stubborn to admit it. He had heard some other grunts talking about a cold front advancing towards Noverus and they told him he might as well dress up a little in order to avoid the cold. He had brushed aside their advice and departed without a warm coat. Now he was cursing himself for taking their advice so lightly.

He wondered why they had put him up with the mission of scout the area around this part of the poor district. Probably because he had just joined Team Aqua and had to see what he was capable of, furthermore they had to put someone up with the lesser missions and sadly he just happened to walk by the office of one of the commanders at the wrong time. When push came to shove he was ordered to scout the area around the Northside Mall, as they had recieved intel about Dr. Chamuel, if he recalled the name correctly, and he had to see if something big was going on. His statute of being a new recruit made him unknown to the other factoins and this could be used as an advantage.

"I wonder why they are so interested in this Dr. Chamuel" he muttered as he putted his hands in his pockets and walked down the street. If he remembered it correctly he should've been close to the Northside Mall and if not... Well perhaps he shouldn't think about that.

Thus, this life has no meaning...
This body...surely was...
Made out of blades.

"We have finished analyzing the footage you brought in last time, Moga." a voice broke through the dim lighted office. It was a cold, early morning. On one side of the massive wooden desk stood Khezu, still not fully awake to realize whether he was in trouble or not. Facing him was his ever stern superior holding what appeared to be files on his left hand.

"The woman was identified as Regan Chamuel. Our sources insist that she was, at one point or another, a Magma prisoner. Whether this holds any truth to it or not we do not know." he spoke once more, sighing after he finished. He whispered something along the lines of 'damned street rats' before continuing.

"You'll be partnered with a new recruit... Zephyr-something-or-other. Both of you are going to scout out the Northside Mall. If you find her, interrogate her by any means possible. Hell, bring her back here even if you have to, just make sure you blindfold her first." at this point Khezu had finally woken up.

"I can handle her alone. Why do I have to drag some dead weight around?" he wasn't fond of the idea of a partner. Much less a new one.

"This isn't negotiable, Moga. Do you need to be reminded of your own failures as a recruit?"

"...Fine."

"Anyways, I didn't just call you here for the mission, Moga." now that his slumber had passed, Khezu had all of his consciousness available to think about what he had screwed up. Meanwhile the officer pulled out a Pokeball from his drawer and pushed it towards Khezu.
"You might want this. It could be of use to you."

"An empty Pokeball?" his superior let out a strong laugh before replying.

"It's not empty. Your boat is waiting outside. Hurry up, we can't afford to lose this chance to know how Magma operates." Khezu picked up the Pokeball and nodded before heading towards the door.

"Thanks, sir."

"No need to thank me. Now get out of my office."

~~~
Khezu yawned the last of his morning drowsiness. The cold had forced him to a change of attire. His usually black t-shirt was replaced by a thin, dark blue hoodie and, while his pants remained the same, the bandages that covered his hands now extended up to his elbow. He adjusted his new fingerless gloves that he gained with his rank promotion before directing his word to his Aipom.
"See anything, Double S?" the Aipom shook his head. Wonderful. He was out searching for a specific person in the middle of a crowd. If that wasn't enough he didn't even know his partner, where he was or how he even looked. He leaned over the edge of the rooftop he was on top of and sighed.
"Man, this is gonna be worse than finding two needles in a haystack."
Since she had not been given a time limit on the mission, Regan had decided that walking to the Northside Mall seemed best. She could walk, fairly undisturbed, in the city, and get in some much needed excersize. Her room in the Sanctuary was too cramped, and it was nice to get a chance to stretch her legs after existing in her little makeshift clinic for the past few weeks.
She'd only gotten a few blocks when she heard a sharp, piercing: "NYA!"
Snapping her head to the right, she saw some small, furry creature running towards her. While her pokemon knowledge was not as prodigious as most trainers a quarter of her age, she recognized the creature instantly as a Skitty. But, somehow, the coloration of it seemed off. She recalled Skitty being a bit darker and more subdued. This one appeared a more lively colour, but moreso than that, it seemed scared.
As it ran past, Uri immediately wiggled out of her arms and gave chase, wearing a surprisingly determined face, rather than her usual cheerful one.
"Uri!" Regan stumbled as she began to follow her rambunctious little friend. Up ahead, the Skitty skittered into an alleyway, followed closely by Regan's Minccino. Suddenly aware that the situation was potentially a trap, she steeled her nerves and tailed her pokemon as best she could. Entering the alleyway, she felt a wave of relief as no Magma agents appeared to be waiting there. But the Skitty had turned around and was hissing at the encroaching Chinchilla Pokemon. Without warning, it sprang forward, slamming its tail on the ground and startling Uri, who sprang back several paces and looked up at Regan, questioningly.
"Oh, use Tail Slap." Regan commanded, but her hesitation cost her as the Skitty had charged forward again, smacking little Uri around repeatedly with its tail. "Uri, Charm!"
As Uri blew a few hearts into the air, Regan noted that the repeated tail attacks seemed less vicious than earlier, which meant that Uri's Charm had worked perfectly in lowering the Skitty's offensive prowess.
As the kitty-cat retreated, Regan finally got the chance to note its stance, which seemed surprisingly saggy. The Skitty seemed belaboured of breath, which probably meant it had worn itself out from the run. Scanning its face, she noted that what would normally be a happier looking cat face seemed to be scrunched in pain. Uri had not attacked it, which meant that it was hurt. She had chased and cornered a frightened and hurt animal.
"Uri, Swift." She commanded, determined now to weaken it to the point of capture. There was no way the Skitty would let her treat it if it were wild. At least, in a pokeball, she could take it to a Pokemon Center, where it would get the help it needed.
She watched closely as Uri wound up to attack, noting a tiny stumble in the Skitty's stance. The creature recoiled in advance, convulsions wracking its body before the stars slammed into it. Regan surmised that the pokemon was suffering from the Poison condition, which explained fully the sagging stance, convulsions and ragged breath.
"Poor thing." The doctor stepped forward, procuring a pokeball. The Skitty mewled pathetically up at her, sprawled out on the ground and easily on its last leg. Kneeling down next to the pained creature, Regan expanded the pokeball, and gently tapped the cat's flank with it. In a swirl of red light, the pokemon had disappeared into its new home, making its "PING" noise almost immediately. The Skitty evidently had no energy left to put up any sort of fight.
"Uri, come." The Minccino scampered up Regan's back, peeking out over her shoulder at the pokeball containing the oddly coloured pokemon. Exiting the alley, Regan popped the ball back open, revealing the still exhausted Skitty, who stared up at the female doctor with great, wondering eyes. From her pack, Regan drew out an antidote and gently applied it, easing the pokemon's suffering somewhat before returning the creature back to its pokeball to rest.
"Oh." She blinked as she stood back up, looking to Uri on her shoulder "That was the first time I've ever caught a pokemon." The Chinchilla pokemon, in turn, burst into applause, cheering happily at the mention. Uri recalled that all of Regan's Pokemon Companions had been gifts, not captured by Regan herself. It felt odd to have a new companion after all these years, especially given that a majority of their old friends had gone missing.
"Well then, our new friend can rest for a moment. Perhaps we should focus on our mission now, yes?" Regan smiled, patting the Minccino's head gently "You were wonderful in that little skirmish, my little guardian. You're why I'm never afraid anymore."
With the purring Minccino on her shoulder, Regan continued towards the Northside Mall, where her meager mission awaited.
Zephyr leaned against one of the street's doorposts. He sighed as the most illusive of things had just happened... the thought of getting lost on his first mission was pounding inside his head, what a failure. Moreover somewhere in this part of Noverus another agent of Aqua was awaiting him, or searching for him as well. His annoyance only got worse as he had no idea who exactly he'd been partnered with, leave alone what this person looked like. He only knew that his partner was called 'Khezu Moga' and was recently promoted, making him superior to Zephyr. He wished he'd prepared for this mission instead of taking off without proper preparations.
Sighing, he closed his jacket a little more and searched for something in his left pocket. As he felt the round metallic surface of the object he was looking for he pulled it out and pressed the button to enlarge his pokéball. He was tired of walking around without company and the streets were practically empty so he could take his favourite partner out. He pointed the pokéball in front of him and a red beam glanced from it and started to take the shape of a small fox-like pokémon with a small forelock. The little pokémon wagged its tail and jumped unto zephyrs shoulder.
"Hello there Zorua, it's been a while huh?"
