Their are ways to know what cards are real and what are not.
Here are a few ways to tell them apart. Printing-A real Pokemon card has bold letters, if the card you got has lighter text then its fake. Anime Shown-The TCG will NEVER show any Anime-specific characters, only game characters, if you find a box with Ash or anyone from the Anime on it, the cards inside are fake. Note that the 12th movie promo's do not count, rely on other details to see if its fake. Misprint-Its pretty obvious to tell a fake card from misprint, if you see one its fake. Note that some older cards have Missprints. Back of card-If the back of Up-to-date cards are a different shade than a real card, it might be fake, that or wearing off. Misscolor-If a card is colored weirdly, it is fake. EVOLUTION IMAGES-Big one their, if the evolution is wtong its obviously fake. This is REALLY common. Texture-Normal cards feel smooth, if the texture feels a tiny bit rougher, its either fake or VERY old. Copyright errors-If a card has a stupid copyright on it, its fake. Energy orbs-If an Energy orb has a strange look to it, the card is fake. Older cards might have this. Thickness-If you can see light through the card, its fake. Holographics-If a Holographic cards patterns are differently shaded, its fake. Im sure others have idea's, anyone else know a way to tell fake cards? No. Brock is a gym leader in the games, too.

Thanks, I'll be sure to look out for these cards. I know a few people who have cards, and some of them look fake, so I'll look at their cards and see if they are fake.

Anime Shown-The TCG will NEVER show any Anime-specific characters, only game characters, if you find a box with Ash or brock on it, the cards inside are fake. Exeption - It's been already stated, but Brock is a Gym Leader in the game as well. So you can see a couple of Brock and Misty cards. a better way to rephrase that would be to simply omit Brock in your post as he isn't an anime specific character. Misprint-Its pretty obvious to tell a fake card from misprint, if you see one its fake. Exception - Not all misprints are fake, WotC and Nintendo both have had their fare share of misprinted cards that have come out. It was even more common with WotC, though, such as the stage 2 Rapidash and wrong art Jungle 1st edition Electrode. YOu should be able to find a list of all the official misprints so you can know which misprinted ones are in fact real. Misscolor-If a card is colored weirdly, it is fake. Exception - some of the earlier released Base set cards were a tinge darker then the later released Base set cards. Energy orbs-If an Energy orb has a strange look to it, the card is fake. Exception - Sideways Fist Base-set Diglett (WotC Misprint on some of the first edition cards of that set) Anyways, there are 2 more ways to tell real from fake, though. Thickness - Hold the card up to a strong light (Works best when it's just an inch away from a lightbulb), usually the fake ones are make of a thinner sort of paper so you can mostly see part of the image that is on the other side as opposed to the real ones that are whole opaque. Holographic - Some fake cards have a different look to the holographic cards, some of which are 100% off of what they're supposed to as well.. I can't explain it well enough so I'm giving you guys a side by side comparison. (Sorry for the crappy scan, honestly, I just own the fake mewtwo because I'm in love with how it looks, even though it's fake) http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll207/p...rass/mewtwo.jpg The one on the left is the real card, while the one on the right is a fake, if you cook, you can tell that it is lacking most of the holographic in the backgrouns and instead has these shiny gold swirls on it. (It looks cooler on the card itself, since you can really see to gold color to it as opposed to the scan.) This post has been edited by Time Guardian: May 22 2010, 09:50 AM |

Anime Shown-The TCG will NEVER show any Anime-specific characters, only game characters, if you find a box with Ash or brock on it, the cards inside are fake. Another exception is the Movie Commemoration Random Pack It was a promotional series for the 12th movie. It's Japanese only, but the character's faces still appear on the appropriate cards. Basically just check the card out on a website prior to trading to see whether or not it should have the character's image or not. -------------------- Click above to go to the Party! Also, with the Japanese cards, they will almost always fail the light test, because Media Company uses thinner card stock than TPC/WotC does/did
