So yeah. Basically this thread is Exactly What It Says on the Tin.

For my Emerald file, I've gotten some of each of those categorizations:

Funny: ProtonJane (Plusle, Female); was nicknamed after a prominent LPer on YouTube, but had to slightly change the last part to a female name to reflect gender, Molly (Vigoroth, Female); nicknamed after my lazy pet cat.

Cool: Vibra (Vibrava, Female); nicknamed after a Catalan dragon in mythology, Absolution (Absol, Female); used a probable derivation of the species name, EpsiDraco (Altaria, Female); named after the star Epsilon Draconis in the constellation Draco; also serves as a roundabout reference to its original Japanese name of Tyltalis, Electron (Minun; Female); meant to be a counterpart to PJ (mentioned earlier); Ziz-Sekwi (Rayquaza; genderless but referred to using male pronouns); a double religo-mythological reference to the Hebrew master of the skies, Ziz with an alternate name (Sekwi, lit. 'the seer') for the same creature attached to the name by a hyphen.

Just plain random: Nosferati (Golbat; Female); Come on, do I really need to explain this one? Eh, might as well. It's a vampire reference and I'm too to use something cliché like Dracula (which really means something along 'son of the Devil'/'son of the dragon'); Rafflesia (Oddish; Male): The flower that Vileplume is based upon, which is a really malodorous species that flourishes in jungles known as Rafflesia arnoldii, Hanahime (Oddish; Female): From the Japanese words 花 hana (lit: 'flower') and hime (lit: 'princess').

EDIT: This one would go under the 'Cool nicknames' category: Aonuma (Swampert; Male): Named after Eiji Aonuma, of Zelda fame. Just 'cause I could.

EDIT 2: One for the JPR category: Pumbloom (Whismur; Female): After that famous Game Grumps line.