The Zorua barked to confirm and licked his face. Zephyr patted his friend and stepped back on the street, now looking for people wearing something blue. It only seemed logical that agents of team Aqua would be wearing something blue, as he had even changed his usual wardrobe for that of an Aqua recruit. He wore his own pair of denim black trousers and his favourite pair of black boots. He had switched his motive black shirt for a regular soft blue t-shirt and a navy blue leather jacket. This leather jacket was presented to him by Julian as a 'welcome-gift'. However he'd wished for a scarf or a warm hoodie instead of a leather jacket at this moment. He shook his head to make his soft-brown hair fall in such a way he could easily peek underneath it with his left eye and kept walking.
"Zorua we need to find someone in blue, when you see someone suspicious tell me alright?"
The zorua nodded and looked off in the distance, searching for something that didn't blend in with the usual scenery. They kept walking like that for quite a while, it almost seemed like they had been walking for hours as Zephyr noticed something familiar. He somehow recognised this place, as he had been here before and stopped in the middle of the street. He turned and saw the typical crates that they had passed a few times. And that doorpost seemed awfully familiar too...
It struck him like lightening on a clear, sunny day. He had been running around in circles all this time! He cursed under his breath and kicked a rock further down the street. "Damnit!"
His zorua suddenly jumped of his shoulder and started running down the street, disappearing in an alley a few meters distant from the place he was standing. He chased after his partner and ran inside the alley, almost tripping over a garbage can. The alley was quite dark, which only resulted in low visibility, and due to his zorua having a darkened colour he couldn't see where his partner went. He called for it and awaited a response which didn't came. He quickened his pace and then stopped.
The alley was a dead end, a meters long high wall loomed in front of him and there was no way that in any condition his zorua had managed to climb over it. He called his partner again. He saw some movement and saw a rattatta dashing of and disappearing in a hole inside the wall. Zephyr started to panic his heart beating in his throat, he called out once more in a cracking voice.
"Zorua! Where are you?!"
A noise came from above him and as he glanced up he saw his zorua sitting on the fire-escape staircase on his right. The zorua barked and the sound of it echoed in the alley, it wagged it's tail and ran up the stairs gesturing Zephyr to follow. Zephyr got the subtle hint and jumped at the protruding staircase hanging at the bottom, pulling himself up. He stood up and climbed the staircase with swift movements, taking three steps at a time. Eventually he caught up with Zorua and grabbed the little fox, turning it towards him.
"What was that all about? Why did you drag me up here?"
The pair of giant blue eyes twinkled in a cunning way and it turned its head, softly barking and squirming in order to get loose of zephyrs grip. Zephyr held the zorua close to him and looked a little further. He hadn't noticed they'd reached the top of the staircase and were now on the rooftops. Zorua managed to escape his grip and crawled back on is shoulder, now barking at the silhouette in the distance.
Zephyr too noticed the silhouette and hushed his partner, which only made a few whining noises before being silent. He closed up on the mysterious figure and saw that it was someone even younger than himself. He waited to give one of his stinging remarks as he noticed the blue hoodie. Could this be his partner? He looked at Zorua and the little fox pokémon kept watching the guy in front of them. Zephyr decided he might better be sure about it and stepped forward, making a coughing noise to get the persons attention.
"You're supposed to be Khezu Moga right?"
As Khezu let out another sigh his Aipom began flickering his ears. Something had caught his attention.
"Hm? Get anything, Double S?" and then he heard the coughing. Realizing immediately that someone was behind him, Khezu grasped the Pokeball containing his Houndour before turning around to face whoever was there. Now standing in front of him was a guy not much older than him accompanied by a black, fox-like Pokemon. Zoruas, as Khezu would soon find out, were capable of creating illusions willingly. Despite being told this days beforehand, he had never actually seen one so he didn't make the connection straight away. After the man called him out by his name Khezu assumed this was his assigned partner.
"And I guess you're... uh... Zephyr, was it? I'm sorry, my superior isn't very good with names." and indeed he wasn't. 'Zephyr-something-or-other' didn't particularly make Khezu find his partner easier. He extended his arm out for a handshake before quickly adding his already known name.
"Khezu Moga, but you already knew that." now that the introductions were out of the way. Khezu switched topics to the mission at hand.
"I assume you already know the missions basics but I've seen this woman before. As a matter of fact I battled alongside her before... err... running off with the footage I had. Very chivalrous, I know. She has long brown hair and seems to be in her late thirties from what I gather." at this point he took a brief pause to check with his Aipom, who had returned to watching the streets after realizing that the unexpected visitor posed no direct threat. The Aipom shook his head to signal that, yet again, nothing of interest was going on at the moment.
"I know you just got up here, but we could use someone down there in case I can't get down fast enough. If you spot something similar to what I described just shout up here. Likewise, if I spot her out, I'll send Double S there to meet you and lead the way." Khezu spaced out for a bit, trying to remind himself of any details that could prove useful for them. He snapped his fingers and something else popped in his mind.
"She carries around a Pokemon often... What was the name again... It's this gray mouse thing... Rhymes with cappuccino, something like that. It's kind of a big eared Rattata with a fluffier tail. Hopefully you know what Pokemon that is because I sure as hell don't. Anyways, that's the plan. Everything good? Any suggestions?"
It was a very cold morning as the sun was starting to shine over the horizon reflecting off of the fresh frost that manage to cover the ground and tree growth overnight. Letting out a small yawn and sitting up from her sleeping position, Saphira wrapped up in a blanket of leaves stretches her arms and makes the gestures of getting up after a good night sleep. Around her is quiet nature setting in the distance she can hear the sound of small bird pokemon chirping as they greet the morning sun. Looking down Saphira smiles as she sees her small fire pokemon Flare curled up in a small ball still sleeping, her tail flame burning as bright as ever giving off great amounts of heat. Slowly but surely Saphira creeps around Flare so she doesn't disturb her and starts to pack up what little things she has before stretching one more time and turning back to the sleeping Flare.
"Well Flare, its time to wake up...I know that you are tired cause we traveled half the night but we need to keep moving so that we can catch up with where the most recent rumors are." With a cheerful smile on her face and her voice flowing through the morning air the small fire pokemon stirs from her curled up sleeping position and stretches the flame on her tail flame grows more as she becomes more awake.
"Char....Charmander" Flare uses her small claws to rub her eyes before looking up at Saphira, the same cheerful expression can be seen on her face as well as the small pokemon starts to walk forward in the same direction that they were heading towards the night before.
"Now keep in mind Flare, I don't know who we are looking for. I only heard that something will be happening very soon that might involve one of the groups and the rebels. You know me and getting information on the rebels group and getting to know them better-" Before Saphira can continue on she is cut short by a thought that crosses her mind, one that has been on her mind ever since she made her goal to learn more about the rebellion. "Get to know them better......ya.....how....when I can't even hold a conversation with a person for that long." A long drawn out sigh leaves Saphira's mouth as the lingering thought passes through her head a few times.
"Char?" Flare stops walking since she ended up a few feet in front of Saphira and turns back around, her tail flame seems to be wavering in strength showing that she has some concern about Saphira.
Looking up from the ground Saphira takes note of Flare's flame since she learned to rely on the flame sometimes to tell what Flare is feeling gets rid of her uncertainty and replaces it with a smile of reassurance for Flare. "Don't worry Flare I'm sure things will get better for us and Gawaine as we continue our journey together."
Flare even though shows the same expression her flame tail steadies itself again and the small pokemon continues to walk as Saphira's mind once again drifts off, "I hope it will continue to get better, I don't know how much longer i can just travel on rumors and stories without being able to prove them false or back them up with facts."
Feeling a quick brush of cool air more past her body Saphira bundles up her long silk coat and puts the hood over her head to keep herself warm with some assistance of Flare's flame. She gives herself a reassurance nod before picking up her pace and heading towards the once place where the person who started the rumor is said to have gotten it from....Northside Mall.
A pleasant stroll later, Regan found herself in the center of an abandoned parking lot in front of an equally abandoned strip mall. The Northside Mall looked run down, bitterly so, and seemed virtually devoid of life. A sad sigh escaped the doctor's lips as she gazed across the derelict buildings, trying to imagine the pre-Magma times when this would've been a bustling little hamlet of activity.
She looked between a few of the buildings, noting that a few staircases appeared to exist leading to a lower level, which indicated that the main area of the mall was below.
"Ain' gon fin' nofin' here" she heard a low growl and snapped her head to one side, coming face to face with...a hobo?
Taking a step back, Regan recoiled from the stench of the man she'd failed to notice approaching, and instinctively raised a hand to her mouth, as if to block off the foul odour. Uri, however, seemed completely at ease with the man there, and even greeted in him her usual cheerful Minccino manner. Regan peered through her glasses at the man, attempting to make the most absolute identification she could muster.
"You. You helped me the last time I fought with Magma."
The man's reply came as an unintelligble set of grumblings, followed by a hand gesture, pointing down the road.
"Mall's blocked." He jerked his head in an unnatural manner at the main entrances to the strip mall. "Go unnergroun'."
While she had every reason to trust the logic of the deranged gentleman, Regan also knew that that selfsame logic pointed equally strongly in the direction of otherwise. He was clearly out of sorts, even though he'd helped her once before. She turned to look at the buildings once more, noting that they were, in fact, all boarded up. The stairs leading to the downstairs seemed broken as well, and she hadn't brought any spelunking gear.
"G'day." The Hobo tipped his disgusting hat at her before trundling off, leaving her once again alone in the parking lot.
"Thank you, sir." Regan nodded after him, looking in the direction in which he'd pointed earlier. Peering hard through her glasses, she noted something of a subway signal, much like the ones that used to dot Noverus at key locations, but had long since gone out of service with Magma's takeover.
This war has ruined us all. Regan allowed herself a sigh, scratching Uri behind her ear as the little creature waved at the departing homeless man.
Slowly she began walking towards the subway sign, finding herself in no particular rush to complete the mission with haste. She didn't often get the...privilege...of leaving the Sanctuary, considering that she was, for all intents and purposes, an escaped convict. A fact that she was sure would come back to haunt her.
"Dr. Chamuel?"
Out of instinct, she turned at the mention of not only her name, but her former title. She immediately cursed not only her instincts, but her immaculate foresight concerning her notoriety. Too her chagrin, two Magma grunts appeared to be swaggering up to her. One wore the normal fatigues of the grunt-level agents that she had seen all too often in her city. But the other appeared to be taller, more regal and wore something much smarter than the furry cuts that the commonplace grunts wore. This man was probably higher ranked, and appeared to be the one who called out to her.
"Aha, so you are Dr. Chamuel, since you turned so quickly" he smirked triumphantly at her as they approached while Regan stood her ground.
"Yours was the only voice around, naturally, I was curious." Regan stared back at him, quelling her rising panic with surprising success. "Your fool tactics at finding that ghost of a woman may be in need of refinement."
"So you know her?" Despite the initial moment of being taken aback at this middle-aged woman's biting remark faded quickly into its original sneer.
"She was my doctor before you and your ilk so kindly deposed her." Finding that tiny shred of truth to season the lies seemed like the best way to appear convincing, though Dr. Chamuel was no liar by trade. She felt her facade quickly dwindling as she took a step away from the two encroaching men.
"Well, regardless of your affiliation to her..." the man leaned in close, allowing Regan to get a full glimps of his face underneath his magma hood. Dangerous green eyes. Locks of long red hair. Untrustworthy turns at the corners of his mouth. "Rugged" stubble. As he reached out to touch her, Regan's eyes quickly scanned the hands. Hard. Scarred. Used to hard work. Everything about this man screamed dangerous to Regan, and she recoiled from his touch. "You may have information regarding that criminal." He eyed her physical response with great interest as she took another step away from him.
"But, of course, we could just drop this charade. Come with us quietly, Dr. Chamuel. It's against my policy to harm a woman," he leaned in close, whispering dangerously "unless she pushes me to it."
"Uri, Tail-" "J'zargo. Fake Out."
As Uri sprang up attack, a cream-coloured blur burst in from nowhere, knocking the Minccino clear to the ground several feet away. As Regan's vision blurred for a moment, she looked around for the offender, noting that a Persian had appeared from thin air and had proceeded to trounce her pokemon.
"Uri!" Regan felt the cry rip from her lungs as she moved towards her friend, but the man's sharp grasp clasped on her arm.
"Can't say you didn't push me." The Magma Elite's wicked smile shone dangerously on his face, setting Regan at great unease. His hungry eyes belied that of a hunter on the verge of decimating his prey, and Regan hadn't been prepared for such an encounter.
"Uri! Encore!" Weakly, Uri stood and began clapping. Regan knew this would lock the Persion into Fake-Out for a bit, which would aid her in the battle-
"Ria! Quick Attack!" The man's voice rang clearly through the air, and before Regan could even look around for another pokemon, Uri landed at her feet, mewling weakly. Looking up to her pokemon's former position, she noted a wicked looking Sneasel grinning viciously at her, the claws glistening dangerously in the morning sunlight.
"Uri!" Regan wrenched free of the man's grasp, despite the pain she felt in her arm and scooped up the little creature before breaking into a run. "Someone help me!" having completely lost her cool in the face of such a swift defeat, and in the calculating eyes of the man slowly stalking after her, Regan yelled to the empty air, hoping desperately that someone would come to her aid.
It seems like forever since Saphira has been walking until she finally reached what she thought was some point of civilization which was with very little people. Trying not to draw too much attention to herself she places her hood over her head and starts to approach a nearby civilian hoping that they might have more information on where she might need to go, following at the heel of her feet was Flare who was occasionally staring up at the passing strangers tilting her head the flame on her tail flickering a bit almost like she was trying to entertain them. As Saphira slowly approached the outside counter the old women who was sitting there looked up from her papers and gave a unsure look at the shady looking Saphira.
"How may I help you young lady?" The women's voice was old and somewhat cold, her words made Saphira's bones shiver with nervousness and uncertainly almost like she was staring down a ghost or a bad nightmare. Looking up from under her hood she made eye contact with the old lady and the sight didn't help matters much since the lady looked as scary as she sounded.
"Well I.....I....um..." She is uncertain what words to use since she isn't usually use to talking to people and if she doesn't its short and quick questions before heading off again.
"Out with it lady, I have better things to do than listen to a babbling person!" The old lady snaps back at Saphira who practically jumps back in surprise at the raised voice.
Picking her words quickly so that she doesn't cause any more trouble or start any trouble the way this conversation is going speaks quickly and clearly. "I'm looking for a place called Northside Mall, need to go there to....check out a few things."
The old women lets out a scratch cough in response but then her raspy voice continues, "Oh...looking for trouble are you-" Once again a cough interrupts her before she continues, "If you just head well north of here you will come to a boarded up place. Unlike normal buildings you can't get to the mall just by walking in, you need to find a lower level entry point and enter from there though no one here bothers since anyone who enters there has said to find nothing but trouble....I don't even know if a lower level entrance is even there. Now if that is all....get out of here!"
Saphira grateful for the answer the old lady gave since it was full of information but at the same time was displeased with the whole attitude that the old lady gave her, not wanting to drag anything out she gives a slight nod and then turns breaking eye contact from the old lady and starts to walk off. As she walks off she her small fire pokemon who was hearing the whole thing reach out its tiny claws and tugs on her dress causing her to look down, when she does she sees the small charmander with a worried look on her face.
"Don't worry Flare, her attitude didn't get to me, we have ran into people like her before and sometimes even worst. I'm pratically use to it by now" She lets out a small smile at the fire pokemon as the fire pokemon smiles back and looks forward towards the direction they are heading. As she looks back forward Saphira's mind seems to be stuck on something the old lady said, "Anyone who goes to this "mall" runs into trouble huh....that sounds interesting though I'm not going there t"o run into trouble or cause it though...I have a bad feeling about this now."
She hides her uncertainly from Flare as they continue on their way and after a little bit of walking makes it to what appears to be an abandon parking lot, looking around not seeing much Saphira lets out a sigh and looks down at Flare. "Hey Flare do you think you could help me look for something that seems to be heading down to a lower level? It can be stairs some indent in the ground anything"
"Char....Char....Charmander" Flare puts her claws on her side and stands up proudly almost like telling Saphira to leave it to her as she waddles forward and starts to move around the edge of the abandon parking lot looking for anything that could possibly lead to a lower level, while Saphira began at the opposite side and looked for the same.
It wasn't until a few moments later that they both ended up meeting small opening with some skinny stairs heading in a decline fashion, Saphira slowly looks at Flare and Flare slowly looks back at Saphira. "Well we aren't going to get anywhere if we just stand here and stare into space...."
Slowly Saphira starts to descend on the stairs but she didn't make it far before she heard something faint, she couldn't make it out at first but then it seems to have gotten louder and louder. It was after a few minutes that she realized that she was hearing a loud shout she wasn't sure if it was a echo from someone distant in the lower underground area or if it was someone closer. Quickly looking at Flare who became suddenly alerted by the oncoming noise and they both start to look around trying to figure out where the shouts were coming from, which now Saphira could barely make it out but she heard the word "help".
"This.....doesn't sound good.....doesn't sound good at all....maybe that lady was right...." Taking a step back she becomes unsure if she should continue to find out who was calling out. It wasn't under she felt a reassurance tug from Flare on her dress and the small "Char" leave Flare's month that she got rid of that uneasiness and nods. "You right...if that is a help I'm hearing we should check it out." She takes a few steps forward, her hood still over her head keep her line of vision to a minion only able to see what lies ahead of her. She heads towards the direction she thinks the she heard the help coming from trying to prepare for whatever she could possibly run into when she finds the source, but at the same time she is thinking, "What could i possibly be getting myself into...."
"Oh well my superior did remember my name AND yours... So I only had a name to find you. Lucky for me that Zorua noticed you on the rooftop" Zephyr replied as he took Khezu's hand and accepted the extended hand with a steady handshake. "Guessing you don't know my full name I'll tell you it, just out of protocol though. Zephyros Rikalon, pleased to make your acquaintance"
This Khezu-guy wasn't all too shabby... not at all, and if the stories Julian had told about him were true he'd be very excited about the upcoming mission. He looked over the edge of the roof from where he was standing but couldn't even see the street, which only meant they were somewhere very high above the ground, or at least above the average street level. Zephyr took a few steps back without Khezu noticing, he hadn't known he had a fear of heights himself, perhaps this was just being caused by the nerves he had at that particular moment, but it seemed only fair to be rather safe then sorry. But he somehow knew that his climb down wouldn't be all to enjoyable either.
In the meanwhile, Zephyr being lost in his own thoughts, he had missed the part where Khezu had explained some other Intel he probably should've listened to, as he had only heard her being in her late thirties. However he caught the description of the pokémon she had with her. And it seemed awfully familiar when the description was told, no he could show what this lousy new recruit, meaning himself, could do.
"A grey mouse thing, fluffier tail and bigger ears than a rattata and it rhymes with cappuccino? I'm pretty sure that's the description of a minccino,a normal type pokémon from Unova, yeah it seems familiar to me" he replied while going towards the staircase to go back to the street level. He stopped with his hand already on the rail and turned back to Khezu.
"You need someone down to patrol and keep an eye out for something you could miss right? Well, l if the stories told about you are only half the truth, I'm pretty sure that I won't be needing to worry and it won't be any of my concern that someone will get past your keen eyesight, but you're right on that part. Having someone stand-by on the street level will certainly heighten our chances of finding Dr. Chamuel. You have 'worked' together with her right? Then she might know your strategies as well, but she doesn't know me at all... that could work in my advantage, but I'll go now, as blabbing about will only keep us off our objective no?"
He turned back and descended the staircase slowly, holding himself very tightly. He was squeezing the rails in such a way that his knuckles had turned white due to the lack of blood flow. He jumped down the last part and landed on the ground in the alley, bending through his knees to lighten the landing so he wouldn't fall or even worse, strain a muscle. Well, spraining a muscle isn't that bad but he'd liked to be in a good condition in order to get into a good corner if he would have to start a fight during the mission. He'd rather land a few good hits before dashing off than landing a few good punches and getting beat to pulp afterwards because his fleeing-manoeuvre failed to work.
Zorua barked on his shoulder and looked to the part where the alley and the main street crossed paths. Zephyr gave his friend a glare, hoping it would hush and then started walking towards the main street. The Zorua yelped as it got the reprimand from his master and curled its tail in his neck, as kept gazing towards the street intensely. It's ears where constantly twitching, as if it was hearing something in the far-off distance. Zephyr stroked the Zorua's head and wanted to step up the streets as his Zorua unexpectedly barked in his ear.
He startled and took the zorua of his shoulder. "ARE YOU CRAZY?! WHAT IF SOMEONE HEARS US?" he said in a subdued voice, though the harshness was easily heard through his whispering. "Seriously, shut your mouth if nothing's going on alright?"
The zorua nodded and hung his head down in shame. It wanted to tell his master he'd heard a lady a little further and she seemed in trouble, but he didn't understand. It let out a sigh and started wagging it's tail, hoping Zephyr would lighten up. "Yeah yeah, I know you didn't meant to do that" Zephyr replied to the pair of puppy-dog eyes and hugged his friend, putting it back on his shoulder and waking up the street.
Now he knew where Khezu was he took on a strategic place in order to both see Khezu and observe the street and stay unseen for any strangers coming up the street. The small Illusion that Zorua had put up was probably the main cause of his plan being a success. He had though of making the street look like a dead end and then making the alley's the continuing street. If this Dr. Chamuel would pass through here she would've been in for the biggest surprise of her life, if she didn't see through his plan, that is.
Suddenly Zephyr heard something that might have been a high femine scream or the yell of a pokémon. He peeked past the corner and saw a woman running into his direction. He quickly hid back and then started analyzing what he had seen. She was still up and about 200 meters away from his illusional trap so he had enough time to overview everything. He reminded the woman having brown hair, being in her late thirties and having something clinched between her arms. Something grey... with big ears and a fluffy tail... wait a miniccino! That woman was DR. Chamuel. He rubbed his hands imaginary as he imagined her walking into his trap. Until he heard her scream, something wasn't right about it...
"Someone help me!" She shouted to an abandoned street. Her voice resonated through the street and reached Zephyr. It seemed in panic, even worse then that, she was desperate and they way she was running... she was in danger! He peeked back past the corner and saw she was now 100 meters away from his trap. Behind her he saw two in red clad guys chasing after her and slowly catching up to her. Magma's! Zephyr felt something boiling inside of him as he saw the scene unfold. Magma wanted to hurt a lady in need?! Mission or no, Zephyr wouldn't let this happen without him trying to stop this.
He jumped out of hiding and told his Zorua to hold the illusion a little while longer. He whistled a certain tune, only known by Aqua members, to tell Khezu he needed his help. Though Zephyr was quite certain Khezu had already noticed the 'upcoming' problem concerning Magma.
"Dr. Chamuel! This way please!" he said while not even waiting for her to come his way. He grabbed her arm and lead her into one of the alleys. "Zorua, hide yourself and keep up the illusion until they are close enough!" he said to his partner as he ran past it while pulling Regan with him, not letting go of her arm. He hid behind a container and pulled her down, forcing her to sit and hide. "Stay here until I say you can come out!"
Zephyr climbed unto the container and somehow made his way up to a higher-up balcony. Happy his agility was above average and that he had noticed this balcony when coming back down after meeting Khezu, he ducked and waited for the two magma's to run past. If they would be close enough he would drop himself in an attempt to surprise them. He took out one of his pokéballs and pointed it at the empty space next to him. The red beam that shot from the pokéball took the shape of an otter-like pokémon. It greeted his master and looked at Zephyr with serious eyes.
"Hello Flash, ready to stretch your legs and have a small rumble as a warm-up?" Zephyr greeted his oshawott. The pokémon nodded and crossed it's arms before looking down, then looking back up after analyzing the area, waiting for its orders. "Two magma's, start charging for a Water Gun as you see them, I'll jump down. When they're distracted you can catch them off-guard and release your Water Gun with all your force alright? You think you're able to manage that?" Flash nodded again and looked back at the alley-entrance.
” Now we'll just have to be a little patient"
His presumed partner stepped forward and shook his hand, introducing himself as Zephyros. Much to Khezu's relief, the new recruit knew exactly what kind of Pokemon he was describing, identifying it as a Minccino.
"Yeeeah, not at all familiar with Unovan Pokemon. Thanks for the info. Like I said, I'll be up here if you need anything." he reassured Zephyros who replied with something about "stories" regarding Khezu. The teenager laughed nervously and scratched the back of his head, directing his word to Double S after Zephyros was out of hearing range and down back on the streets.
"Heh, not quite sure what's up with the story deal. Hopefully he wasn't being sarcastic... Anyways, still nothing, Double S?" the Aipom began flickering his ears yet again. Checking his back didn't reveal anything this time.
"Pom!" he lunged forward towards the edge and used his tail to point out in the direction he was facing. Khezu soon followed, trying to scout out anything similar to his target.
"What is it? Is it he-"
"Someone help me!"
It was Regan Chamuel. Being chased by two Magmas. Again.
"...Aw, hell. Why is this woman always being chased around by Magmas?" it was around this time that his partner whistled some tune, whatever it was. Khezu assumed this was to warn him of the happening. He replied with a thumbs up before focusing back on the chase.
"Double S, try to catch up with them, I'll try to keep u- Wait... Oh, damn, this new guy knows what he's doing!" the lure into the alley was invaluable. Into the straight, easily blocked-by-Rhyhorn alley. Khezu smirked as Zephyros took up a vantage point and handed a Pokeball to his Aipom.
"Wait for him to get a drop on them. After that drop the blockade." he gave Slinger Shot his instructions before heading towards a nearby pipe running down the side of the building. He began his descend, choosing this particular way down to cause the least amount of noise possible. After reaching the ground he quickly sneaked to Dr. Chamuel's hiding place.
"Uh, hey, don't know if you remember me but we'll explain everything later. Keep your head down while we deal with those guys, alright?" he reached for his belt and pulled out another Pokeball, summoning his Houndour.
"Alright, Lucille, time for a figh-"
"Noct." Khezu turned around and found himself face to face with a Noctowl. The big, brown bird glared at him, slightly startling the boy.
"What the hell?!" he stared at the bird trying to figure out what the hell was happening. In a sudden moment of realization he remember the briefing and he accompanying Pokeball from that morning. Fumbling through his belt yet again, he pulled out his last, still in use Pokeball and called his actual Houndour.
"Okay, okay, you there, watch the lady, alright?" the Noctowl replied with the same red glare. "Fine then, you come with me. Lucille, watch her." same reaction from the bird.
"Aw, to hell with it." he signaled his partner that he was ready. All they had to do now was to wait for the Magmas to fall for their trap.
Her heart beating wildly as she ran, Regan's eyes continually darted back and forth, desperately searching for a means of escape. Chancing a glance over her shoulder, she felt a sharp stab of fear as the two men pursued her at a rather casual jog. Perhaps chasing a woman older than them was no more than child's play, which was why they took such a sadistic pleasure in stalking her down.
"Dr. Chamuel! This way please!"
A young man burst out from nowhere, and Regan's mind burst with a million questions. She didn't recognize the man, but he was in street clothes. Perhaps he knew her from Noverus? Perhaps she'd treated him once before, but her recall on patients' names, faces and conditions had always been excellent. Perhaps he, too, was a Rebel? She hadn't seen him, but due to the clandestine nature of her organization, perhaps she hadn't yet met him. Then there was always the fearsome possibility that he was simply part of this Magma trap.
Before she could continue on her line of questioning, the man grabbed her and led her into an alleyway, which, to Regan, spelled certain doom. He'd led her into an enclosed space, but then yelled something about an illusion. Without warning, he very rudely manhandled her into a hiding position. Despite her vocal protests and attempts to glare him into tiny pieces, he pushed her into a seat in the rather sketchy alleyway. His barked order at him was met with the most imperious glare she could muster, but she did nothing to go against his command; at this point, perhaps her life depended on it.
As he moved back to the mouth of the alley, Regan figured he would make some sort of stand against the Magmas, but instead opted to clamber up to a balcony.
Then, as soon as the one boy had disappeared upwards, another appeared next to her, having dropped down from somewhere hidden there. She peered curiously at him, considering he said something about remembering him. His face seemed familiar, but she couldn't register as to where they had met. He summoned a Noctowl (albeit he seemed confused that he'd done so), and ordered the large owl to guard her before running off.
After a brief pause to catch her breath, she looked down at Uri in her arms. The little creature looked up at her, concerned, but still breathing heavily.
"I'm sorry, Uri, I forgot to recall you. I'm still not yet used to being a trainer." She tapped the Minccino with her pokeball, resummoning it back into her home.
Meanwhile, the two Magma grunts stood at the mouth of the alleyway, hands akimbo as they stared down at alleyway that Regan had run in to. There was now a wall there that the Magma Elite eyed suspiciously; this was his territory and he didn't remember there ever being a wall there.
"Ria. J'zargo. Divide and Conquer." The Sneasel and Persian that had trotted up next to him vanished around the sides of the building, disappearing from the line of sight of anyone in the alley. "Vorstag" he tossed a pokeball into the alleyway, almost as a means of testing it for a trap. After the bright flash of light illuminated the alleyway, a ferocious looking Ursaring. "Illia" the man revealed yet another pokemon; a Yamask. The ghost pokemon floated at the edge of the alley, looking around for any signs of life.
"Ominous Wind"
The ghastly energy swept through the alleyway, passing harmlessly through Vorstag the Ursaring, and fortunately through Khezu's Noctowl. But in the tight space, the ghostly attack filled the passageway entirely. The Elite was hoping to flush out the attackers into the embrace of his Ursaring. However, he squinted closely, watching the path of the ghost attack...and he watched it pass through the suspicious wall. Not entirely sure what to make of it, he figured it warranted investigation later, but for now, his objective was to capture his prey.
Silence filled the alleyway but the tension kept rising. The ghost's attack was relatively harmless, only affecting Lucille to a small extent but the dog quickly shrugged it off due to her natural resistance to ghost-types. Despite all this, the Magma agents still had an Ursaring and a ghost on their side of the field, along with two more Pokemon roaming around. And as if that wasn't enough Khezu knew next to nothing about his new team addition. The illusion was also starting to get weaker, mostly from the sustained damage but also from its creator's fatigue.
"We need to act quick if we want to catch them by surprise. Should probably focus on the ghost guy for now, wouldn't want to try messing with an Ursaring while that guy's still around to annoy us." a simple strategy. Focusing the smaller threats to deal with the larger ones later. The problem being, of course, Khezu not knowing if his newly acquired Noctowl could even hit the darn thing.
He could. And he would.
The owl's eyes began to glow in a eerie red, mimicking the Yamask's gaze. The glow quickly spread to his wings and the bird began flapping. As the wind grew stronger the ghost began to feel the effects of his own attack, turned and used against it. It passed once more through the Ursaring without harming it but the damage was done to the intended target.
"Okay, consider me interested. Can you finish it off now?" the young man asked the Noctowl, only to be faced with the same prideful gaze from moments ago. Taking advantage of the confusion between the Magma officers, the Noctowl took up to the skies and began his next attack. The feathers covering his face and his wings began to glow once more, this time flaring up with pure energy. Khezu waited for the attack but the owl remained stationary, still brimming with energy.
"Oh, for the love of- Lucille, with me!" the command was soon followed by a whistle. From above, in the rooftops, his companion's ears flickered as the Aipom recognized the signal. Jumping from balcony to balcony, the monkey made his way down to a safer position and tossed the Pokeball he had with him. Back down in the alleyway, the Pokeball fell behind the Magmas and burst open, summoning the massive stone beast from within and blocking any attempts of escape from the opposing side. The Aipom descended his way into the Rhyhorn's back and stood there, waiting for further orders. Back on Khezu's side, Lucille followed the Aipom's attitude while the Noctowl still remained in place, charging whatever attack he was going to use.
"The bird's vulnerable and I don't know what the hell he's even doing. Guess we'll have to keep them busy while it does its thing." but he knew they wouldn't hold up against an Ursaring and the roaming Pokemon. Not alone.
"We can't deal with them alone, doc. Can you battle?"
He should've seen it coming, of all stupid things he could do, out of every possible thing he could've done wrong he HAD to make THAT decision, one so wrong it was even to obvious for words. But he had made it and realized it too late and he would bear the consequences of it, though he would've gladly done it again. So strong is his love for his partners, strong enough to take on any foe even if it meant sacrificing his own life by doing so, nothing would've been too hard. But there were other ways, ways he should've found if he hadn't done that one thing he despised the most. No observation, too focused on one thing made one clueless about his surroundings, makes one lose focus for the events that were still to come... he hated it. And still Zephyros had done it. Yes, he would hate himself, but now he had to utilise his concentration. Sorrow would come later.
When seeing the pokémon perform the attack into the so-called alley, just an illusion of his little pal Zorua. But the attack seemed fuelled with such power that Zorua wouldn't be able to keep up the illusion, and if this would turn out to be a worst case scenario he would get a great deal of dame too. Zephyros glanced down and saw the Ursaring, grand and strong, you could easily see that this Ursaring had endured far more than any other pokémon he’d seen since now. Surely it would wipe away Zorua like a cloth without putting up a proper fight.
His imagination took a run with him as he saw his Zorua getting bashed by one of those mighty claws and he trembled. ”No…” Flash looked at his master with a worried face, knowing Zephyr was having some bad thoughts.
“Oshawott! Osha!”
Zephyr shrug his head and looked up to the sudden noise. He saw Flash staring at him with a stern look and managed a smile, of course not. He knew the Oshawott always kept his cool and now it was trying to get him back on track, he had to keep his mind in the game. He glanced yet again over the edge of the balcony and saw the Ursaring sniffing. The wind blew in his face and he froze. ”Shit!” The wind had took a sudden turn and their scent managed to be caught by the Ursaring, and it was about to spoil their surprise-attack if it looked up. Without thinking he jumped down towards the Ursaring and kicked it right in the face. He landed on the ground quite clumsy as he tried to dodge an incoming attack. Well he did dodge the attack, but was then sent flying while an excruciating pain stung through his chest.
The Ursaring had smacked it’s mighty paw up in the air and had hit him straight above stomach, now he was sent flying towards the wall above the container after which he had said Regan to hide. He bumped his head quite badly as he hit the wall and fell face-down unto the dumpster. A loud *BANG* echoed through the alley and his head felt like it could explode. He crawled on his knees and shouted something that sounded like “Fla-Arghl” as he spit up blood on the dumpster. He grabbed his stomach in pain and bent over, blood running down his lips. As he looked to the Ursaring it was just about to get hit by the biggest Water Gun Flash had ever produced.
Ursaring stumbled back a little and got hit by a black ball of shades, in the shades Zorua kept hitting the Ursaring countless times with it’s Pursuit-attack. Oshawott wagged it’s tail and sent small transparent strings towards the Ursaring to lower it’s defence with Tail Whip. Their master was nearly unconscious and yet he still tried to get up… Flash once again charged in and used tackle, followed by a fully-charged Water Gun.
Regan let out an uncharacteristic shriek as the Ominous Wind attack ripped through the alleyway. The Noctowl guarding her seemed quite unphased by the attack, which came as a note of confusion to the good doctor. Noctowl was of the flying type, but was unaffected by the ghost attack?
It simply didn't make sense, as only normal types were immune to ghost attacks. Perhaps the owl had some sort of special ability? Admittedly, her mind was not suited for that sort of tactical analysis, especially when she was hiding, scared, in a corner of a dank alleyway.
The joining of the battle confirmed that the two limber teenagers. Surely no Magma agent could come up with that sort of double bluff just to capture a woman that they could've easily chased down and nabbed. Such an elaborate scheme, while flattering, seemed utterly unnecesary. Regan had never proven to be some monstrous combatant that required such levels of clever ploy; even the simplest grunt could easily have overpowered her in a battle.
The most flabbergasting question of all emanated from the 'familiar' boy. "Can you battle?"
A heavy, crushing weight suddenly started pressing down on Regan's chest; her last attempt at battling the Magma Elite had ended in the swift and effortless defeat of her pokemon. Though, above her, her Noctowl Guardian waited, glowing with energy. The familiar boy had rallied a houndour, as well as a much more familiar looking Aipom/Rhyhorn
combo. Her memory flashed to the last time she was in an alleyway, wherein the boy had used the exact same combination.
The other boy had chosen to tackle the now surrounded Ursaring. It was not only the 'tackle' that meant he was now dealing with the circumstance that seemed greater than him, but also the kind that meant he was hurling himself bodily at a fearsome bear-beast. The heavy claw slamming into this other teen's chest caused Regan to wince visibly. Such a blow could easily result in a broken rib or two. The impact with the building could've resulted in a concussion. Regan had treated many a teenaged patient who still carried around the notion of invincibility, so she rushed over towards Zephyr.
His Pokemon attacked the Ursaring with a surprising fury, bringing the big beast to his knee momentarily. As he rose back up, he unleashed a stentorian roar into the alley, accepting the challenge of the fleet of smaller pokemon. Sizing up the little fox and otter that faced him, he glared haughtily down at them, despite the damage he'd received. As he'd received a flurry of attacks, he'd unleash one of his own in the form of Fury Swipes. With speed surprising of such a great beast, the Ursaring hurled himself at the two assailing Pokemon, lashing out at them repeatedly with his terrifying claws.
Meanwhile, now blocked in by a rock rhinoceros and a monkey, the two Magma members galvanized themselves into action.
"J'Zargo, Faint Attack!" The Magma Elite snapped his fingers, seemingly unperturbed that the ambush had sprung up around him. He hadn't sent his two Pokemon away from the battle as a retreat, but as a means of keeping the ambush from pinning them in. His Persian appeared almost from nowhere, landing daintily atop the Rhyhorn, Tank. The cat-pokemon slashed out at the Aipom.
"C'mon Tyrogue!" The other Magma member finally summoned his own Pokemon to the field. "Mach Punch on Rhyhorn!"
The Tyrogue threw himself bodily forward, punching out at Tank with great speed. Despite the super-effectiveness of the attack, the attack seemed to do very little overall.
With the battle erupting all over, Regan figured that she had to now do her part to help out as well. "Sophie!" Reaching into her purse, she pulled out another Pokeball, enlargening and opening it in her hand.
Her old friend Sophie appeared on the field, standing in the midst of the battle in all of her Togepi-like glory (which was to say, more cute than glorious). Once Sophie appeared on the field, Regan had no idea how to contribute to the battle. Togepi, though nearly as old as Regan herself, still appeared to be a baby like Pokemon.
"Ria, Icy Wind!" The Magma elite stepped back into action once more, snapping his fingers at pointing at the glowing Noctowl up in the air above the alley. On the rooftop, the Sneasel from earlier appeared and launched a blast of frigid air from her mouth.
"Sophie! Use Follow Me!" Regan ordered on instinct. Her outrageous pragmatism carried over into the battle, and her instincts realized that the Noctowl would be much better suited for the fight that her little Sophie would.
Sophie nodded, raising her 'arms' into the air and waving them back and forth. As she did so, the Icy Wind attack detoured away from Khezu's Noctowl and directly downwards at Sophie.
Regan winced as her old friend cried out in pain. No part of her was used to seeing her companions injured repeatedly, but it was yet another sacrifice the former doctor had to make in the fight for freedom for her city.
Without warning, the Tyrogue flashed through the air, landing a solid Mach Punch on Sophie. Sophie didn't quite have the sturdiness that Tank possessed, and flew back through the air from the impact.
"Sophie!" Regan's voice ripped involuntarily from her throat, watching her companions suffering again and again. This was supposed to be a mission to get medicine, and here she was embroiled in a battle.
The Togepi bounced back up, trilling cheerfully, despite the intensity of the battle and the attacks that she had already received. She waved her little arms once more, sending out a wave of psychic energy aimed at the Tyrogue.
Before it could hit, the Sneasel dropped from the air in front of her companion, the psychic energy stopping abruptly in front of her.
"I'm sorry." Regan turned to Khezu, frowning, "I'm afraid I'm not much help."
Seeing the turn of events, being the Ursaring violently attacking his Zorua and Oshawott and the sudden fightingspirit that rose from Dr. Regan made him numb. He had been stupid and their chances of getting out without too much damage were already below average, his actions could eventually lead to their defeat and worse... the failure of his very first mission. Letting his best friend down... he couldn't bear the thoughts and when seeing his partners being violently swung left and right by the Ursaring's Fury Swipes.
Alhough they were gravely injured they managed to get back up and both seemed more determined then ever to defend him and the others. He had trained them that way, he wasn't really surprised by their actions, rather by their determination and their steadfast mentality.
Dr. Regan had decided to take out an white little oddball inside the scales of an egg; Togepi, as Zephyr realized. Quite a rare pokémon in these regions. It seemed as if the professor's fighting spirit had had a small boast as she ordered her Togepi ,apparently named Sophie, to use Follow Me. The sneasel of the Magma rushed forward and used an Icy Wind on Sophie. It happily bounced back up however, as it was not even hit that badly, when Regan called her name.
It wiggled it's arms and sent a wave of psychic energy towards the magma's Tyrogue, the sneasel however decided to interrupt the attack by jumping in front of it. The wave just vanished without leaving any damage. Zephyr's eyes widdened for a second, did the Togepi use a Psychic Attack? That would at least explain why it had dealt no damage to a dark-type like the sneasel.
Turning towards Dr. Regan made him shrink into a heap of misery really, the pain in his chest was unbearable but he couldn't let them handle it alone. He slowly slid of the dumpster and leaned against the side to get some grip. Holding his chest he shouted his pokémon to get back to him. Flash took in another blow from Ursaring but kept on it's feet, it turned towards Zephyr and he saw Flash's eyes sparkling before it turned back around.
Flash curled up a little, as if it was in pain. It had taken serious damage and one more hit would probably KO him. Flash got engulfed with a blueish waterlike aura and it shot fire as it stood back up and tensed up. It flung it's head back and it's cheeks filled as the Zorua nodded towards Flash. Zorua dashed towards the Ursaring and miraculously dodged all of them, Flash followed right behind it and when Zorua jumped up so did Flash, then making a double jump on Zorua's back before sprouting the Water Gun in the Ursaring's face. Both were lung back through the alley as the water gun hit, the Ursaring had attacked them at the same time. Zephyr flinched.
"No!" he stumbled towards them but fell down again, seeming he couldn't really walk straight thanks to his injuries. "damn it"
The ursaring seemed to trip, as it wagged back and forth softly. It fell to it's knees and bashed the ground with it's claws to stay up, it's facial expressions showed a painfull grin.
Flash fainted after hitting the ground and Zorua almost did so too, but it stayed down quietly. Zephyr couldn't utter a small gasp and tried getting back up, in vain, he only managed to get up to his knees. Slowly taking a pokéball from his pocket he touched it to grow and a red beam engulfed Flash, a second later it was in safety, resting in the pokéball. "You did great today"
"Dr. Regan..." he said softly "Your Togepi... Knows Yawn right? Try it to slow them down... if the sneasel sleeps you can take out the Tyrogue with that move you just used..."
His words were a mere whisper at the end, he tried to keep awake, his environment slowly becoming blurred.
My body...
is made out of swords.
Iron is my blood
and glass is my heart.
I have overcome countless battlefields undefeated.
Not once have I retreated,
Nor once have I been understood.
Always alone....
On the hill of swords...
intoxicated by victory...
Thus, this life has no meaning...
This body...surely was...
Made out of blades.
The alleyway was soon engulfed in an all out war. Pokemon attacking from all sides and everything was going to hell real fast. More so when his partner flung himself towards the Ursaring for whatever dumb reason. Now the hulking beast that Khezu was trying to keep under control was tearing everything and everyone into shreds, most specifically his partner's Pokemon. As if that wasn't enough, his Aipom was under attack by a goddamn Persian and a Sneasel was breaking apart they're offensive. This was not going well. At all.
"Are you trying to get yourself killed?!" Khezu turned to his partner, clearly not expecting an answer taking in account his state. He did, however, want to get his message through. "Your Pokemon are a heck of a lot more resilient than you think, trust me." he spoke from experience too. His Rhyhorn, while extremely weak to Grass-type moves, could take a Razor Leaf better than Khezu ever did.
"And now you! Are you actually gonna do anything useful? We're not working with a whole lot of time, in case you didn't notice!" he faced the Noctowl this time who was still not moving. Shortly after Khezu's notice, though, something happened. The glow extended to cover his full body, eyes flaming with with sheer power. With a loud shriek, the bird lunged forward at an amazing speed, leaving a blazing trail behind him. Should anything stand in the way of that without any protective barriers? It would surely ruin their day. And that poor fool was Tyrogue. The Noctowl set his sights on the prey and slammed the Fighting-type with no mercy, taking him in his path without any significant slowdown in speed. The owl made a sudden stop and flew upwards and the glow dissipated as the Tyrogue kept the forward momentum, eventually being stopped by one of the walls. Should the humanoid-like Pokemon withstand such blow and still be able to fight, Khezu would have been impressed. The move was extremely powerful and the Noctowl only looked slightly tired but the preparation to execute it was long enough to expose the user for a considerable amount of time.
"Okay, that was pretty damn cool." but the Noctowl wasn't done. Spreading his wings open, he covered all his allies in a protective cloak, including Regan's Togepi and, still surprisingly conscious, Zephyr's Zorua. Reflect had been set up which would make the Ursaring, Sneasel, Persian and possibly Tyrogue's moves less painful. Khezu was slightly annoyed that the bird hadn't used the move earlier but better late than never.
"Don't worry too much about fighting, doc. Just watch over my partner there and keep supporting with your Togepi. Lucille, see that Sneasel? Seek 'em, girl." the pup seemed to smirk for a second before her mouth became engulfed in flames. The Houndour charged up towards the Sneasel and began spewing embers everywhere in hopes of hitting the nimble foe.
On the other side of the alley things began to even out as Reflect came into play. The Persian traded hits left and right with Khezu's Aipom. Both fought on the Rhyhorn's back, the latter being extremely annoyed about the fact that it could do nothing other than trying to knock the cat off his stone plates. One thing that Khezu noted, though, was that Slinger Shot was beginning to get faster and more agile and the battle progressed. At this point, no more attacks were coming from the monkey. The damage done before the protective barrier was set in place still lingered and the Aipom was getting tired but surprisingly more agile, eventually tapping Tank with the hand of his tail before retreating back to the roofs. This was not just a simple switch, however. All the speed the Aipom had gathered from the battle was passed on to the rock beast, coating the rhino with new found reflexes to deal with the Persian. Agility had taken place and the Rhyhorn was now faster than ever.
"We need to take out that Persian so that Tank can deal with the Ursaring. He's the only one who stands a chance against that thing's attacks."
Regan knelt down next to Zephyr, who rested on his knees on the floor of the grimy alley.
"You can't fall asleep; you may have a concussion." Regan chided him softly as he tried to give her battle commands. She immediately began probing his head, looking for any gashes or bruises that she could tend to with her first aid kid. She ignored Zephyr as he weakly attempted to give her tactical advice. At this juncture, her most important task was to tend to the idiot boy who had bodily assaulted a bear.
She had been doing this quite often since she joined the rebellion. It seemed every teenager in Noverus possessed the same suicidal hero streak, which seemed utterly fascinating considering that they all possessed very durable pokemon. The familiar boy seemed all to eager to mention this to his fallen comrade.
The battle continued to erupt around her. The Noctowl had rejoined the fight with a brilliant display, instantly taking out the weaker Tyrogue. The Magma grunt recalled his Pokemon, appearing to not possess any further means of combat at his disposal. The battle had now turned into a three-on-one, though the Elite himself seemed unperturbed, even as he recalled Vorstag the Ursaring from the field.
He surveyed the scene, unmoving, outwardly possessing no tension whatsoever as the battle shifted back in favour of the two random teenagers who had interrupted his hunt. Vorstag, his Ursaring, was nearly out. But he still had three fully functional Pokemon in the alley against a wounded Zorua, a Houndour, a Rhyhorn, and a Togepi. He didn't seem all that concerned.
Even though the Rhyhorn had gained a newfound boost in speed, he didn't feel quite alarmed, considering the Rhyhorn's potentially slow turn-radius. The only way for 'Tank' to inflict damage was the charge, and he was sure that the particular order would not come through, considering the field position.
"Ria, Agility. J'Zargo, Iron Tail. Illia, Will-O-Wisp"
As Ria, the Sneasel, found herself chased down by the ember-attacks from Lucille, she focused in on herself, boosting her speed with her 'agility' technique, the same that Double S had used. J'Zargo the Persian, meanwhile, lashed out with his tail, now glowing with a steely aura, aimed at the Rhyhorn's face.
The largely forgotten Illia had remained by her trainer's side, awaiting orders. As soon as she heard one, she floated towards Tank, who appeared to be the biggest threat to their mission. Once J'Zargo cleared away from his attack, she unleashed a small flurry of purple flames, hoping to cause a burn on the enemy Pokemon.
"Follow me!" Regan snapped her attention back to the battle. Once the Agility and Iron Tail had taken place, the little purple flames floated lazily over to Sophie, who had summoned them to herself. Feeling the instant effect of the burn, little Sophie shuddered in pain, looking up to Regan determinedly.
"Psycho Shift."
With merely a psychic suggestion, the burn seemed to fade from Sophie's body, and suddenly Ria, the Sneasel, appeared to be suffering from burns.
"I'll support you as best I can. Please, dispose of him." Even despite kneeling on the floor next to a teenager who seemed to be drifting towards unconsciousness, Regan still took a short moment to glare imperiously at the thugs who had assaulted her. Even though she remained suspicious of the two boys who had shown up to help her, potentially out of some insane altruism, Regan prepared for the fact that they were, in fact, allies. She could support them as hard as she could, but they were enduring the brunt of the battle, and at least Khezu seemed to be holding strong.
Aya's Pokemon
The air was still and quiet--it was an ideal night for Aya and her Pokemon. The tall brunette held onto the belt on her hips as she trekked up the hill speckled sparsely with grass. Rock and sand crumbled under her sneakers as she neared the edge of Noverus, away from the watchful eyes of Magma grunts. Aya flicked her off-green eyes around the scene before settling on a flat, rocky place at the base of Noverus's mountains. With a short nod she unclipped a Poke ball from her belt and depressed the button on the front opening until it made a light 'click'. A stream of light hit the ground and allowed a shape to materialize--a Pokemon curled up on the ground. It stood up, its black, rounded ears perked forward. With a bark, the orange puppy-like Pokemon greeted his mistress. He knew this place well; he recognized all the familiar smells of his Pokemon teammates and his Trainer. Aya crouched down to it, reaching her hand around to weave her fingers through the fluffy ruff between his ears.
"Okay, boy, we're gonna try again tonight, okay?" She murmured. The brown-eyed dog's jaw parted and he leaned forward, slathering Aya in slobbery puppy-kisses. The Trainer giggled and kissed his forehead before standing up again. "All right, like we practiced... think fiery thoughts!"
The growlithe barked and crouched down, focusing on summoning his natural power. Iganis always had trouble when gaining experience in battle and had a hard time figuring out how to use his inner fire; he was Aya's weakest Pokemon, even though she'd spent the most time trying to train him. She knew that he was tough, though, and could sense that he would someday be a very powerful Pokemon if he'd only focus. Speaking of which...
"Iggy... come on, now, pay attention," she chided gently. The dog took his eyes off of a fluttering moth and looked up at his Trainer, flattening his ears apologetically.
"It's all right. Now, breathe deep..." the growlithe closed his eyes and sucked in a huge lungful of air, concentrating. Aya kept still and silent as possible, allowing her Pokemon to think... Minutes ticked by, and nothing happened. Aya was beginning to sag a bit in slight disappointment for Iganis, knowing how frustrated he'd be with himself, when he moved ever so slightly. His mouth was closed, but the young woman could see the growlithe's nostrils glow a bit, as if fire was behind them, and as she watched, two tendrils of smoke snaked into the air. She cheered silently--this was a breakthrough for the little dog. With a cough, he opened his eyes--and a tiny wisp of flame came from his parted jaws. It was highly insignificant, but it was definitely something. Aya whooped and reached down, wrapping the dog in a hug.
"Good job, that's great! You made real fire!" she praised. Iggy's tail wagged joyously back and forth. Their moment was interrupted, however, when a sudden chilling sensation sobered them instantly. Aya was reminded of the strange saying that she'd heard her father use once--like someone had walked across her grave. She rose from her crouch, holding Iggy in her arms. He was growling, a low, rumbling noise that had no break. Something was very wrong. She could see his nose working to figure out was was happening.
They edged downhill slowly, looking at the faraway buildings. The alleyways were faintly visible from this far, but sure enough, one of them was obscured by a misty, eerie fog. Curious but wary, Aya made her way slowly down the craggy hill and let Iggy down.
"Stay close," she warned him. "And don't rush head-on if we meet anyone." The dog huffed but seemed to affirm that he would listen to her instructions, despite his misgivings. Iganis had a bad habit of rushing head-first into battle, which ended up with him losing a lot of them. The pair came to a jog and got to the city's edge. Aya climbed over the railing that separated the city from the wilderness, looking both ways before crossing the street before the first buildings. She read the signs of familiar businesses--many of which had closed down twenty years ago--and followed the path she knew well to the alleyway she'd just seen from uphill. She wanted to know what was going on... it was probably something to do with Team Magma.
The thought of them and their insufferable leader left a sour taste in her mouth. Knowing what they did to her father... she grit her teeth in silent anger but repressed the rage that threatened to come with it. She needed to keep a cool head and analyze the situation first. Maybe it was nothing at all. Maybe the fog was from a spazzed-out koffing or something... But something told her it was more than that.
She finally came to the edge of the mist that was slowly starting to clear. Aya heard shouts--people barking orders out to Pokemon. So, it was a battle... and it didn't sound like a friendly spar. She narrowed her eyes. Looking down at the growling Iggy, she put a slender finger to her lips, signalling for silence. He stopped reluctantly and stayed by Aya's feet, trembling with pent-up energy. Aya patted her Poke ball and his ears drooped, knowing what it meant. Aya couldn't afford to spend time apologizing at the moment, though, so Iganis was returned without a word. She didn't want him getting hurt by his own brash behavior. The brunette put her back to the brick wall, probably dirtying her white top, but she didn't really care at the moment. She edged over slowly... and glanced around the corner.
There were definitely signs of battle here. Debris was scattered about and there were odd marks on some of the walls, as if strong attacks had hit them. She looked a bit farther around, and almost growled in the same way Iggy had. A sneasel, facing off with a little togepi, among other Pokemon battling. She saw the Magma grunt ordering his Pokemon, as well as two figures at the end of the alley--one looked to be a woman, the other, a slumped over kid. Aya looked for another few seconds before ducking behind the corner again. The battle seemed to be evenly matched, both Trainers equally eager to win... Aya hoped that the Magma grunt lost. There really was no way she could do much of anything in this position... if she tried to attack, she would surely lose, and if she drew attention to herself, there weren't many places she could run to... but she had to help somehow. She examined her surroundings. Surely her environment could help--ah. An escape ladder. It would be tough for people to reach, but Aya was always training her own body as well as her Pokemons'.
Quietly she ran to the ladder and jumped to grab the rungs that were just out of reach. Her hands scrabbled to grab the last rung. Gritting her teeth, Aya slowly pulled her own body weight up enough that she could hop up one rung with just her upper body strength. It was a good thing she was so light... it was taking a lot of her strength to pull what little body weight she had now. A few more times, each hop up more excruciating than the last, Aya made it high enough to get her feet on the bottom rung. She got up the escape ladder and onto the metal platform. The sounds of battle were still loud; she could hear them nearby, still going at it. With a yank at the ladder she'd just climbed, she unhooked it from its hold, held it over the concrete ground below, held her breath... and let go. Immediately after releasing it, she rushed the rest of the way up until the got to the top of the building. The metal clanged deafeningly against the ground.
The top of the building was mostly flat, with a door that led to the downstairs directly in the middle for emergent situations. Aya hid behind the prominence, breath coming in pants. She stayed wary, watching below to see what would happen. Hopefully that would buy the togepi time--anyone who battled Magma was automatically an ally in Aya's eyes, though she wondered who the two people in the alley were...
The tide soon turned against the Magmas. The Ursaring was gone and the Sneasel was burned, immediately removing both of Khezu's biggest concerns. Behind his opponents, however, Tank was being repeatedly slammed by the Persian left and right. The Iron Tail kept hitting the Rhyhorn right on his face, cracks appearing in the rock plates and the attack connected. This was pretty bad.
For everybody, that is. Tank wasn't exactly the most tolerable Pokemon and the repeated blows weren't improving his mood. Anger grew with each strike until the Rhyhorn simply snapped.
"Doc. Back off." the teenager warned Regan as the Rhyhorn began smashing his body against the alley walls in hopes of crushing the Persian. Bricks and chunks of cement began falling from the walls and breaking apart on the rhino's body. Tank had suffered a fair bit of damage but he still kept going, hurting himself more than the Persian he was so furiously trying to hit. Fire burst from his mouth - not unlike Lucille's Ember - as it began to try and bite the Persian's tail. Worst of all, he was going berserk right next to his Pokeball. One battlefield away from its respective trainer.
"...Shit." Khezu muttered as he realized this. It was too close to the trashing for his injured Aipom to try and get it. However, something sprang up in his mind and he directed his orders to Lucille instead.
"Alright, Lucille, just like we practiced." the pup tilted her head in confusion before realizing what the boy meant. Replying with a bark, the Houndour turned to face the hulking Rhyhorn before releasing a loud Roar towards him. It was enough to force the Rhyhorn back into his Pokeball and gave Double S enough time to snag it from the ground. Now with two Pokemon out of the battle, it turned back into an even three versus three.
"Hey, think you can do that stealing thing on the ghost again? Burn the Persian." the Noctowl nodded and harvested the Yamask's move again. A wisp of fire formed from the bird and it lazily floated towards the Persian, only to dissipate mid way. The Noctowl was clearly upset at his inability to replicate the move to its fullest.
"...Nice try. Just, I dunno, attack the ghost or something. Don't bother with flashy stuff, we don't have the time." and so the Noctowl went forward with his most basic attacks, most notably Peck. The bird was starting to get tired as well, and it showed in his annoyed glare.
"Lucille. Persian. Take it by surprise." Khezu himself was starting to get sick of the battle. He could only focus two Pokemon at a time and the Togepi wasn't a dedicated fight, leaving one of theirs to prey on whoever it chose. This turn would be the Sneasel who had thankfully been burned. Lucille's next move, however, kept her well hidden in the shadows of her a black, poisoned cloud so if the Sneasel did go after her it would most likely have a hard time hunting her down.
It was only a matter of time before either side fell. And Khezu sure as hell wouldn't go down without a decent fight.
